Being human, my life at Silver Oaks isn't quite a fairytale. This is a school for fae refugees, and I'm not one. Instead, I'm going to be a knight in shining armor - wielding the one thing none of them want to be iron.
I'm just not very good at being a hero. My magic is dangerous to the fae. My cool new powers include doing all the things they can't, and yet somehow I'm supposed to be their champion? Sadly, this whole thing doesn't come with a manual. But that's ok. I'm not good at following directions anyway.
So I'm making it up as I go, which basically means protecting my friends. It doesn't matter if that's from rumors which cut deep, magical malfunctions, or the nuances of seasonal politics. I'm going to figure this stuff out, because I finally found where I belong - the one place where being all wrong makes me just right.
I may have started out in the ashes of burned bridges, but love is driving me. The kind I have for my new-found family, my friends, and the pretty pixie who is so much more than my best friend. The best part is that instead of some fairy godmother, I ended up with a kick-ass crow.
Together, we will make monsters into Prince Charmings. And when the spell wears off, I might actually find my own happily ever after - or die trying.
~ *Pixie Problems is book 2 in the projected 6 book An Accidental Fairy Tale series.
After reading so many reviews saying this series was awesome, I can say with absolute certainty that it isn’t. It’s so poorly written. I absolutely hate when the author doesn’t bother to keep track of what the protagonist knows. Rain spends so much time being amazed & shocked & intrigued & dumbfounded by information that she literally learned in the last chapter & she was thankful to learn it but conveniently forgot so she can be “cute” & “interesting” to the other characters. It’s just that it’s hard to get into the book. Slow moving, repetitive & assuming that the reader is an idiot. We are not. Then again, based upon the reviews, maybe the people who read A. H. Hadley books are. FFS write a book with an actual coherent plot.
Repetitive dialogue to the point of annoyance. There is something missing in this series that makes it painful to read. I am not able to connect or "fall into the story" as I usually do with great writers such as A.H. Hadley. This book however is missing her talent and it being "told" instead of feeling the story come alive through the characters. It's almost like they didn't write it - but a ghost rider did and missed how she can bring characters and storylines alive. There is just so much teenager angst and drama with too much dialogue, and I wonder if this book is for adults at all - maybe it has been written for young adults? Not sure, but both book 1 and book 2 have been painful books to read. I'm on the fence about bothering to read anymore books in this series.
Writing level-4.25* Personal enjoyment-3* This series just isn’t for me. I love AH’s work and the main plot with the Morrigan and Fae has me intrigued. But this is too much of a young adult/sexual awakening plot line for it to hold my attention. I have truly enjoyed several YA novels/series for many years, so it’s not necessarily that which I’m not finding enjoyment with. I guess it’s that the point she’s making with the characters seems kinda beaten to death… I have zero issue with the points and have enjoyed them in her other series. It just seems too repetitive in this one for my personal enjoyment. Just feels like it’s the same high school drama happening again and again. I didn’t feel this way as much with the first book. I may finish the series but I’m hoping it’ll steer more towards the plot and not the character high school drama.
This book was a magical mess that felt like someone took Riverdale, and threw in a crow just to make it edgy. Seriously, every chapter had that bird popping up with cryptic monosyllabic nonsense like it was auditioning for a role in Twin Peaks but forgot its lines. It was so bad I could not concentrate in the story.
The FMC, Rain, spent the entire book clueless, and when your main character doesn’t even know what’s going on, how are we supposed to follow? Spoiler: we don’t. It felt like the author left half the explanations in her head and said, “Eh, they’ll figure it out.” Well, we didn’t.
The moral dilemmas were repetitive and exhausting. The book fixated on the death of a semi-rapist (why were we giving this guy chapters of sympathy again?) and we were force-fed multiple pages upon pages of repetitive moralizing about how no one deserves to die that way and spun it into endless rants about war, tragedy, and discrimination. Sure, those are important themes, but the execution was like a lecture on repeat with no new insights. We got it the first time. It didn’t need to drag on endlessly.
Now, let’s talk relationships. The whole “open relationship” and “anti-commitment” vibe was less progressive and more like a dumpster fire. Communication was on permanent vacation, trust was non-existent, and the characters were just bouncing around in a drama loop. That resulted in everything staying on the surface—no depth, no payoff, just chaotic, flimsy excuses for conflict.
