This was a good book because it does two things that I love from a business book.

1. Provides niche real-world case studies that are not normally provided in popular business books.
2. It has a "lessons learned" section that summarizes the book into bite-size pieces that are far easier to review down the line.

This is good because you may want to come back to a book later on but don't necessarily want to read the whole thing again and these bookended lessons are a good way to review the material. It was a simple read, and the "voice" of the two authors was easy to understand. Not every story will be applicable to your life or your negotiation requirements but the book has so many examples that it is hard to find a scenario that won't be applicable at some stage.

A good book. 4 out of 5 stars.

I listened to the audio book and I believe the authors should have hired professional narrators.

This book is good with some good ideas especially for new people starting with negotiations.

Some ideas are tried and true and some are hokey.

I recommend this book for those wanting to learn about negotiating strategies and how to use them and combat them.

You probably already know and employ many of the 101 negotiating techniques and just don't have a name for them. The best part about bringing such techniques to your conscious awareness is that you can use them deliberately and to your advantage. I like that with each tactic the authors explain how to counter it if it's used against you.

Though most of the examples are in a business context I found the techniques adaptable to my own field in mental health. I feel more confident having some tools to negotiate whereas before reading this book I avoided business confrontations and took the initial offer.

Recommended for anyone who is uncomfortable with negotiating and looking for a confidence boost and new tools to add to your belt.

Yes, I do like to negotiate and I find that in most instances it does benefit my families needs, but not always and sometimes I can come away feeling worse or getting a raw deal. For this reason I thought to review this book. It is filled with ideas and facts presented in a way that is easy to utilize and execute.

I used this book for a quick revision of material covered years ago while doing business studies. Since then life experience has taught me of the vital foundation ethics play in win-win agreements. Including an ethical framework in future editions might be an idea …

This book has a wealth of knowledge. It is not dry or boring. It is not textbook style. I definitely recommend it. It even advises you how to get a raise at your job. Who cannot benefit from that?

I enjoyed this book, there are many out there no doubt on influence, negotiating etc, and must admit this wasnt anything new or break through, but the unique style of 101 examples and scenarios made it stick more when thinking of actual negotiating situations , so retention within the book is more and re-enforces good negotiating principles

Great Book on Negotiating!
The book "The Only Negotiating Guide You'll Ever Need" was a great book full of insights – some that were very basic and some new thought –provoking ideas. I liked the book so much I passed it along to my college-aged son for some good summer reading. Peter Stark and Jane Flaherty did an amazing job not only describing different ways to negotiate, but also gave a wealth of real life scenarios to apply these techniques: situations from buying/selling a car, negotiating a lower buying price, to negotiating for a higher wage and so much more is all covered in this book. The book discusses the importance of a win-win outcome in every negotiation and provides a wealth of ideas to help you obtain this.

A complimentary copy of this book was given to me by Blogging for Books in exchange for my fair and unbiased review.

"Make time work for you. As a rule, you will not achieve the best outcome quickly. Although there are some exceptions, you will usually be better off moving slowly and with perseverance, even if means changing your deadline" (24).

"When you become angry, you turn control over to your counterpart. Anger does not put you in a frame of mind to make the best decisions. Emotions of any kind can hinder your ability to listen effectively. Anger, especially, interferes with the problem-solving processes involved in negotiations; when you are angry, you tend to shut out your conterpart" (51).

This book need to be referenced time and again to master techniques. Overall ok, can elaborate more on personality traits of negotiating parties and their relative behaviour.
