Josiah Chamberlain's life's work revolves around repairing other people's marriages. When his own is threatened by his wife's unexplained distance, and then threatened further when she's unexpectedly plunged into an unending fog, Josiah finds his expertise, quick wit and clever quips are no match for a relationship that is clearly broken. Feeling betrayed, confused, and ill-equipped for a crisis this crippling, he reexamines everything he knows about the fragility of hope and the strength of his faith and love. Love seems to have failed him. Will what's left of his faith fail him, too? Or will it be the one thing that holds him together and sears through the impenetrable wall that separates them?

As some of you know, I go to great lengths to avoid spoilers. With an author's writing style I already enjoy, I seldom read book summaries nor reviews in advance of reading the novel. With A Fragile Hope, I love the cover and had previously read a Christmas novella by the author so requested a Net Galley copy of the novel with having zero idea of what the book was about. Rather quickly I found myself on an amazing emotional journey. Just as I don't like to read spoilers, I am careful not to provide them either.
What I can share about this novel is that it is about loving when it's not easy, learning to let others be a true part of your life, humility and having faith in Christ.
I loved that the author sprinkled in humor throughout. This helped lighten the dire circumstances and bring perspective. My favorite bit of humor was "my church is so conservative we can't raise our hands on a roller coaster" (paraphrased).
A Fragile Hope was a lovely journey and I look forward to reading additional novels by this talented author.
My gratitude to publisher Abingdon Press for a Net Galley copy. I was not required to post a review and the opinions expressed are my own.
This book deserves five stars for so deeply addressing the subject of marital betrayal while sprinkling in enough hope to keep me from falling into the despair the characters felt. I thought the way Cynthia opened each chapter with a greeting card sentiment was genius, and definitely shed some light between hard pieces of the story. (The greeting card sentiment was a perfect fit, since the wife in the story wrote and crafted cards for a living.) Aside from being a compelling story about characters I genuinely cared about, I'll just mention that any writer curious about what a truly deep third-person POV can be should read this book and take notes. This book is a great example, from page one.
I wish I could give this book 10 stars! This book will leave you pondering the fragility of life. There is such an important message here. Do not wait until it's too late to tell the one's you love that you love them and show them it as well, daily. You never know what tomorrow may bring, spend time with your loved ones, talk, really talk and tell them what's on your heart.Such a beautiful story I know this will be an eye opener for a lot of people. I recommend this to everyone! Publish date April 4,2017. Thank you to NetGalley and Abington Press for a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
When I started reading A Fragile Hope, I wasn't sure what to expect. Several chapters in, I was still unsure what was to come, but I saw glimpses of the heart-wrenching tale that was to commence. By the time I finished the last page, I was overwhelmed with varying emotions: devastation, hope, joy, a sense of refreshing, and a keen dose of peace that only comes with forgiveness.
There are so many things I'd like to tell you about this book, but each one would give too many things away... except this: A Fragile Hope is a groundbreaking emotional masterpiece. It's an intrinsically beautiful story about dealing with the dark trials of life.
This is one of the must-read books of 2017. Is it on your reading list yet?
I receive complimentary books from publishers, publicists, authors, and sites like Netgalley, Litfuse Publicity Group, and Blogging for Books. They do not require me to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
A Fragile Hope is an emotional, heart-stirring read. A character-driven story, this novel compelled me to keep on reading to see what would happen within the hearts and minds of these characters. Josiah Chamberlain was a character that endeared himself to me, despite what I felt was a lack of trust on his part. Josiah’s character displayed a realistic gamut of emotions and his voice is in turns wry, humorous, and conflicted. Most of all, it comes across as very real.
Despite focusing on such heavy topics – infidelity, death, and illness – I never felt bogged down with sadness as I read this story. The author added some gems of secondary characters. I especially love Nancy, a fellow ICU regular, as well as Josiah’s father-in-law, Stan. The focus on Josiah’s inner-journey, as compared with the profound silence coming from the one person that he both desired and dreaded to hear from, makes for a poignant, genuine change on the part of his character.
