Killer Run is the 5th book in the Tourist Trap Mysteries written by Lynn Cahoon. I've read 3 or 4 of her other series, but I'm all caught up and waiting for the next release. Since I enjoy the author's writing style, character development, and mystery plots, I began reading one of her earlier series. With ~15 books, I have a lot to catch up on this year... and I'm finding them just as good as all the others. But I still haven't figured out how the "tourism" piece fits in. While South Cove, California is a wonderful little town with visitors, the plots almost always focus on people that live there... and a few visitors get involved, so it's not so much about the tourism business I had expected. Still fun reads, and the main character, Jill, is a clever busybody who tries to beat her boyfriend, the local detective, when it comes to solving a crime. Greg doesn't often let her get away with it, and they have a memorable dynamic in their relationships. In this installment, a Hollywood couple is working with the town on Jill's mission launch, and murder is in store. Good book, and I was glad to see more happening between Josh and Aunt Jackie, though I really dislike the Josh character. I hope he gets off'd in a future book (yes, I said it!). On to the next one.

I'm so enjoying this series! It gets better with each installment. Jill is one of those people that you'd really like to know - friendly, happy, and super serious about what goes on in her town. Greg, her boyfriend, is all of those and more - he's a local policeman. Of course, that leads to some conflict between the two. The stories are fun and I just go with the flow - I don't try to solve them or think ahead. I just read for the sheer pleasure. This is truly one of my favorite cozy series. Highly recommended.

This was another 4 star read for me in A Tourist Trap Mystery series. I loved book 1 and 2; the beautiful coastal town of South Cove and the main character Jill Gardner's bookstore cafe are some of the things I enjoy a lot in the series. Jill and her police detective boyfriend are so likable as well as all the side characters like her aunt Jackie. Jill goes sleuthing once again when there is a murder during the South Cove Mission walk, much to Greg's chagrin. I didn't guess who the killer was until the end. I can't wait to read all the books in the series. They are fun and entertaining.

We return to California and the Coffee, Books, and More shop in South Cove. Jill and Greg are all set to take off on an Alaskan Cruise right after the Mission Run Event. Well there plans go South when a dead body is found during the race next to the running trail. The dead woman is part of a public relations firm that was hired to promote the event. Between you and me, I was so happy she was the victim. She was a real witch that rubbed me and others the wrong way quickly. She must have really ticked someone off to get killed.
If that isn’t enough to force Greg to cancel their getaway, there is a vandal on the loose and their only target seems the model train store. They are pretty persistent and damage is escalating. While Jill has the week off and Greg is tied up at the station, she decides to get a little redecorating done on the house she inherited. Of course, she is going to stick her nose into both investigations, this is Jill we’re talking about. The trouble is she may push someone too far and end up on a permanent vacation cruising right on up to the pearly gates.
All our favorite characters return and again the dialogue is spectacular. Aunt Jackie continues to bring the humor. Her gentleman friend Josh is the one the found the body and ends up in the hospital himself. That doesn’t slow Jackie down much at all. She has plans for him, plans for Jill, Jill’s home, the bookstore/coffee shop, and plans to keep Sasha, their part time employee busy too. All with a big smile on her face. This is a great set of characters.
As someone that helped organize events like the Mission Run, this story rang pretty true to life. The corporation or the group running the show gives just enough information for local groups to set up their individual event. Then they show up on the day the event is to take place and complain about the way things are set up or doesn’t meet their expectations. Been there, done that, and like in this story the local event was a great success in spite of corporate’s ideas. Well, except for the dead PR woman :)
Lynn Cahoon has written another story that draws the reader in from the start and entertains us thoroughly. The plot twists are tight and truly unexpected. I was totally caught off guard by some of the guilty parties. The two cases intertwined so well. A nice blend of daily life, romance, mystery and mayhem. I really enjoy this series.
Murder on Wheels comes out February 2 and now I am all caught up and ready for it!

