Aya Kanno (菅野文; Kanno Aya) is a Japanese shōjo manga artist.
Former assistant of mangaka Masashi Asaki of Psychometrer Eiji fame, she made her debut in the January 2001 issue of Hakusensha's magazine "Hana to Yume" with Soul Rescue. Her works include Otomen.
I wasn't very impressed by the first couple of volumes of this series (I gave the first three volumes 2 stars) but there was enough angst and drama that I kind of couldn't look away. Slowly, my ratings starting creeping up to 3 stars.. and now, at volume 6, I find myself actually really enjoying this series.
It's so overwrought and angsty but also engrossing. Secret identities! Forbidden love! (Literal) backstabbing! This series has it all. I also like how Kanno subverts gender: Henry is a meek pacifist while his wife is ambitious and violent; Henry's son Edward wants to be a chivalrous hero, but at his core, he's a dreamer and a romantic; Anne is soft, but has a quiet strength to her; etc.
I'm still iffy on the intersex rep though - it feels innaccurate at best and exploitative at worst.
MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!! AND MAJOR AMOUNT OF EMOJIS AHEAD!! 😅😅😅😄😄😄😄😐😐😐😐🤔🤔🤔🤔
I WARNED YOU, SO BEWARE 😋😁😂!
😧.............🤯 This volume is crazy! This deals with some very serious topics while also keeping the story going at a incredible fast pace. I felt so bad for King Henry and Anne. 😢 I am not giving this a 5 out 5 star rating because at least 1/2 of this volume felt like a filler to me. I also got kind of confused at some points. I swear if there is another Edward in this story I will just explode 🤯. Is there a new York king? Or not? Is he named Edward, as well?(Haha NEW york 🤣) Or what?....XD....I think this volume is raising many questions which I think will be answered in the future volumes. This time period is so different from now that sometimes things to me seem out of the ordinary or different but I think I've learned to understand the time period more. ALSO....um........ HOW IS WARWICK DEAD?? 😨😱 One page he's alive then...BOOM 😵! DDEEAADD LOL. I am really excited to see how the Richard and Henry situation plays out. What are they going to doo do 😢?????? I NEED TO KNOW 🤣

Another action-packed volume! These chapters highlight just how cunning Richard can be, whether it's convincing his brother to change his mind or tricking Lancaster soldiers. On top of that, there are tons of character revelations. For one, Catesby definitely has unrequited feelings for Richard. Henry and Margaret's relationship is so messed up that it makes Edward and Anne's well-adjusted in comparison. In addition, Buckingham is shaping up to be a major player in the story. However, I'm put off by how Aya Kanno would quote Shakespeare's dialogue word for word. It's jarring and awkward, especially when the characters aren't talking like that most of the time.
i'm gonna be real with you all, this is getting 3 stars because the ending reminded me of the iconic moment in basara where sarasa and the red king meet on the battlefield and finally discover the truth of who they are. sometimes a story gets points for reminding you of another superior story! i look forward to seeing where this cliffhanger takes us in the next volume
Ten tomik dostaje ode mnie 3 gwiazdki.
The intense, bloody climax between Edward IV, the White Rose of York and his former Kingmaker looms over both of them while Richard of Gloucester finds himself torn between the memory of his beloved father, Richard, Duke of York and his newfound love for Henry of Lancaster. Anne Neville also finds her loyalties shifting as she comes to realize her new husband, Prince Edward of Lancaster is as much of a victim as she is. Resonating with the powerful events in history and the plays inspired by those events, this emotionally driven manga gives a unique and beautiful character to Richard of Gloucester, Henry VI of Lancaster, Edward IV of York, George of Clarence, the Duke of Warwick, and the various dynamic figures around them in this exciting, darkly exquisite shoujo manga depiction of the War of the Roses.
These characters are so messed up 😭 But it’s kind of intriguing to read about. I feel sad for the star-crossed lovers, but I wonder what they’ll decide to do after this 🤔

No puedo.
Trigger Warning: War, Murder, Mention of rape Requiem of the Rose King follows Richard who is the third son of the Duke of York and living in a world where the Wars of the Roses is on the precipice of beginning. I think this is uch a unique series and I really love seeing Aya Kanno's spin on this series. I find the Wars of the Roses to be really interesting to study and seeing how they mix the history with their own story is really fascinating. There are a lot of political moving parts in this series and in what happened in the Wars of the Roses. Richard is not a character who you love but one you find interesting and you can't help but want to know more about. I really love how Aya Kanno crossed the paths of Henry VI and Richard III. I do sometimes have to check to see if I am understanding the history correctly but I find it so fascinating to read. I will say to be warned as there is a brief mention and depiction of rape in this this that could be upsetting. This volume also gets into a bit of a war bit near the end due to the way things were going int his time period. I am so fascinated to see how this series is going to go as I find hte mixture of history and Aya Kanno's own story they include. I cannot wait to read the next volume.
Edward y Anne como he dicho, me gustan bastante.
this series continues to mess with my head in hitherto unimaginable ways . . .
as a Lancaster by blood but a York sympathizer (my ancestors roll over in their graves about now), a devout admirer of Joan of Arc, and one who has always been fascinated by Richard III in general - this story is one hot mess and this volume wasn't any easier to get through because of it. that being said - bring on volume seven. I feel like someone just slapped me and it hurt without helping, but I need more.
I am still enjoying this series. Though I would like more "Shakespeare" in it, each installment is still entertaining and finds Richard struggling with his ambition (caused by his trauma seeing his father killed and his promise to uphold the York name) and his desire to be loved (for his mother hates him and he feels his demon tendencies taking over, though not while Henry or Anne are present). I love the covers for this series and the art style, in general, is well done.
Character 4| Setting 4.5| Plot 4| Art 5| Enjoyability 5
Rating: 4.5
There isn't really much to say with this volume except for Irony. So much Irony. I do love a good identity reveal, as this happens at the very end of this volume as well.
I just want to say they are a lot of fire page spreads in this volume.
I am kind of weirded out by Richard's ghost kissing Richard(the son). It is weird. But the feather thing is very good. Not sure how to feel about that.
Richard and Henry must part ways after Richard has recuperated. The three York brothers are reunited, I liked that they accepted each other despite all the strife George had caused. Warwick redeems himself in the end. Anne and Edward L. are forced by Margaret to consummate their marriage. Richard and Henry discovered each other’s true identities.
Ok this was such a serve because Warwick was genuinely one of the best characters. You can't really call him a villain or antagonist because everyone is playing everyone in this story. The showdown between Edward IV and Warwick on the battlefield was genuinely one of the best scenes in the whole series so far... can't believe one of the best scenes doesn't involve Richard and one of his harem.