The novel is also a great example of how in-depth third person narration can go. As a reader that prefers first person in general, third person tends to be hard to get into, but I read 100 pages of this novel in a very brief sitting. It pulled me in almost immediately, and Ruchti a great job with that narration style.
This is the first full-length novel that I’ve read by Ruchti, and I’ll definitely be looking for books on her backlist to add to my TBR list. Recommended for readers looking for an emotionally deep read, that deals with tough topics in a delicate yet genuine way.
Cynthia Ruchti is an amazing author. Her books are so powerful and inspiring, I never really know how to review them. I know no review I will ever write will do them justice.
Her latest, A Fragile Hope, is no exception. To be honest, the synopsis doesn't give much detail about the plot and the story surprised me a bit. But I was glad I didn't know what it really was about from the start. I really didn't know what was going to happen or how it would all unfold.
The characters are realistic and amazingly inspiring. Their story is heartbreaking and yet full of hope! I love every little thought at the beginning of each chapter. This is the kind of story that stays with you for quite some time after you're done reading.
A highly recommended read for everyone!
A big thanks to the publisher for providing me with a complimentary copy! It did not affect my review in any way.
A FRAGILE HOPE is a heartrending story about tragedy, forgiveness, love, and hope. It's poignant and heartfelt from beginning to end, with plenty of nuggets of wisdom and life lessons for all readers. Highly recommended!
I don't know that I can put into words how deeply emotional and beautiful this book is. It's heartfelt on so many levels. I felt like crying almost the whole way through, but the story also consistently surprised me with these humorous, laugh-out-loud moments mixed with candid and sweet ones. From the beginning, my heart went out to both characters. I wanted so much for things to work out. So. Much. These characters, especially Josiah, are so easy to relate to and their situation is so raw. There was no way for my heart to not constantly be tugged on. My only complaint would be not getting to see more of the developments at the end. I felt like I journeyed for a long time in that stagnant phase and then got gypped a little in the end by not getting to experience more there.
In the end, was it what I wished for? This author never lets me down with her heartfelt stories. This included quite an emotional roller-coaster, but I enjoyed the ride immensely. A most inspiring read.
Content: Clean Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Litfuse Publicity, which did not require a review nor affect it in any way.
Karin and Josiah’s story captivated me from the very first scene, and I could not put it down until I’d reached the last word. Though most of the novel is seen from Josiah’s perspective, I felt as though I knew Karin just as well – if not better. The exquisitely-talented way in which Cynthia Ruchti crafted their interactions, their thoughts, their stories – in light of their current situation – it all burrowed in my heart and refuses even now to let go.
Bottom Line: Don’t let the title fool you. This story is anything but fragile. It’s a picture of vulnerability, yes, but even more so of strength. Of having everything you thought you knew ripped out from under you and struggling to stand under the onslaught. It’s not knowing how the story will turn out (for the characters or the reader) until the last pages. It’s learning how to truly love, how to truly forgive, and how to truly move past the past. Highly highly recommended.
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
A Fragile Hope … compelling, relevant, gripping, provocative, challenging, heartwrenching … but above all, filled with hope. This story spoke to me on many levels.
Josiah isn’t all that likeable in the beginning, and I wasn’t sure that he would ever be. He’s a self-absorbed man who expects his wife to be there when he needs her – until she isn’t. He’s the marriage counselor who doesn’t know where to turn when his own marriage is slipping away. A frustrating misunderstanding drives the story, and a hospital is the main setting. Much of the story is told from Josiah’s point of view because of Karin’s condition, yet I was surprised at how well I got to know Karin through the clever revealing of her thoughts.
I loved how, in the midst of all the drama, a thread of humor is ever present. And I particularly cared about two supporting characters – Josiah’s father-in-law and a fellow waiting room mom who became his mentor.
On one level, this is a highly entertaining story that grabbed me from the very first page and never let go – but that would just be the surface. When it comes to storytelling and writing style, Cynthia Ruchti is in a class all her own. Without a doubt, her writing ministers; it’s a balm to the soul. A Fragile Hope touches the heart and is capable of bringing comfort and healing. Spiritual elements aren’t overpowering, but you will see Jesus within its pages. Through Josiah’s journey, we see a reflection of what love looks like – a human love that ever-so-slowly comes to reflect the agape love modeled for us by Jesus.