Really 3.5 stars, but I rounded up.
In this addition to the Tourist Trap series Jill is helping with South Cove's first annual 5k run when her aunt and her friend run into a dead body on the track. Jill, trying to stop sleuthing after her last foray into murder. However, soon she's back in the thick of a murderous plot involving false identities, unfaithful relationships, and vandalism. Can she find the killer before it's too late? This book was a really nice installment in this series.
Jill is generally a very likeable character who is logical and conclusive, however, in this book I found her to be too blunt and obvious with her investigation tactics. Greg, also, in this book annoyed me. He and Jill are just too perfect, they never fight and he says he's angry but yet he doesn't act that way or even sit down with Jill. Jill, also, takes him for granted in this book, with some comments and actions she does. However, the rest of the characters were as wonderful as always, Aunt Jackie got a larger role in this book, and I was glad, she is funny! Josh, Sasha, Lille, Toby, and Amy all appear, of course and are fun and realistic.
The mystery was simply okay. There was nothing really "shocking" about the identity of the killer, but that could easily be because I've been preoccupied recently. It was nicely pt together, however, and there were a few surprises leading up to the killer's big reveal.
Overall a nice addition to a strong series. With mostly great characters, and an average mystery Killer Run gets 3.5/5 stars! I'm ready for the next one!

An amusing and light-hearted cosy murder mystery set in South Cove California.
Killer Run is #5 of the Tourist Trap Series. Although I have not read any of the previous books in this series, this did not impact on my reading pleasure. Killer Run works perfectly well as a stand alone read.
Jill Gardner, is owner of Coffee, Books & More, girlfriend of the local sheriff, and enthusiastic member of the local business promotion group. She is involved in a fundraiser run to raise money for the local historic preservation group. And all is going well until a runner stumbles over a body on the trail - that of a vicious woman, partner in the PR company promoting the event.
Aided by her inimitable Aunt Jackie, Jill, having had her planned holiday with the sheriff cancelled because of the murder, starts to investigate the murder and the vandalism of a local shop.
There are numerous red herrings to keep this an interesting read.

Having read all the books in the series, it is always fun to catch up with familiar characters and some new ones. As the small town and local businesses come together for their B to B meetings, fun, friends, mischief, back stabbing, and mystery--this time there will be a 5k race, a fundraiser for their local preservation society.
Jill, is the liaison between the South Cove City Council and the business community, which means she is responsible for setting up the monthly meetings, publishing the meeting minutes on the website and any other crappy job the major decides to assign her. Sandra & Michael Ashford, owners of Promote Your Event, are overseeing the event; however, their marriage does not seem so friendly.
The Mission Walk gets complicated when a dead body is found, on the side of the trail, a husband turns to Jill to help out. Of course, Greg (the local detective and Jill’s boyfriend); does not like her messing in police business; however, she always seems to be front and center and puts herself in harms’ way, with her side kick, Jackie.
If there had not been a dead body on the path, Jill would have called this a successful first Mission Walk for South Cove. Jill and her aunt Jackie always seem to sniff out trouble and of course, land in the center of drama. All Jill wants to do is going on a vacation with her man, Greg and possibly become a PI. (she is well-equipped).
From romance, wit, affairs, murder, and small town politics, South Cove has it all for a cozy "curl up" autumn Tourist Trap Mystery series. If you want some light fun, enjoy eccentric characters, and a town full of mysteries, recommend catching up with the other books in the series.

Coffee, Books, and More--part coffee bar; part bookstore; would be my favorite place to hang out and read a cozy mystery. Owned by Jill Gardner, and run with the help of her Aunt Jackie, and a couple of trusted friends, it's a popular stop for locals, and tourists, in California. Trouble seems to follow Jill and it's a bone of contention between her and Greg, her police officer boyfriend. When suspicions are raised about money at a special walk-and-run fundraiser for the preservation of historic missions, Jill finds herself sleuthing on the sly once again, in this fifth story in the Tourist Trap Mysteries. Add a corpse, some malicious vandalism, and a stalker, and time starts ticking away fast in the hunt for a greedy killer. Lynn Cahoon entertains with an interesting story. I enjoy this cozy series!!

South Cove is raising funds for the Preservation Society and is sponsoring a 5K run. The day of the race a runner steps on a dead body at the race. The run is completed and Jill and Greg vacation's are cancelled. Jill promises to stay out of the investigation; however Jill's curiosity gets in the way. Jill takes her vacation time and upgrades her 3rd floor. A light relaxing read that you can finished on a stormy wet day.

Another solid entry in the Tourist Trap series.