Tor, the central drama king, deserves his own paragraph of critique. He’s basically the magical equivalent of a dude yelling “BRO I'M SPECIALLLL” in all caps. Obsessive, loud, and completely over the top, his fixation on his sister (Rain’s girlfriend, mind you) turned this book into a melodrama that even Riverdale would reject. I mean! he felt like Eminem in his screaming era—every conversation was a fight, every line punctuated by an exclamation point. And his obsessive fixation on his sister turned two entire books into a toxic, never-ending drama. When the big secret finally came out (spoiler: it wasn’t even a secret), it was so painfully obvious that it made all the buildup feel laughable. This "secret" hovered over the plot for so long, I expected something amazing, maybe even innovative... but it was so obvious it hurt—everyone saw it coming
Rain, bless her, was supposed to be the protagonist, but she barely held that role together. Keir (her boyfriend this time), however, completely stole the show. Grounded, thoughtful, and genuinely interesting, he brought much-needed balance to the chaos. So let’s face it: Rain wasn’t the real protagonist—that title belonged to Keir. As the calm amidst the turmoil, he stood out with his insecurities and depth while still making sense in a story that often didn’t.
However, I truly doubt that was the intention. Maybe the idea was that everyone could be the main character in their own way, but it didn’t feel like that at all. The story focused so heavily on two perspectives—Rain and Keir—that the “everyone’s a protagonist” angle just didn’t make sense. The execution fell flat and left little room for any broader narrative balance. Instead of feeling intentional, it came off as muddled and inconsistent, failing to deliver a clear or compelling point.
Ultimately, the lack of focus, incessant rambling, lack of editing, and excessive wording, paired with conversations that didn’t add to the plot, made it really hard to enjoy. Because this wasn’t a cozy story where we could have endless ramble about the mundane—it was about fae, magic, and wars. The filler dialogue was so frustrating—those conversations amounted to absolutely nothing. There was this everlasting feeling, like the story took one step forward and a hundred steps back. For example, entire CHAPTERS would be spent resolving some drama, only for the same issue to resurface two chapters later like a recurring cancer. It made the story hard to engage with, and I can’t recommend it. It was not worth the time.
Having absolutely adored the Authors previous books, regardless of which Genre she is concentrating on, and having devoured the first book in this series I couldn’t wait to dive into this one! No seriously, I had reminders galore on my phone for this! And I am so glad I did.
One of the things I love about the Author is that she consistently writes stories about found family. The characters aren’t perfect, but although there is romance in the story that is not the sole focus, instead it is about the Character growth, building their friendship and relationships and figuring out who they are. It isn’t perfect, they make mistakes, things happen and things are worked through.
Then for the fantasy side. I love how each world this Author makes feels so unique! Even when delving into ideas that have been around for a long time, this Author makes them her own. The world has it’s own twist to traditional ideas, and the story moves and twists in unexpected ways from start to end!
I previously read her other newest release and that took place as my new favourite. Sorry Wyverns Gold… you’re being replaced. I’m fickle with this Author, every new book bumps the last favourite down a bit because I just love them so much! But, I think that Jack is going to hold the top spot for a while, because as a familiar (kind of) and a side Character, Jack is awesome 🤩 I need a crow in my life.
I absolutely adored the twists and changes in this one, and seeing the group as a whole grow and build their various relationships, with so many surprises along the way!! Jack has had me laughing throughout, and I have to say I outright cackled at one of his new words! GO JACK!
I had a couple of theories about a couple of the characters, and as always… I wasn’t wrong, but I absolutely was NOT correct either. Dang it Auryn, one day I will be right!
This story was so much fun to read, action scenes and intrigue, and an ending that had me like “ARGH!! What do you mean no pages left?!”. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I do really like the cast of characters and the world building of this book. I like how Rain thrives among the far despite being human.
I think thorian is an asshole and honestly just the worst. He lashes out at everyone else and they all just kind of let him away with it because he’s special and has so much power. He judges Rain for not having mastered her Morrigan powers when she had them for about 5 seconds yet he is unable to control his powers when he has had them far longer.
I also feel like rains dad’s not fighting for her to know the truth is a betrayal in a way. Don’t get me wrong I think they are cute the way they all come together when they adopt her but they leave her in the dark for so much. They don’t tell her about the things that affect her.