A Fragile Hope is the type of book to read with a highlighter in hand. With its focus on sacrifice, forgiveness and unconditional love in the midst of circumstances where they make no sense and should be humanly impossible, this story challenged me. I give A Fragile Hope the highest of recommendations and place it on my “best of the best” list.
I was provided a free copy of this book through Litfuse Publicity. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I've read exactly four books by Cynthia Ruchti to date, and not once had I every been disappointed. That is definitely the case with her latest release, A Fragile Hope. In each book there's a story to tell, but most importantly a message that is so powerful, you wonder, you think and you hope.
In A Fragile Hope, so aptly titled, there's the struggle of betrayal, of doubt and of lost. Yet, within all that pain, we learn, we relate and we hope for that one glimpse of that word to bring light. The story centered on a marriage, but the themes that ties to it, trust, friendship and self-discovery all emanates from Josiah and Karin's journey. Each character, each plot-line and each dialogue was as it should be. Nothing was superfluous. Every word was placed for a purpose and that's the kind of novel that reaches deep into your soul and stir.
"Almost everything in life is better if we listen first."
I love the "Seedlings & Sentiments" quotes throughout the story, which add a little something. You'll need a pad and paper when reading, since you'll want to jot them all down! Love can be simple, and when reading A Fragile Hope, realizing along with Josiah, the simple reminder of God's faithfulness gnaws at you until you too, relish in it.
"Alone. It's a feeling, not a destination or condition. God is especially near to those who think they are alone."
I think the message doesn't only relate to married couples, but any kind of relationship. Trust, faith, hope and yes, even forgiveness are words to not only say, but believe and do. When all seems lost, keep hope.
"Sometimes all hope needs is a little oxygen."
Hope in times of pain. Hope in times of struggles. Hope all the time. Remember, even "seeds of hope can grow in mud," even a fragile hope.
Please note, these quotes were taken from an advance reader's copy, which is more a less an uncorrected proof. Please do not reuse these unless you've verified with the release copy. Thank you.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.
A very emotional look at a marriage that's in trouble unbeknownst to the husband, who only realizes it after his wife is in a serious accident while in the process of leaving him. With his eyes opened to the fact that his wife was not happy, he struggles to be there for his wife while working through the feelings of guilt and betrayal.
Although it is well written and has a happy ending, I had a hard time getting through the first part of the book because of the way that Josiah is operating off an assumption that's not true. It was just frustrating to me for some reason. I did appreciate, however, the fact that Josiah had some major character growth through the story because of the circumstances. And I loved the secondary characters like his in-laws (who were awesome), the waiting room lady, and the second doctor who helped him not give up.
All in all, a good book with themes of forgiveness, hope, and learning to have a faith in God that will see you through.
*Thanks to Litfuse for a complimentary copy of this book. I was not paid or required to write a positive review and all opinions stated are my own.*
Ruchti has created an interesting novel that is a sort of adult coming of age story. Josiah, the main character, is a successful marriage counselor whose career skyrocketed. He is a popular seminar leader and bestselling author. He has been totally oblivious to the fact that his own marriage has been in trouble. When his wife is in an automobile accident, we are along with Josiah as he spends time in the hospital waiting room. His wife is unresponsive but he has interactions with others that shed light on his own marriage, especially how he has treated his wife.
I find it interesting when an author writes a novel with the main character of the opposite sex, as is the case here. I have no idea if the thoughts and actions of Josiah truly represent those of a male in this situation or if they are what we women desire a male would think and do.
I felt the novel got off to a rough start. The first chapter focuses on the jumbled thoughts of the wife before the accident. It seemed so jumbled and cryptic it was hard to follow. Facts come to light as the novel progresses that help explain that first chapter but I would have rather had it initially clearer. Otherwise, the first chapter could have been skipped all together and we readers find out the truth along with Josiah. Either way, I think I would have enjoyed the rest of the novel more.
