Nice book on communication skills. There're are some very common techniques almost everyone knows, still it's elaborated way much. That's the negative aspect that author could avoid.

wonderful

Read on how to communicate. It takes practice and the challenges help. The end of the book highlights more by the author in just the right amount of detail to pick up all of them, or give as gifts. Very well written.

A few good tips in here but just way too pc for me. I love all people and respect their right to their own beliefs, but I'm so tired of the gender-neutral word police. Incidentally, if someone refused to refer to me as "she", I would not only be offended, but feel like a total failure as a woman. I'm not looking to start an argument, but if we're going to be fair to everyone then it bears saying that eliminating gender pronouns isn't necessarily always kind, and may even be insulting. Surely we can still be respectful without this foolishness, and I fail to see how suddenly changing the very nature and rules of a language can make for more effective communication any more than suddenly changing the rules of the road would make for more effective driving. Wouldn't it be better to just try adding kind words, instead of eliminating ones that are integral to understanding one another effectively?

I am not a fan of such motivational books but i wanted to give this one a chance. There was no added value to me personally, that doesn't mean it won't be useful or appreciated by others. Give it a try maybe you'll like it

Although the other reviews on goodreads are middling for this book, don't be put off, you can still learn something.

Whilst, I have routinely been told I am a good listener, and a good communicator, I always feel like I can become a better communicator. Within my work environment, I am effective at getting my point across, authorative without being bully and giving space and time to those who need to speak. However, I still learnt a few tips when reading this incredibly short book.

The premise, is each lesson is split over 21 days, with an introduction on the topic, in some cases a situation on when to use the technique, followed by one or two activities to put into place for that day.
I didn't read it as the author intended, and instead read in two sittings. What I did do, was make notes on the days where I felt I needed to learn the lesson.

What I didn't enjoy about this book, was both a good portion of the beginning and end were adverts for the authors over work. I could of done without this padding.

Overall, I learnt something, and for me this book did what it said on the tin.

Covers the basic yet crucial aspects of communication. More like a refresher IMO and I found a few good pointers to absorb and implement. But I believe it will be handy mostly for beginners who want to practice the importance of conversational etiquette.

This book has some practical tips and advice for effective communication.

After reading this book, I realized how simple steps can make all the difference. The author has made the chapters short and crisp, conveying information the reader can easily digest. Towards the end of every chapter, there is a practice exercise where the author instructs the reader on how to put the lesson into practice.

I never knew how important vocabulary is or how putting myself down can hamper the effectiveness of my message. And I am definitely going to stop using cliches from now. The author finally made me understand why cliches don't really impact the listener.
I personally love the Day 18 lesson. And I was quick to implement it in my personal life. My satisfaction after putting this lesson to use was seen on my face, and I felt liberated after that!

This book might seem like a short read, but it is really impactful if you practice these lessons.

This book has been a game-changer for me in mastering effective communication skills. It feels like having a personal coach guiding you through social skills enhancement. I appreciate how the book is structured into a 21-day program, with each day focusing on a distinct topic. Ian Tuhovsky has crafted a concise, well-researched, and easy-to-read guide that is both memorable and practical. It has opened my eyes to numerous ways I can improve my communication and provided the necessary tools to implement these changes through specific daily practices. This is undoubtedly one of the most valuable self-help books I've come across!

Proposes daily exercises, to carry out situations that seem obvious but when put into practice allow us to discover that sometimes we are not so effective in our ways of communicating but at the same time we have simple tools that can help us achieve it.

If you've ever read any self-help books, or books on communication before, this probably isn't for you. I read this book as I acquired it for free on the Kindle Store and figured that communication is always an area in which everyone can improve. This book definitely feels more geared towards the professional sphere, although does have some generally good tips. I think it mostly covers what I would consider the basics, but would be a good starting point for anyone new to management positions and/or suffering from severe social anxiety (either personally or professionally.)

*Good in Parts*
Many of the parts can be read quickly and there are certainly good things few of the parts (days) which requires focus and concentration. Wish there were some frameworks (like Stop Think Lead - on how to handle objection, clean up the garbage etc) I am planning to write down few of these skills and refresh them once in a month to remind myself regularly.

Straight and to the point

I like the fact that Tuhovsky doesn't beat around the bush. The chapter on interrupting is the most interesting, it really struck a chord with me. Also I found the mediation content useful. Being a better listener is ultimately what I wanted from this book, but I was able to pick up some other bonuses.

It's a good book about communication skills. Probably you will not learn a lot of new skills, but you will put on practice some skills that you know that they exist but lately you haven't taken them into consideration.
Reading it is a good way to do introspection, and if you put it into practice you will get a better version of yourself.

Good for improving some basic communication swiftly

It is a nice book, certainly for its size it does deliver quite nice improvement techniques and exercises. The start of the book is quite nice but as it goes on, some topics may not be relevant for everyone - such as the mediation part towards the end.

This book is fine but did not bring much new information for me. I believe that if anybody who tries to think in a way how people work and think, will know most of the rules stated in the book. Like people usually know that interrupting somebody, being confident, writing a good email and stating the facts are good habits and will improve personal life...

Most parts are rather common sense for adults assimilated in the modern workplace. This would be more suited for young adults. My top chapter picks would be: Being an inclusive communicator, Building on a “thank you,” Listening properly, Offering a helping hand, and Swapping ‘but’ for ‘and’ & embracing ‘yet.’

A simple and quick, unpretentious read for the commute.

Good read

I liked the book. It was very straightforward, where the author made his point with examples that I can relate to, which was great. I liked the idea of the challenges at the end of each day/chapter. I would definitely recommend.

It was good information but it wasn't really any new information to me personally. It was a good refresher on communication but just barely held my attention for the less than an hour it took me to read it.

Useful!

I found this book to be useful and I will use many if not all its suggestions or recommendations. I enjoyed reading about the different generations, such as Baby Boomers, x, y, etc.

I found half of the information to be insightful or a good reminder. The other half felt like common sense or pointless to me specifically. I had some good take aways though. The concept of doing one practice a day is a good set up as well.
