Hot DAMN!!!!! What an awesome and wild ride! This series just keeps getting better. And I didn't think that was possible. Just when I think I have it figured out, BAM! Another bomb is dropped. This series is filled with so much betrayal, angst, and magic, it's unbelievable! And I seriously can not count on anyone being trustworthy, because it's just an illusion. I mean, there are a small few that I know are on the good side. But anyone else I get attached to, end up being the evil fuckers.
Ahhhh, so much evil. So much backstabbing. Poor Harper can't fully trust those around her. My heart breaks for her so much. Everyone is out to get her. But I'm so glad we finally get the story of her mother and what happened in the past. And Jackson...what can I say about this amazing and broken soul. I love him!!!!
I can't get enough of this world and the characters-that are actually good, that is-are just amazing. I've immensely enjoyed this series! Every chance I get, I'm reading it. At work, in bed, on the couch, in the bathroom-cause I need privacy from my kids sometimes-anywhere and everywhere. It's just consuming me. When I'm not reading, I'm thinking about Harper and Jackson and what evils they'll have to face next. It's crazy. I just love these two and really hope there's an HEA at the end of it all. *crossing fingers*
Again I loved this one. Harper is becoming such a likable character. And I knew there was something up with mrs Ashford . Poor Harper. I will update with a better review later I'm stuck on bed rest....
Ugghh here I go with the 4.5 broken record! Not sure which way to go again. The beginning was a little slow and that might have been partly because of how good Bitter Demons ended. A lot of times when a series peeks like it did in the third book there is a small let down in the next book. Well this book did that for me as it kind of reset the tempo of the story.
Well with the story in a mini reset it started to build again. I loved that Mary Anne and Courtney were pulled in a little tighter to her small group of people that she can trust. Maybe the 2 people outside of maybe Lark that she can trust. Jackson is still elusive through most of this book and it was a little maddening. But I guess if you are a hundred, how much are you going to trust a 16yo?? I never got to the point where he pissed me off but with as hard as Harper was trying to break the spell it def bugged me. Once it got rolling it friggin steam rolled!! I was about 60% and was like one more chapter. Well I didn’t put it down till I was done. Some of the clues that didn’t get top priority with Harper made me want to pull my hair out and just slap her.
I might come back and light the 5th star that’s how close it was for me. Really pumped to move right on with the next book!
How is it possible that this series just keeps getting better with each book!? This one just totally blew all the others out of the water! I was literally on the edge of my seat from about 44% and then couldn't stop reading. If it weren't for the fact that I could no longer keep my eyes open at around 83%, I would have finished this last night! Grrr.
FULL REVIEW TO COME...BUT I THINK IT'S SAFE TO SAY THAT I LOVED IT! :o)
The ritual for making Harper a full-fledged Prima is coming up fast, which will bind her permanently to both the demon soul that was put inside her and to the Peachville demon portal. With the demon inside her being the missing brother to her boyfriend Jackson, she needs to find a way to escape the ritual and stop the enslavement of demons with the young witches who receive the souls not understanding what is being done to them. But there are odd things happening. The ritual room of the Crows, the villains who attempted to kill Harper in the previous book, has been destroyed and powerful spell books have been taken, and there are odd people following Harper around.
I loved the earlier books in the series, but it felt like there was too much going on in this particular book, like it didn’t have a focus (just multiple threads) until near the end. I even wavered on dropping this series somewhere toward the middle of the book with the pacing being rather slow and I lost interest with the main character. It just because it wasn’t picking up my attention and felt a bit like a chore to finish. But the ending did pick up and does have me wanting to continue on with the next book. And it did intrigue me about Jackson’s life as a demon, and who he was before Harper, so it has me itching to pick up the novella starring him. Harper herself has ceased to be interesting. She’s really just a bland generic feisty female heroine in this. I liked in the beginning when she was a goth girl attempting to fit in with the cheerleaders, but now that she’s one of them, her character feels like it’s lost that edge to it that made her stand out from the rest of the vain cheerleader coven girls, even if she’s one foot outside the group as the new girl and fighting for demon rights. I did like the intrigue of trying to find out who was the one working against her, which seemed like it was coming at her from multiple fronts (see what I mean about lacking focus?)
