Full disclosure, I received this book to review at no cost.
This is a very well written book. Type 2 diabetes is on the rise in our country. It hits many families and individuals across the US, including me. When I was first diagnosed, I attended classes on what I should eat, but there was no explanation as to why. The Type 2 Diabetic Cookbook and Action Plan explains everything in detail.
Chapter one starts by giving an excellent understanding of what to expect as you begin your journey as a diabetic. An explanation of healthy eating including understanding nutrients, how to read a label, and counting carbs are covered. It also covers meal planning and how to begin preparing to eat properly.
Chapter two gives you ideas on how to implement your healthy eating plan. Stocking you kitchen is well covered. What you should have on hand to maintain your diet is laid out. Pantry ideas, what to stock in your freezer and refrigerator, as well as what spices you need to boost flavors of your creations. This chapter also starts with some excellent ideas for on the fly meals.
Chapter three helps you create a three month plan to eat healthy and live well. Plans for all three meals as well as a snack are included. Also covered is how to eat out and still eat healthy.
The rest of the book is devoted to delicious recipes, including carb counts, and complete nutritional information, to help you stay on course. I recommend this book for anyone with diabetes or cooking for a diabetic.
I purchased this so that I could become more familiar about ways to cook for a friend who has been struggling with maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. I found that there was some good information here. I wish that some of the recipes had less sodium content, particularly given the comorbidity of hypertension and diabetes. The food tasted good, though, and it allowed me to demonstrate to a loved one that they are not alone in what feels like an uphill battle.
This book has lots of good advice for those trying to eat better and manage their diabetes. A bit more kale and quinoa in the recipes than I would like but there are some keepers as well.
This was my first go-to when trying to change my family's diet. The book allows a gradual change to a new way of eating by making changes and adding to them every week. Ready meal plans, recipes and even weekly shopping lists make the transition to low carb, low sugar meals much easier. Thank you to Martha McKittrick and Michelle Anderson
Very helpful for anyone who likes good healthy eating
One of the better books for simplicity and great recipes. Highly recommended for anyone including prediabetics. interesting explanations. I will read over and over.
It was ok. I think most of recipes can be lower carb but I can incorporate my almond and other TV flours but recipes were great. I will go to some of websites in back of book. Very helpful .