Things are looking great for Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books and More, as she prepares to go on a cruise with her detective boyfriend, Greg King. First, the small town of South Cove is participating in a 5K race. However, when the promoter of the event turns up dead, the trip is put on hold as Greg tries to find a killer.
As Greg investigates the murder, one of Jill’s fellow shop owners is the victim of vandalism and seeks Jill’s help in finding out who could be doing this. She has no idea that this crime is much more dangerous than she thought. Her life is on the line as murder and vandalism mix for a deadly outcome.
This is the fifth book in the series and I’ve enjoyed them all. With each book I become more and more attached to these characters. I feel like they are old friends that I’ve come to care about. The storyline is fast-paced. I practically devoured it. There are quite a few twists and turns along the way. I’m a huge fan of Lynn Cahoon’s cozy mysteries. This one did not disappoint. In fact, it’s the best one yet.

I typically enjoy this series of cozy mysteries, but this one was just weak and I ran through it like water. The plot was so thin that I identified both the victim and killer before there was a murder. Therefore, I'm not going to go into the plot line except to say that Jill and company are planning a 5K run in the town on behalf of the foundation that runs the states historical society for old missions. We've been waiting since Book #1 to find out if the wall in Jill's back yard is part of an old mission and will become a historic landmark. There is a body found along the run course and Jill can't help but gather Aunt Jackie and start asking questions. Their eventual distress leads to the conclusion of the book and the solution to the murder puzzle.
I think this plot could have worked better, but the characters themselves are becoming stale and one dimensional. Jill has been involved in a relationship with Greg, the local cop for over a year and it hasn't progressed beyond a chaste kiss at the door and the occasional toe tingler in the kitchen. I'm not looking for 50 Shades, but this is boring. She's been married before, is a lawyer and still doesn't know how to run the "business" of her own business. Jill and Greg bicker over the same issue in every book. Part of the charm of cozy books is the charm and stories of all the characters in the community. That is lacking in this book. Last book featured a bit on Toby's new and growing relationship with a single parent, but it wasn't mentioned at all in this book. Same with Darla's new beau. The lack of participation in the monthly town meeting is always bemoaned and never changes. Jill's friendship with Amy seems to have fallen away, as Amy was barely mentioned yet a previous book was all about Amy's disappearance. There was a side story started involving Aunt Julia, her beau and health issues, but it just died off (no pun intended).
As I've enjoyed this series, I will read the next book, but unless it improves, that will probably be my last trip to the Cove.

When I read the first book in this series, I knew it was going to do well. But I didn’t come close to conceiving what a runaway hit it would be!
I really enjoy the characters in the Tourist Trap series. They’re not perfect. Not even series lead Jill Gardner. They all have flaws. Some of them are aware of them and some aren’t. You can’t get any more real life than that.
I have to say, I was happy to see the victim in KILLER RUN murdered. LOL Harsh I know, but I didn’t like her at all. As far as victims in mysteries go, she had it coming.
Author Lynn Cahoon has smooth and easy writing style that made me want to keep turning page after page. This story had plenty of twists, turns, ups and down to keep me guessing. And once the killer was revealed, I was holding my breath through the excitement. A very action packed scene indeed. Without giving anything away, if I had been Jill, I may have murdered Aunt Jackie during this scene. ;-) It would have been easy enough to get away with.

This is book 5 in the Tourist Trap Mystery series featuring the main character and bookshop owner Jill. Jill is in a relationship with Greg who is a detective which really comes in handy! In this book Jill is sponsoring a 5k mission run in aid of getting some funds for the preservation society. The story takes a dark twist when on the day if the race a dead body is found , but that is not the only crime in this small community!
I love Jill's relationships with her aunt and Greg ,their scenes together are sweet,plus the constant mention of delicious foods too makes this irristable !
I love the small town feel to this series where you never know who can do unthinkable things when pushed , add plenty of red herrings to that and it makes a great fun mystery!

3.75 stars. I admit that I enjoy this series and the mysteries are pretty good but I am getting a bit tired of the repeated format of Jill interfering in the investigations and her cop boyfriend Greg telling her to butt out. If he liked her interference and appreciated her help, it would be better. It’s not realistic to have him keep getting frustrated with her and yet she keeps investigating on her own. Over and over again.