Installment number four and things keep getting ramped up with a big game changer, along with lots of plot twists and new characters. Harper’s growing more in her character and realizing more things about her world and her origin, including a new factor in the story that blew me away and seems to be a major factor in the rest of the series going forward. Some things that were set up since book one are starting to come together and I knew something was off about certain characters. The engaging prose and the many twists had me finish this in a few days! Looking forward to seeing what happens after the last quarter of the book and that massive cliffhanger/twist ending leading into Rival Demons.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love this series. I tweet about it and mention it to friends on facebook. I received a copy from my cousin Julie to read and compare thoughts for review. I can’t write this review without gushing. I was so excited to start reading this book. Within the first few chapters I was ecstatic with uncontained joy. Sarra brought back the ribbons. I know it is a minor thing but in book 1 Harper had a style all her own that included tying a ribbon around her wrist as a fashion accessory. In the following books it wasn’t mentioned again. Harper had become a lemming. She lost her unique sense of style. But in book 4 Harper ties a pink ribbon around her wrist for her official date with Jackson. I smiled throughout that whole chapter.
This book had Harper finding out truths about her mother and members of the Order. What she finds out puts her life in danger. Jackson is by Harper’s side for the most part and it seems that their relationship is right on track. However, Jackson still keeps things from Harper because he feels he needs to protect her. I love that Harper is a strong female character. She doesn’t put up with being kept in the dark and her spunky, sassy side comes out. She lets Jackson and those around her know that she is not a pushover.
This work of art, yes it is art to me, is self published. It does have some minor editing errors but not enough to distract the reader. The story is so full of action that the reader can overlook any errors. I was torn between wanting to finish the book and wanting to make it last. It was over far too quickly for me and I was left wanting more. More Harper, More Jackson, and More answers. Sarra has developed her characters so well over the course of this series that I am now attached to them. The story just keeps getting better and I am intrigued about where she is taking this story for book 5. I can’t give Sarra enough kudos for a job well done.
I recommend this whole series. If you haven’t read this series then don’t hesitate any longer. You won’t be disappointed and you just might find you fall in love with Jackson and that’s okay I don’t mind sharing. Harper will be the girl you root for. You’ll love her determination and strength of character. You can’t lose. Go now…get started.
*don't read my thoughts if you haven't read the series. There might be spoilers. My thoughts (may include spoilers): I like the friendship that has developed between Harper and Courtney since book two. I am still wondering about Courtney. Not much, if anything, has been given away about her background. I’d like to know a bit more about her and see if she plays a bigger role in helping Harper.
Book 4 introduces a whole group of Shadow Demons (thus the title Shadow Demons) that are rebelling against the Order. I’m wondering if there is going to be some kind of showdown between the Order and the Demons. What are the Demons going to do back in the Shadow World?
Maryanne saved Harper from her family, the Crows, and seems to be friends with Harper. Courtney and Maryanne seem to be protective of Harper. In book 4 the Demons say that the Order is powerful and there is no way to gain support from all the Orders. I’m wondering if they might be able to get enough support from witches that the Order does not recruit. Courtney and Maryanne seem to be powerful and there just might be others out there like them that can side with Harper against the Order.
Jackson oh Jackson, how I love thee. I fall more in love with this character as the series progresses. Jackson still gives Harper kisses that make her melt and I melt right along with her. Harper puts my feelings into words when she says “My heart beat faster when he looked at me. Even after all these months of being close to him, I still hadn’t gotten used to the way he made me feel. I loved everything about him, from his bright green eyes all the way down to his leather boots. I loved the curve of his jaw-line and the way his lips always curled up on one side in that sexy half-smile of his.” Yep I’m a goner. He seems to have his powers back but where does that leave his brother and just how did that happen.
Brooke, Brooke, Brooke. We start to see that she is different toward Harper in book 3 and it gets worse in book 4. I’m a little confused here. She is all snarky with her comments and insinuates to Harper that she would be a better Prima. Then at the end of book 4 she is acting like she is remorseful and reluctant to do what her family wants. Who is the true Brooke? Is she a friend or a foe? Haven’t quite figured that out.