Most of the novel consists of Josiah's thoughts and the transformation that results. Sometimes I felt the material was repetitive while at other times I was captivated. I found myself skimming paragraphs at times to see if his thoughts moved the plot forward or not.
I recommend this novel to those who like reading about the character transformation a husband goes through when he is forced to face the reality of his attitude toward his marriage and his wife. I am not sure it is a novel men would enjoy but I think women would find it a different yet satisfying romance. We women like to see this kind of transformation in a man who initially had his wife as part of a successful career, not as a friend and lover. There is a strong Christian message in the novel as faith becomes an important element in Josiah's transformation. Discussion questions are included so this novel would be a good choice for a reading group.
I received a complimentary egalley of this novel through Litfuse. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Wow. This book will do a number on your heart. Josiah Chamberlain certainly didn’t win any awards for husband of the year at the beginning of this novel, but his journey of re-evaluation—of awakening, really—was a powerful read.
The story begins with one chapter from Karin’s point of view, giving us a window into her state of mind in the lead-up to the event that sets the rest of this book in motion. From chapter two onward, Josiah’s point of view carries the story, and despite the glimpse the first chapter affords us, it soon becomes clear we’re as much in the dark as he is. Unanswered questions abound, but the bare facts that confront him when he’s called to his wife’s side are enough to shatter his world. In the months that follow, as Karin lies in a coma barely hanging on to life and Josiah’s life becomes a pattern of ten minutes in, fifty minutes out (of her room), he takes a good, hard look at himself and doesn’t much like what he sees.
It’s testament to the strength of Cynthia Ruchti’s narrative style that she can make such an introverted story a truly gripping read. Karin’s parents, a fellow ICU veteran, and various other minor characters all play a role in shaping Josiah’s journey, but at its core, this is the story of a man who searches the depths of his soul to nurture a love that sacrifices self, even as Christ did ‘on the night He was betrayed...’ With heart-gripping results.
Although I anticipated the way some parts of this story would resolve, it didn’t take away from the emotional impact of those scenes when they came. A fantastic read if you're looking for a story that reaches right into the heart.
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.
"Some storms pass and leave the earth refreshed. Others leave devastation in their path. Either way, you will go on."
Dr. Josiah Chamberlain is devastated. "It hadn't taken long for despair to become his 'new normal'." When his wife is critically injured in an automobile accident that raises more questions than answers, Josiah is forced to listen to the still, small voice within. It's not very pleasant to view your life as others must have seen it; selfish, self-absorbed, stingy with appreciation for the woman who obviously loved him deeply, but had arrived at a crossroads; as the hours, days, weeks and months begin to pile up, while Karin's deep brain injury leaves her incapacitated, and her body responsible for another's life and breath.
Karin and Josiah both need the miraculous touch of the Master Healer, for not all injuries lie on the surface, and Josiah too, is brittle and broken.
"When you slide to the edge of 'I can't do this anymore,' open your eyes. A handhold of hope is waiting in front of you." Exquisite!
A Fragile Hope by Cynthia Ruchti. A story that will capture your heart right from the start. A powerful story of love, faith, hope, and heartbreak. Cynthia sure knows how to write a story. Be sure to order your copy of A Fragile Hope today. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This review is my honest opinion. 4 stars!
I'm struggling with the words right now to describe how much of an impact this book has made on me. I have dogeared and highlighted so many amazing quotes. For example, in chapter 34 "God never says. "Go away." He beckons us nearer, no matter what we've done." I loved this book. The main character is a very successful, high profile psychologist who was a "marriage miracle worker." However, his own marriage was falling apart and he never even realized it. He was a very self centered and pompous man. That is until a tragedy took place. His wife was in a horrible car wreck and in a coma for months. That's when God began to get a hold of him and work in his life. We began to see a change in him. God began a change in him. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book and how I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend A Fragile Hope. I was given a copy by the author and publisher and the review is my own.