Another solid book in the Tourist Trap series! Aunt Jackie features prominently in this story, encouraging bookstore-coffeeshop owner/protagonist Jill to investigate the two mysteries in town. In her personal life, Jill has a vacation planned with her detective boyfriend Greg, but will he actually be able to get away from his demanding job so they can finally spend some quality time together? I love that there are several storylines in this book, involving ongoing relationships and local businesses. The story moves at a good pace, with surprises and twists and several suspects. Can't wait to read book #6!

The characters, in particular Jill and her aunt Jackie, are starting to get annoying. Jill is a busybody and has virtually no backbone - she stands up to NO ONE. She was a lawyer before she opened the shop? Really? She wouldn't be my lawyer! She lets people walk all over her.
And her aunt is just cranky! She makes nasty, mean-spirited comments to Jill ... even though Jill owns the store and is therefore her boss!
I can understand why Lille doesn't like them and I'm starting to like her more and more. Lille's far from being my favorite character but she's growing on me.
When will Greg put his foot down and tell Jill to mind her own business and MEAN IT? Will they break up, temporarily at least, because she's such a busybody?
Orrrrr does Greg start asking for her help? I'd like that much better!
In the beginning of the series I liked Jill, I was rooting for her, but not so much anymore.
(I get it, Jill being a busybody drives the series but now she's just being annoying. She's a wuss! There has got to be a way to make her a more likable, more mature character while keeping her involved in solving mysteries.)
I'll read one more book in the series but if Jill doesn't grow up a bit and show some backbone, it'll probably be the last installment for me.

Are they 16 year-old kids with their first crush or are they mature adults, both of whom have been previously married?
So the author doesn't want to go into all the details. That's cool! I'm OK with that. I don't think that would fit in with the vibe of the series. But there are other ways to imply that they have a mature, adult, physical relationship.
This is just one more example that shows the immaturity of these characters. They're really pretty shallow.

Killer Run is book 5 in the Tourist Trap Mystery series. Bookstore owner Jill is talked into sponsoring a 5k run to benefit the preservation society who is dragging their feet in declaring the old mission ruins in Jill's backyard as a bonafide Spanish Mission site. One of the race's promoters is found dead during the race, and Jill (with sidekick Aunt Jackie) race to solve the murder and the vandalism at another of South Cove's businesses.
I really enjoyed the book. It was nice to see more of Aunt Jackie drawn into the story and fleshed out more of her character.I'm wondering what the next book will hold with all the foreshadowing on Jackie's health. I also enjoyed Sasha's teasing of Toby. How long until they get set up together? Next book's a good bet. I'm hoping for some more character development going forward with Toby (and Greg for that matter)
As for the plot, there were two crimes for Jill to solve, the murder of the race promoter, and the vandalism at the train shop. The Josh-capade of finding the victim was pretty funny, I had a pretty good mental picture of it in my head. I did feel that there wasn't enough time getting to know the victim, who is in the book for only a short scene before turning up dead, and even the suspects don't have much in the way of character development. Without knowing anything about the victim, I didn't have a good feel for who the suspects were and why, which means I wasn't as engaged with it as I was in previous books. However, the plot was The plot was very good though, lots of twists and there were a couple of red herrings that made me question who I thought was involved with the crimes and they were done very well.
Overall, another enjoyable entry in the Tourist Trap series and looking forward to many more.

I've been reading this series since it began and I've always enjoyed them though the last was a little flatter. I was very pleased that when I started this one I was immediately drawn into the book and I loved catching up with Jill and everyone else.
I really enjoyed the interaction of the town and seeing the race get organized. I wasn't surprised by who got murdered and I wasn't surprised by who did it but I did very much enjoy getting from the point of body discovery to the reveal. There's a subplot involving a train store that I thought could have had a bit more page time especially since that's what Jill was supposed to be investigating.
I thought the book really shone with the development of characters and relationships. I liked seeing Jill struggle with Greg's work schedule and it's effects on their vacation plans. It felt real and I liked that Jill wasn't 100% okay about it all. I also liked seeing the occasional flash of Jackie's tender side. Her personality can be so abrasive that it was really nice to see the feelings underneath. I also thought Sasha really came into her own and of course I always love seeing Toby!
Overall, I found this to be an enjoyable mystery with characters I enjoy visiting with. This is a series best read from the beginning as you get to see the relationships develop. The teaser Cahoon drops at the end regarding the next book has me very glad I don't have to wait to long! Can't wait to see what trouble Jill gets into next!