Today's review is on The Peachville High Demons series by Sarra Cannon
Since I really couldn't find anything but good things about each book in Cannon's Peachville High Demons series, I simple read each of the four installments currently available, and decided that I would simply provide my review and opinion of the series as a whole. I did; however, provide a review of the first book, Beautiful Demons already.
Each book follows the life of Harper Madison, a orphan who has been in numerous foster homes until she finally ends up at Shadowford Home for girls. This is her last chance. If she messes up there she will be placed in juvenile hall. But trouble seems to follow Harper like a black cloud. Suddenly a local cheerleader is found dead, seemingly burned from the inside out. Everything begins to change for Harper after that. Love, and popularity begin to fill her life as she joins the cheerleading squad and begins dating the star quaterback, but she finds she is drawn to Jackson, the boy with the amazing green eyes.
In the second book; Inner Demons, Harper finds that she is a witch, and not just any witch. Harper is the Prima Futura of the Order of the Shadows coven. But somehow she cannot seem to remember her life before being on the cheer squad, and no matter how much she asks about it, she finds no answers. The only person who seems to know the truth is Jackson and once he reveals it to her, everything changes. Once Harper finds out the the coven forces Demons from the shadow world to join with them, Demons like Jackson, Harper realizes she has to do something to stop it, but how?
In book three; Bitter Demons, Harper is still in the hospital after saving Jackson from the Others. Once released, they spend as much time together as they can until another coven arrives. One of the other covens witches, Zara, begins training Harper which dampens on the time she can be with him, but she learns so much about herself and her powers. Using her powers, she and another witch switch places and live the life of the other for just a few hours until trouble pops up again.
In book four Harper learns all the dirty secrets of the Order. She learns the truth about how and who killed her mother after finding her mothers journal. She also learns how corrupt the High Council actually is and what they are capable of doing to those who choose to stand up to them. Even with that knowledge she still fights for what's right, even though it may cost her her life. But she won't show fear. Her one saving grace is that the man she loves will be safe. Jackson will continue the fight against the Order with his friends.
Each book in this series was full of surprises. Twists, turns, suspense, you name it. I couldn't put them down, I couldn't get enough! Each character grows as each book progresses. And though there are continued attacks on Harper, each one is completely different and exciting. The way that Cannon brings in the background of each main character makes it all the more interesting to read. You never know the whole truth until Cannon wants you to.
Shadow Demons by Sarra Cannon is the fourth book in her marvelous series, Peachville High Demons! From book one to book four, you will be begging for more!
Harper continues to unfold the mystery of her mother and the Order. As she digs deeper, she finds out the secrets that her mother has hidden away in a journal. It contains very personal information about her mother and how her life was like. Harper’s mother had a best friend with whom she trusts only to find out that she has betrayed her and so her mother put a spell on her to hide her best friend’s motive.
What we find out about the Order just surprises me. I cannot believe how they will do anything in their power to get what is rightfully theirs. If someone does not listen, they can just do whatever it is to make them listen or disappear. It really amazes me to see how bad the Order is and how some people can really be blinded by power. I guess anything and everything can be blinded when you have power.
What I like about this book is the mystery and where Harper discovers the truth about her mother, her mother’s best friend, and the Order. Everything seems to be so powerful and Harper seems to handle everything so maturely. You can really see how brave and strong Harper is. She really gets to know more about who her mother is. I feel like Harper is really “connecting/connected” to her mother in some sense through her mother’s journal.
Since book one, I have been drawn in! The book gets better and better! You would not want to put this book down! I cannot wait for the next book!
My Rating 4.5 Stars In Shadow Demons (Peachville High Demons #4, a Young Adult Novelette series), Harper learns more terrible secrets. People she trusts, those who are supposed to protect and guide her, betray her, and beliefs she held dear are exposed as falsehoods and lies. Still, Harper holds true to her fundamental nature. She is more than ever determined to rail against the evil forces aligned against her. As Future Prime, Harper is expected to lead by example, but when she discovers and blows the whistle on a gruesome cover-up she sets off a series of events that put her in the forefront of an unprecedented rebellion.