Josiah Chamberlain is a noted marriage author and speaker, and he is overjoyed to be finishing another manuscript that will hopefully bless thousands of couples. His own marriage seems on solid ground - or so he thought up until the day Karin decided to leave him. Josiah's devastation is compounded by the fact that she can't offer him any answers, because on her way out of town she was involved in a terrible accident and now lies unconscious and unresponsive in a hospital bed.
Caught off guard by the fact that she felt a separation was necessary and the medical crisis which shifts everything about his daily activities, Josiah is confused and heartbroken. How can he work at rebuilding their relationship when Karin can't wake up? Even if she does, he doesn't know if she even wants to be married anymore. There are so many more questions than there are answers.
With gripping writing, Cynthia Ruchti takes us alongside Josiah during his agonizing watch over Karin. Hope, love, uncertainty, determination, and fear quiver in his heart, taking their turn dominating his emotions the way the clock dominates the brief moments each hour he can spend at Karin's bedside. Everything he thought he knew about marriage is thrown out or tested, and no matter how his agent presses him to continue with his scheduled events and upcoming deadlines, Josiah's well is empty.
This character-driven book was hard to put down. I found Josiah and Karin's story touching and heart-stirring. How can one hope when the outcome of hope is so in doubt? Josiah can't even find voice for his deepest fears, yet he finds strength to persevere one dark moment at a time, wanting to know yet terrified to know the state of his wife's heart should she be able to communicate again.
I would recommend this novel for all who are in a dark night of their own. Often our own hopes seem uncertain and cloudy, whether or not life-threatening situations are involved. Cynthia does such an excellent job of showing how God can meet us in those moments.
I received my copy of this book from the author. All opinions in this review are my own.
Fabulous writing draws the reader in to walk alongside a husband's struggle in the midst of a traumatic medical crisis. Watching him be transformed with a front row view to his thoughts and emotions, this heartfelt story touches on deep issues: dealing with grief, anger, bitterness, negative thinking, the need to forgive and be forgiven, and learning how to really love people. A beautiful reminder of God's constant love for us too. The author accurately describes the medical scenes, yet draws attention to the human story in the midst of it. Loved watching Josiah's growth from the beginning to the end; I went from wanting to slap him in the beginning, to wanting to hug him at the end. Great reminder to hang onto hope, with all the lovely quotes from Karin's cards added in. Hope definitely grows here! Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a realistic, character driven story with a thread of faith. Solid 5 Stars!

This was difficult to get through. The concept an plot was great. But I was disappointed when I didn’t feel any real connection between the characters. I had to flip forward through many pages since it was so repetitive.
A Fragile Hope by Cynthia Ruchti is a contemporary Christian novel. It is the most beautiful book. Once again, Cynthia Ruchti has washed over my soul with her words. A Fragile Hope will make you cry but it is so beautiful that it will leave you feeling calm and with a peace that can only come from an intimate acquaintance with the God who loves you. A Fragile Hope has many themes including steadfast love from God who "never says 'go away.' " God's presence permeates the novel. He shines through Cynthia Ruchti's word and His love pierces my heart. God's love has no boundaries. Jesus went to the cross "on the night He was betrayed" for everyone of us. "A Man deciding - choosing - to love." Within the novel there is also the steadfast love of a family who refuse to give up on hope. They press on. They push on. They have a hope in the One who can heal. "No matter how high your problems mount, remember the One who scales the mountains." This theme of hope resides on every page. "Hope doesn't have an expiration date." To fan hope into life sometimes just "needs a little oxygen." We can all have hope inside us because of Jesus, because of His sacrifice, because He never gives up. "Jesus... he knew he really had no other hope." The novel also has the theme of grief, a grief that continually washes over one. "Grief doesn't know how to tell the time." A grief for the 'what-if's.' "what-if's stung him like fire ants." As well as the 'oh no's.' But not a grief that is without hope because of Jesus. The power of prayer is revealed in the novel. "God leans forward... when He hears a gutsy prayer." Sometimes all we can do pray is "Oh Lord God." God always hears us and He always answers and He always draws near. " 'I didn't think He'd answer'... 'He always answers.' " Prayer may be silent from the heart or it may be from a prayer team. "I'll get the prayer team mobilised." Prayer is always powerful because it is sent to God. A Fragile Hope is a book that will soothe your soul. Tears can be healing. Tears will fall. The novel is just the most beautiful book ever. Cynthia Ruchti's books are always powerful. I am always deeply affected by her words. A Fragile Hope has penetrated my very being as Cynthia Ruchti's words have come from her heart and from her Maker, straight to my heart. A Fragile Hope is just so beautiful that I am at a loss to adequately describe it. You need to experience the beauty for yourself. Please read A Fragile Hope and let Cynthia Ruchti's inspiring words wash over you and calm your soul. Bless you Cynthia Ruchti for your beautiful, heartfelt book. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

My Review:
Sometimes as we are filling our days with our obligations our own personal lives are slipping right past us at an alarming rate at hyper speed really. Josiah is about to find the truth in that statement and when he realizes whats is happening, it starts to cripple him so much so that he will question everything that is around him.