another great installment in this series. I will say that I sort of guessed who the killer was but just because this character was annoying to me. If only the rest of life was like that!
Jill and Greg are all set to head off on an Alaskan cruise when a murder occurs just days before they leave. Of course with this being a small town, Greg has to stay and figure out what happened. Jill takes this week to work on the house she inherited in the first book and of course investigate on her own what happened and who killed Sandra.
As always, the characters are enjoyable and in this one Aunt Jackie is a bit cranky, perhaps feeling her age and questioning things? I love Emma, but then I am a dog lover and enjoy books that include dogs. I do think that Sadie's love life and what happens at the end leaves it wide open for the next book to explore this situation. Yes I know, vague but have to be to not give away too much!

Great Series!
This is a great series; this is the fifth book in the A Tourist Trap Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. This book can be read as a standalone, but once you read this one you will want to go back and read the others. Jill Gardner is the owner of Coffee, Books, and More and has been talked into sponsoring a 5k race. The day of the race everyone is running around when a local business owner stumbles over a dead body. The woman killed is the nasty wife of the man who hired them for the event. Now he is asking Jill to help clear his name and find the real killer. If you are looking for a great mystery that will leave you guessing until the end, then you need read this book. I can’t wait until the next book in this series comes out.

This was the best mystery yet in the series! The characters are getting stronger with each book and the plots even more layered and interesting. Jill gets drawn into a couple of local investigations based on her previous rep for finding the truth which also makes her a target.

Again Lynn Cahoon has given me a great read and a perfect way to spend a forced day down unable to do much around the house. And that made me quite happy.
At the end of the previous book Jill had been asked to host the Mission Walk/Run. Jill and Darla meet the battling PR couple Sandra and Michael Ashford . And Jill and Greg have an Alaskan cruise planned and everything seems to be on track for that but I knew better. I mean where would the fun be if it went off without a hitch.
Big surprise, is the fact that Aunt Jackie actually got Josh to agree to go on the walk, and to be one of the pre-walkers to set the time. Will wonders never cease. The walk/Run goes along without a hitch until the body turns up. I won't go into details except to say that the finding of the body had me laughing and I still have a visual picture of it in my mind and it still brings a chuckle to my lips.
Now the finding of the body of course puts a hold on Jill and Greg's cruise but their travel agent Rachael said she might be able to get at least a partial refund and keep in touch.
With the cruise off, and a weeks' vacation already planned Jill takes on remodeling her guest room.
Then Aunt Jackie has to face her own demons when Josh falls ill and is taken to the hospital. Jill decides to involve Jackie in finding out about the PR firm and the two get into trouble with Greg.
Also is another round of vandalism happening in town. This time only Harrold's train store is targeted and it has happened 3 days in a row. Why would someone want to target Harrold? Could it be Lille who wants to expand her diner? We also find out that both Jill and Lille are in a bidding war to buy a food truck and when a third person buys it, we find out more about the relationship between Sadie and Dustin Austin.
This book is fun and took me again to South Cove and friends. It is an easy read, I finished it in 1 day. Of course I hated it to end. The new characters had a wonderful presence and the main characters are really taking on lives of their own. And the descriptions of the beaches, stores, displays etc. were right there in front of me.
As anyone reading this has noticed I didn't say who the victim was. I did that because I did have victim, motive, and murderer all figured out when the person was introduced into the story. So I thought I wouldn't ruin it for anyone else and discourage anyone from reading a delightful story.
Of course the same editor and proof reader is around so this keeps the rating from being a 5. And wainscoting around the ceiling? Was it supposed to be crown molding? Oh well, on to the next book. I enjoy this series.