This is another phenomenal, fast-paced entry in this series. Harper is growing into her powers, maturing, and becoming more self-confident. The world-building continues to expand as the author sets the malignant forces loose in heart-stopping action. This book perfectly sets the stage for the final chapter which is expected to be released later this year. Imaginative, quirky, and suspenseful this appealing series should not be missed. In my opinion, it has broad appeal for younger readers as well as for those of us who are simply young at heart.

Oh my goodness! Sarra Cannon you are amazing! I love this series so much. Harper has learned that there are a lot more secrets in Peachville than she imagined. First of all the Council, they are just mean, evil people and cannot be trusted. The only people you can trust are Jackson, Zara, Mary Anne. Yes I know, Mary Anne is actually nice and I think I might like her. Then close to the end you realize that there are some Shadow Demons still on Earth. There is just a lot. Zara's mother Priestess Winter is evil, like everyone else. Then we find out that Mrs. Ashworth, Drake's mother was Clarie-Harper's mother's best friend and she tried to kill her with the help of the crows. So basically everyone is a traitor sort of. Finally Jackson says he loves Harper and she does the same. But Jackson, he held off telling her about his powers for so long I was happy when he told her, but his powers weren't anything bad. He could have told her wayy before now. I really love this and if you haven't read Beautiful Demons yet, you need too! It's about demons, cheerleaders, and it's in Georgia if anyone cares about that. But it's amazing and I want everyone to read it and love it like I do.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
HOLY CRAP so much drama! There was so much backstabbing it was insane not knowing who you can trust and the one person you want to trust is keeping so many secrets you don't know what to think. Harper has to leave Peachville because she has learned people are not what they seem and she runs away with Jackson and meet up with his demon buddies who she fears are the ones who killed an intire demon gate community boy does she ever learn how wrong she is! Harper windes up getting caught by the Winter Priestess and is sentenced to death and she has no one around who will speak up for her because everyone is to scared to stand against the council.
Adding a review for this as I've rated it without a review.
I remember reading this as one of the first fantasy YA novels. If I reread this I am not convinced I'd be as in love with it as I was when I read this in 2014. A lot of things have happened since. 2014 Was a very hard year for myself so all the reviews are showing up on the same date. I can't explain why they are, if the ratings are justice or accurate I can also not say when I truly read these. I'm just going to say 2014 on the same day added just to keep the year right if not the month...
Each book read in this series brings you more intently into the story of Harper Brighton! Shadow Demons left my heart racing and mind intently glued to the details and emotions of Harper. I absolutely love this series! Thank you Sarra for an amazing journey! I'm excited to start book 5...
Omg I cannot wait to read book 5. This paranormal romance is awesome. If you like witches, demons, action, suspense and great written characters please read this series.
Sarra Cannon has done it again with the 4th and best installment of her Shadow Demons Saga! Shadow Demons was full of danger and twists that literally had me gasping aloud.
So many questions answered and so many left to be answered. I wish I could just put this series down and get something else done, but I don't think I can!
These are solid 3.5 star books and I'm enjoying them, I just wish they weren't so short! Seems like the author and/or publisher is stretching them out on purpose.
It’s amazing how much one’s opinion of a book series can morph as the series progresses. I started out saying that this series was very RL Stine-ish. I feel now that this may have been an unfair assessment. Not in a bad way though. I do not tend to get “hooked” on YA novels. They’re amusing, yes but not addiction worthy. This series is like crack in Arial font.
My initial thoughts going into Shadow Demons were mainly grounded in the fact that I desperately wanted to know what the hell is up with Jackson. He’s fantastically sketchy but he was literally giving me late night anxiety attacks. I found that the books were inspiring dreams in which I was looking for a secret and no matter what I did or where I turned, the key was always just out of reach. I was driving me a little bit cray-cray, Well, fear not fellow readers!!! Shadow Demons FINALLY gives you some REAL info on who exactly Jackson is!!! I wont tell you whether or not it’s a bad thing because that would ruin it all but you will definitely want to keep plugging away at this series to get to the answers.