I felt like this book dragged a bit in the beginning and middle. The book is overly analysing all the relationships instead of letting them happen. Like can they just get together already!!! (Except Thorian. I hope he ends up alone)
The reveals at the end of the book were all a bit obvious. Like duh the guy who’s eyes have been going wierd for the last 2 books is obviously this wilding vampire monster with wings. Oh the child of the mad queen and then winter king is obviously the guy who’s had both summer and winter magic. And the girl who’s has extremely powerful winter magic and is the half sister of the guy with 2 types of magic is clearly the winter princess/queen 👑❄️
I felt like rain was super oblivious not to figure it out and the plot dragged because of this. Let’s hope the next book moves things along in the plot and the romance
Again, this series is somehow so feel-good and sweet, even in places where the characters are struggling mentally and emotionally.
This book really upped the stakes from the last one and also gave almost all of the main characters a lot of growth. I'm starting to love a few specific people even more, with the more depth we've been shown now. I'm looking forward to seeing if that same depth will be added to a couple of other characters in the next book.
I'm a bit conflicted about the fact that a large part of the plot and internal conflict of this book is simply held together by an unbreakable promise made to the headmistress. That being said, I can see why it needed to be that way, why it was necessary for the growth of... Everyone. It just gave me a similar frustrated feeling as miscommunication trope sometimes does.
Lots of back n forth about feelings and being reassured that it’s the fae way to share hence why I rated it 4 stars. Otherwise the plot was good. I loved Jack, he was the perfect cherry on top of a tasty sundae. I enjoyed reading about the 2 hunts and how every one of the main characters was out there to fight. There was a lot of secret keeping, and lots of far politics that were talked about like it was common knowledge, even though it wasn’t to the reader so I felt a bit lost in a few chapters. I’m glad that Aspen the girlfriend of the Morragian hit her birthday and the secret was out. She’s the Heir to the Crown that the usurper stole, Torians birth mother. It’s about to become chaotic I think. Can’t wait!
I would like the romance to be a little more prominent. It's more fantasy, which is fine, but with it being a RH it should just be a bit more obvious and abundant. I do think this is done in part due to the FMC's age. I wasn't a fan of the first half of this book at all. There was a lot of repetition going on of facts, and a lot of the things Rain was asking about it felt like she should have already known at this point. Also where is the family time that Bracken and Rain made a deal to make sure they had at least once a week? There was nothing written in the plot of the story to show those moments, and with how much I rejoiced about the adoption I feel like this should have at least been written in once or twice.
This is the 2nd book in the An Accidental Fairy Tale series and it just gets better!
Rain gets her family and the journey she and they go through during this book is fantastic. There are twists and turns that make you just want to keep reading.
We find out more about some characters and I really enjoyed seeing this. As usual Jack is the best!!
I love how there are hooks for the next book but there isn’t a cliffhanger.
I highly recommend reading this series but if your new definitely start with book 1. I am so looking forward to the next book!
I have to qualify this review by saying this author doesn’t write bad books but this specific series just isn’t doing it for me. I want to say because the characters are in high school, the drama is childish and trivial. I was bored, not really engaged and not quick to finish. The book dragged and skirted around the obvious. Auryn will always be inclusive and I love that! I like the found family element but they jumped into the father daughter thing too quick for me. Torian was unbearable. Even the plot twist explaining the reason, I don’t care.
I will assume that in the next book, the characters will all be adults and things will turn up a notch.
I was really excited for this book. We just found out what about Rain makes her special, she is the Morrigan.
Unfortuneatly for me, this book was not very exciting. The entire book was FULL of relationship drama.. like the ENTIRE thing. Sure there was a bit of story sprinkled here and there but nothing really happened until the last couple of chapters. The worst part is, with all the hints and careful wording I had already figured out the big secret.
I will probably read book 3, but I am not excited about it anymore. The story has turned into a who's dating /kissing who... very big let down for me.
Best slow burn "we'll get passed kissing someday" magical school series I've read yet.