I have found through personal experience that many times when you are the person that is suppose to be helping others that many times your own relationships tend to fall apart. So this is Josiah's fate or the author would have you to believe. He has to rush in and try to fix something that seems so incredibly impossible to fix or is it?
Fragile Hope, is an amazing book that at many times will take you by surprise. The author is so talented that she can take you on a ride down a certain path only to turn you upside down and going in the other direction before you know it.
Amazing story that leaves you speechless!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own.
A Fragile Hope is a different kind of love story...it's the story of a man who has taken his own family for granted while working hard to help others through his books. The wake-up call he wasn't expecting comes when he answers the phone to hear the voice of law enforcement on the other end asking if he knows Karin Chamberlain. Josiah's neatly ordered world is about to be turned upside down. As he heads out for the hospital in another town, Josiah doesn't know what to think. Why was Karin out in such bad weather? Where was she going? Who was the other person in the car with her? What had been going on with his wife that he was oblivious to? Was she leaving him? What will he find when he arrives at the hospital? So many questions and so few answers. You are going to have to read the book for yourself to find out the answers to Josiah's questions and so much more!
A Fragile Hope is one of the best books that I have read in a very long time....maybe ever. The characters are so well defined that I found myself wholly entering into their world, feeling their pain, sharing their joys and their sorrows. I highly recommend this book and hope that many people will read and enjoy Josiah & Karin's story...it is amazing!!
I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes from A Fragile Hope....
"A flutter of gossamer wings makes us wonder how such a fragile thing as hope can achieve flight. Yet it does fly."
Every once in a while there comes along an author that absolutely slays you every single time with every single book. Cynthia Ruchti is that author for me. Her newest book, A Fragile Hope that releases TODAY, is a story about a man who learns to truly love and encounters the "Grace Giver" in the most unlikely of places and circumstances. Josiah's story is truly "hemmed in hope" as Cynthia's author byline states. And, he learns that "Hope doesn't have an expiration date." Told primarily from Josiah's perspective, A Fragile Hope grabs you from the very first page. I was quickly invested in the characters who are complex and a storyline that is emotional, heartwrenching, but hopeful, so very hopeful. Ruchti doesn't shy away from tackling the hard stuff of life and never fails to weave gospel grace into her stories. I appreciate that Ruchti doesn't tidy things up but writes genuine characters on real journeys of faith learning to trust and rely on God. So many times books like A Fragile Hope are told from the female perspective. I appreciated that Cynthia broke away from that mold and told this story from the husband's point of view. Readers will learn so much right along with Josiah in this story. How do we extend grace, mercy, and forgiveness like our Savior did "on the night He was betrayed?" Josiah walks this journey and he learned how. Read A Fragile Hope and be blessed.
*I received a complimentary Advanced Reader's Copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
One of my ‘rules’ for reading and reviewing is that I have to like the main character—it’s hard to like a book (especially a romance) if you can’t stand the hero.
A Fragile Hope is the exception to that rule.