In Beautiful Demons, we are introduced to our main character, Harper Madinson, as a troubled teen who has done nothing but bounce from foster home to foster home. Through the series, we are given bits and pieces of insight into Harper’s past and exactly how she ended up with adoptive parents to begin with. The problem is, in the teeny tiny town of Peachville, no one seems to have any answers for Miss Harper. Well, until now. Four books into the series and we finally get some series dirt on what went down all those years ago. In a way, Harper gets a little bit of closure in Shadow Demons.
Shadow Demons also gives us a look at the different types of magic that the futures are capable of and it’s pretty safe to say that Harper has some catching up to do!
We are also shown exactly what The Order of Shadows is really capable of. And, you guessed it, it’s not pretty.
I am giving Shadow Demons 5 stars! This series gets better and better with every installment! Off to go finish Rival Demons (book 5) now!
Omg what can I say about this book. It's Amazing!!!! I just love Sarra's work. She always has you hooked from the very first page. This one was so intense and informative.
I am so happy Jackson has his powers back. And I'm so happy that he admitted he loved Harper. I screamed like a little girl at that part. And ugh Brooke I knew she had to be behind some of the things going on. Same with Mrs. Anderson. But omg to find out she was Harper's mom's best friend and tries to kill her!!! Shocking!
The new demons. Hmmm what can I say about them. Most of them seem pretty cool. They are fighting to try and save their families and even help some of the order members rebel and see how wrong what they are doing is. Lea- she must be an ex who Jackson dates in the shadow works before he was trapped by the order. I feel kinda of bad for her but also don't like her I get she is heartbroken over Jackson falling for Harper But Harper had no way of knowing Jackson had a girlfriend or ex because he hasn't really opened up to Harper about his life and his past. I'm hoping lea doesn't try and ruin things for Harper and Jackson. Winters- omg! She is behind the attack how could she do that. Why can't she see what they were saying was a good and smart idea. And her looking thru Harper's mind and finding out she knew and sentenced her to death is just wrong. I hope Harper and Jackson end her. I'm so glad Jackson was able to save her before they could kill her.
So I have feelings about this book. I love fantasy books and horror books so I really thought this saga was gonna be just awesome. I really enjoyed book 1 and 2. Number three was pretty good as well. But this one was really slow in the buildup of excitement. To be honest I only like Harper half of the time and the rest of the time her incessant whining makes me wanna punch her. Also why do these books always have to have that Twilight like obsessive love. Like why can't they be a couple with healthy boundaries? Also 4 books in and not a queer character in sight and not enough POC representation either. I really don't wanna be rolling my eyes whenever Harper and Jackson are being obsessively heterosexual. Maybe it will get better but I am taking another long break before I read the next one. I don't know why I assumed this would be something different. I gave it three stars just because it got better towards the end and I love Lea, Mary Anne and some of the supporting characters.
Currently on book 4 of the shadow demons Saga and I am still loving it, I'm planning on getting the fifth book once I'm done writing this review that's how much I'm into the series.
In this installment we are introduced even further into the hierarchy and politics of the secret society of the order of shadows we are also introduced into the history of Harper's mom which is very interesting and into how different factions of the order interact with each other .
This series is getting better and better! :) I love that it is fast-paced and action-packed! I also like that Harper's character is very realistic and her character ARC is believable and powerful. In addition, in this book, we get to learn more about magic and its limitations, about the past, and about the shadow demons. We see more spells, more training, more rituals, and more world-building! I REALLY couldn't put this book down! Hooked! :) I would definitely recommend it! I am so looking forward to reading the next one! :)
I am so hooked on this series! Sarra Cannon is an amazing author. She knows how to craft a great story and pace it just right in order to keep you on the edge of your seat. If you haven't read the first three books in the series, I suggest reading them first, but even if you haven't, this book is full of action and suspense, not to mention a great love story and lots of magic! It's a quick read, too--I finished it in just a few hours. I highly recommend checking out all of Sarra's books as well as her YouTube channels. Happy reading!
Definitely getting more lively and exciting as the series progresses. I've already added #5 & #6 to my list. It is interesting how stories of betrayal and corruption seem to enthrall us - just a little maybe? Perhaps it's the commentaries they impart that are based on so-called "true life!" Reflections of ourselves possibly. Don't worry; I'm not here to judge anything or anybody except the books! Whatever.....keep 'em coming please.