Why did I pick this book ? I liked the cover, I hadn’t read a cozy mystery for a very long time and several bloggers made me want to get back to them, it took place in a small town similar to Jessica Fletcher’s Cabot Cove and especially in a bookstore ! And there was a dog.
I must warn you I didn’t read the previous books in the series, but I quickly caught up without problem.
So what went wrong ? I guessed very early who the killer was, but it wouldn’t have mattered much if the characters had made it up for me or if the story had been interesting in other ways. Remember Lilian Jackson Braun’s Jim Qwilleran and his cats ? You can’t say her novels have plenty of action, on the contrary, but the characters and side stories told always grabbed my attention. I would have liked to go visit Moose county ! This town ? So many people are rude ! And the story was flat, I was tempted to put the book down several times.
Jill was a lawyer yet she doesn’t know a thing about running her shop and isn’t curious to find out about that. If it weren’t for her aunt, I guess she’d go bankrupt in the blink of an eye.
She has a boyfriend, Greg, the sherif, who is such a stereotypical good guy that he lacks personality. Jill keeps doing things behind his back and even tells his deputy what information should reach him ! They’re supposed to be a couple but they just kiss at the door, nothing more.
The aunt is annoying. Efficient, but annoying.
Lille, who runs the local diner, is constantly mad at people, I can’t imagine how she keeps her clientele.
Neighbors are all nosy – and Jill is nosy ! She knows Lille has a temper but keeps asking her why this and why that (things that are none of her business), it’s rude.
The side characters have nothing remarkable, I was just afraid that something would happen to old Harrold.
So, you know now why I rated this book that way. I really wanted to like it, I did ! I love small town settings, cozy mysteries, historical notes, dogs, good side characters – and the fact that Jill was renovating her house. I love house renovating ! I would love to have a house to renovate and run the antiques shops, but I simply couldn’t be interested in what she did (and I thought she was doing several things wrong). Anyway, I was disappointed, it had the ingredients to be something more but didn’t live up to it.

Jill Gardner, bookshop owner and amateur sleuth, returns in this fifth Tourist Trap installment. I’ve read and enjoyed each previous Tourist Trap novel but this mystery fell flat. Can a mystery be too solvable? I felt this one was obvious—the motive and the actual killer from early on in the plot. While I can forgive a solvable mystery (what reader doesn’t like to feel smart?), I cannot forgive the lack of action and absence of character development.
By the fifth installment of a series, readers are invested in the characters. My major complaint with this novel is the same as the last, Jill’s relationship. Greg and Jill are a couple. Yay! Their relationship has survived psycho ex-girlfriends, home improvement projects, and murderous acquaintances. Yay! They are planning a vacation together! Yay! Yet, their relationship doesn’t ever seem to progress past casual dinners, cheesecake dates, and delicious kissing.
At one point Jill mentioned marriage and I was shocked! The couple seems more like close friends than lovers. I am not asking for vulgar sex scenes but the continual G relationship seems beyond unrealistic, even for a cozy, and is unsatisfying for this reader. I love romance in a cozy! Give us romance! Not just guilt for sneaking around, repeat arguments between the two about the sleuthing, and hugs of forgiveness. If Greg and Jill are in love, let them be in love and spend more time together. The novel would have been less flat for me, even with an identical mystery, if the romance was turned up a couple notches.
I don’t want to give up the Tourist Trap novels. I enjoy the setting and the characters. I recommend Guidebook to Murder quite often but I am not a fan of this installment. I will stick with it for number six...here’s hoping for true character development and an interesting mystery.

This is the 5th book in Lynn’s popular Tourist Trap Mysteries.
Set in South Cove Ca. the series follows Jill, a former divorce attorney, who is now living her dream in her own little shop, Coffee, Books and More. With the help of her fascinating Aunt Jackie things may get a little crazy. Jill’s boyfriend Greg who is a detective for the P.D. does try to rein both Jill and Jackie in.
Jill has a bad habit of not being able to mind her own business. Every case that Greg is assigned, Jill is right there with her offers of help and her ideas of what should be done. When Greg had to cancel the cruise they were to go on, due to a murder in town, Jill was right there to help investigate, even though she had promised not to.
What ensues is a wonderful romp through South Cove, thanks to Jill and Jackie, and of course Lynn.

With the help of her fascinating Aunt Jackie things may get a little crazy. Jill’s boyfriend Greg who is a detective for the P.D. does try to rein both Jill and Jackie in.
Jill has a bad habit of not being able to mind her own business. Every case that Greg is assigned, Jill is right there with her offers of help and her ideas of what should be done. When Greg had to cancel the cruise they were to go on, due to a murder in town, Jill was right there to help investigate, even though she had promised not to.
What ensues is a wonderful romp through South Cove, thanks to Jill and Jackie, and of course Lynn.