Josiah Chamberlain is one of the most self-absorbed men you could ever hope to meet. He’s a Christian relationship counsellor who has given up counselling in favour of writing best-selling self-help books while his wife dabbles in some little hobby ‘business’, selling home-made greeting cards.
But he’s forced to re-evaluate his life when Karin is involved in a fatal car accident, and ends up in ICU, unconscious. And she’s apparently pregnant … after they’ve been told Josiah can’t have children. This is the slightly frustrating cause of the Big Misundertanding, something that could have been sorted out early in the novel. But Josiah is the man who always has the right answer so it never occurs to him that he hasn’t.
I didn’t like Josiah, but I kept reading out of some kind of macabre fascination. Would Mr Intelligent get a clue? And when?
The other reason I kept reading was because of the writing. There were so much great writing, so many great lines. I appreciated the way the Christian themes were woven in, strong but not overwhelming or out of place. Overall, recommended for the outstanding writing, thought-provoking Christian themes, and a great character-driven story.
Thanks to Abingdon Press and NetGalley for providing a free ebook for review.
A Fragile Hope completely took me by surprise in its storytelling and the way the author wove spiritual truths into it. The back synopsis didn’t really give me any clue as to what I would be stepping into. I was immensely surprised and turned page after page wondering what was to become of married couple Josiah and Karin.
The story is told through Josiah’s eyes and we get to really see the world as Josiah sees it. He is not really likable as he is a self-absorbed, neglectful husband who really needs to get a clue and realize his wife needs him and she has needs. As we walk on this journey with him, he realizes some very important truths about Jesus, himself, his marriage, love, and forgiveness. It was a heartrending and an emotional read. It also really made me pause and take a good look in the mirror and wonder, am I as clueless and self-absorbed as Josiah is? This was a powerful read and I encourage thoughtful readers to pick up this soul stirring novel.
I received a copy of this book for free through Litfuse Publicity. I was not required to give a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.
What a profoundly moving story! A Fragile Hope took me by surprise as it led me in a direction I wasn't expecting. Filled with raw emotions and the vulnerability of being human, Ruchti takes her characters (and readers) on an impactful journey of discovery. Forgiveness. Grace. Hope. The impact faith can have on every aspect of your life.
Truthfully, I didn't like Josiah very much in the beginning. Self-absorbed, egotistical, he has unconsciously elevated himself above his wife and Karin naturally struggles with being taken for-granted. And then his world implodes and emotions are stripped bare. Josiah has to re-evaluate everything he thought he knew and in the process he grows into a deeper understanding of what love really is.
My thanks to Abingdon Press and Litfuse Publicity Group for providing me with a copy of this book.
This was a new to me author, and I have to say I found her writing style quite enjoyable. I am not at all a medical person, but I appreciated her apparent research to help readers connect with the story. Ruchti has an incredible understanding of human relationships and of the complexities they can present. I did find the main character, Joshua, a marriage counselor frustrating at times. He is extremely self-absorbed, even when getting the revelation that he is self-absorbed. Ruchti handled this brilliantly in so many instances, as who's to say we have to really like the main character? Still, I ended up impressed by his transformation throughout the book. The spirituality was spot on. It seemed real, not like an add-on of religiosity to make it work as a Christian book. I'm rating it 5 stars, and I will definitely read another book by Ruchti. So grateful I found her writings!
This was my first book by this author and I was impressed at the emotional level that she was able to dig into. What do we have when everything else is lost or not what it seems? That is the question that Josiah must answer. It is a question that every Christian has the answer to, but the application can be difficult in the midst of tragedy. This was the story of one Christian struggling to answer that question and the hope that he found at the end of his journey. I was moved by his journey. Full review at my website. I received this book complimentary as a participant of the Litfuse Blog Tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are my own.
A Fragile Hope will stay in my mind forever. The author tells a story that includes heartbreak and sadness that turns into hope and joy. I didn't want this story to end. I felt as if the characters were friends of mine and I was cheering them on during the whole story. Details of emotions and thoughts expressed by the characters touched my heart and soul. This is an excellent story. Be sure to bring the tissues when you read this amazing story. I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest personal opinion.
