It had some ideas I’d not thought to try before. I’ll certainly be giving the Brunswick Stew recipe a try as it’s one of my favorite stews and this one looks easier than many recipes for it I’ve found. Otherwise it’s many of the same recipes or versions of them I grew up with. So great book if you haven’t got a lot of experience with a crockpot, but a little old hat for those of us that rely on them. Huge bonus points for not being full of canned cream of types of ingredients.
We didn't put a cooling system into our hew house, so I'm looking for ways to cook that don't heat up the kitchen in the summer.
So far I've tried the risotto, which turned out amazing, and the polenta, which had way too much liquid. I'll try adjusting the polenta recipe next time. It's nice to be able to make these kinds of dishes without having to babysit them on the stove :)
I noticed that quite a few recipes require using the broiler before putting the food in the slow cooker, so those recipes won't work for keeping the house cool. I decided to buy this because it has a lot of fish recipes. Other slow cooker cookbooks tend to not have as many.
This book serves as a good introduction to slow cooking, and I really liked the author's writing style. However, the recipes were not of particular interest to me, and the lack of pictures supporting each recipe represents a big downfall in my opinion.