The stakes are only rizing in this 2nd book. There was some "suddenly protagonist is being stupid" plot contriving but by the end it feels due to what is far closer to the heros psychological trauma than bad plot/ wrighting. The book actually is written very well and I wasn't expecting the addition of the a m mc viewpoint but it's working so far. The Wild Hunt returns with a vengeance and the Court must overcome its own internal strife and secrets kept in order to servive the new semester.
loved the overall storyline and fantasy world that Auryn has created, and I did finish the book, but oh my goodness it is repetitive in dialog. And none of the characters had a unique voice. They constantly said phrases like “See, that’s the thing!” over and over. Wasn’t expecting FF but didn’t mind it. Have read other books of Auryn’s and they were amazing, so it’s kind of perplexing to see how the writing has deteriorated. Definitely could be cleaned up and has potential for 5 stars, but not there yet.
Wow. So much happened in this book. And by the end we finally have some answers. You can guess what they are ;) There’s so much school drama. But just because you don’t like someone should not mean you should call the wild hunt on them. Especially since it endangers others. With perspectives from both Rain and Keir you really get into the court drama. I love that Bracken and Liam have adopted Rain. It’s always nice when you finally feel wanted and loved. Same can be said about the growing relationships in the court.
As usual this author delivers. This is definately a second book in a series, while the first book introduced us to this world to both Rain, this book focused a lot on character growth. It really pushed the characters to define their path and what there meant to do. While this book may have not been as strong as the original introduction into the world, I still felt immersed into the lives of theses charachters. It also makes me very interested in for where this series is going go in the future. Many questions were answered and more were asked. I look forward to continuing with this series.
I will honestly never tire of this author! All of her characters just make my heart happy, and there hasn’t been a single book she’s written that I haven’t devoured in haste.
Sure it’s mostly the same character dynamics with different abilities and worlds, but that’s what I love so much about them. They feel like coming home.
Bravo on another lovely addition to this series! I’m so excited for more!
I’m really enjoying the twists and turns in the well developed plot of this story. There is romance but it’s a slllooooow burn and that’s ok. Remember most of these kids are in high school and the fae kids will live hundreds of year. Especially like how Jack’s character keeps developing and finding his place. At least he gets more words than Groot!
The only thing the characters did was talk about their feelings. I felt like I was in a therapy session. Not much happened in this book and when something did happen, they would have a therapy session to talk about what happened. Halfway through the book, I stopped caring about the promises they made to each other, their powers and the feelings they had for each other cause i know that would lead to another therapy session!!!
This series has me not wanting to put my book down. Seriously! The twists and turns of discovering who you are and who you should be, while learning it’s ok to love someone you are taught you shouldn’t. Finding yourself in the midst of chaos is how we rise and this book shows it! Rain shows it in her ability to still be young but wise beyond her years! Ready for the next one!
Torian really annoyed me in this book. Almost to the extent of him becoming irredeemable. It has not happened but it was close. The 'secret' also annoyed rather than kept me wondering. Maybe too many hints was the issue for me? Other than that I enjoyed it but for those reasons I did not read the whole book in a couple of nights as I usually do, it took more than a week.
Ugh! I got fooled! I thought this was a 2 book series, only to finish the book and find out there's ANOTHER ONE!! I'm not mad, trust me I've grown attached to Rain and her Court, but damn I don't want to wait for another book!! Ugh!! Waiting patiently for the next book!!!
I love Auryn Hadley's books, but her A.H. Hadley books may be even better. The romance and found family is still there, but the worlds she builds are all engrossing.
If you like excellent world building and characters you can love...read the book.
Ms. Hadley's worlds never fail to draw you in until you're up for hours on end, binging the entire series and then being lost and without a clue what to read next when the end of the series arrives!! Nothing but more of her worlds fills that gap and, of course, this series is jist like that!
As always I am sucked right into the story. Hadley has a way with making me love or hate a character with a fiery passion. I really love Rain and the struggles of juggling everything! Can’t wait for the next book!
As always, I'm enamored with the world Auryn creates. I am totally in love with these characters and the development of their characters. Book 3 can't come fast enough.💖💖💖
I enjoyed this story and the characters were well written. The world building is intriguing. Its definitely dramatic with the teenagers. Overall storyline is pretty good.
Yep I’m well invested in this series now, and am going to be impatiently waiting for the next installment. Things develops nicely in this book, with some of my suspicions proving accurate. Definitely recommend starting this series.
The patient wait for the next book to come out. The deep embrace of the on going story and then the wrench as you finish the book and return to mundane life!
Wonderfully rich characters and a great story. I'm loving this series.
