A cute rhyming book with some unexpected twists. My kids love another book by this author (Billy Bloo, which is an enduring favorite around here), so I was happy to find a second story by her for our collection.

A wonderful word and picture book to teach young ones about rhyming and learning new words. This could easily be the "first" book a young boy or girl "learns" to read. I can imagine them reading the book to others when they have memorized it. Great work. Keep up the good work. I received a review copy of this book from Goodreads.

A monkey and a duck decide to participate in a poetry contest and win the contest to go on a cruise. The problem is that the duck only says the word “quack”. It is difficult for the monkey to make a rhyme scheme with the duck. In the end, they learned how to make it work and win the contest. There is a plot twist of the duck at the end of the story.
This is a rhyming story book which encourages readers to guess the last word in order to follow the rhyme scheme. I am not good at composing poetry, but I love to read compositions in the pattern of rhymed words. This book could be used to open a poetry session in an elementary class. Moreover, this story makes readers contemplate on how to solve this conflict in daily practices. For instance, if classmates are not good at English, it does not mean that they should be excluded from these activities. This book encourages me to think that there are possible ways to solve problems without hurting others’ feelings when encountering problems. Good job to the monkey and the duck!

Working with a friend to win a contest can be fun, but sometimes there are bumps along the way. This fun picture book tells the story of Monkey and Duck who enter a rhyming contest that has a grand prize of a three-day cruise. Monkey is sure they have what it takes to win, but he becomes frustrated when all Duck will ever say is "Quack". Young readers will giggle as Monkey comes up with all sorts of clever rhymes to which Duck says only one thing - "Quack". This would be a fun read aloud, especially as little kids will want to help rhyme along. It also has a surprise ending that will make everyone smile.

Cute, colorful illustrations. This is a funny story about a monkey and duck trying to win a poetry contest. Duck won't help monkey and only says, "Quack." There is a nice twist at the end. Kids will help tell the story as it becomes predictable. Great read-aloud. Highly recommended for elementary.

Monkey wants to compete in a poetry contest with his best friend Duck. He writes lots of rhyming poems, but instead on finishing the rhymes, duck just says quack. Monkey ingeniously writes a new poem that rhymes with quack, and the pair win the contest. The surprise ending will have you laughing out loud!

I must have read this book a thousand time because it’s the only book my daughter wants to hear. I made rap songs out of it and memorized the words! I love getting my daughter involved so she can say Quack every time! Jennifer is our favorite author right now! My daughter is addicted to her books!

Monkey wants to win a rhyming contest, but all duck can say is “Quack.” How will this hilarious duo solve their dilemma? Try not to “quack” up reading this one.

Cute and clever book about a monkey and his buddy who want to win a rhyming contest so they can go on a cruise. Duck is less than helpful, but comes through in the end. Great for teaching rhyming.

Monkey and Duck Quack Up! is a crack up of rhyme for young children with a punch line at the end. This is the new favorite book in the preschool classroom and a great way to teach the sounds of our language to young children and have fun with a beautifully illustrated children's book.

I want to thank my mom for the gift of Monkey and Duck Quack Up! and the author Jennifer Hamburg and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for giving mom the opportunity to win our copy of this great children's book.

Monkey enters a rhyming where the winner gets gets a three day cruise. Monkey enlists the assistance of Duck to come up with a winning rhyme. One problem is that Duck says "quack" which frustrates Monkey to no end. Finally, Monkey decides to discover words that rhymes with "quack". They win and get the three day cruse however Duck reveals a surprise at the end.

This book is great for grades Pre-K thru 2nd and children ages 3 thru 7. It teaches rhyming and to keep trying even though it is difficult. It would be an excellent book for any lesson on rhyming.

I won this book in a goodreads.com giveaway...thank you.
This book is an adorable rhyming book that centers around a monkey, duck, contest, and a cruise. The illustrations are very cute and the story is a lot of fun to read. My grand-daughter Anna LOVES this book and whenever I read it to her she smiles and says "Again" so I read it again and I'm happy to do so. I highly recommend this book and it's also a terrific addition to your child's library.

Bright digital illustrations complement this rhyming story of friendship and being true to oneself. When Monkey sees a flyer for a rhyming context, he is sure that he and Duck just cannot lose. Monkey is quite deft with his rhymes, but all Duck can say is "Quack." Everything works out just fine, though, since Monkey builds his rhymes around that sound. Youngsters will smile at the surprise ending.

I was looking for something new to mix into my annual "quack it up" duck storytime, and this delightful book about a monkey and duck trying to win a rhyme contest was added to the library collection just in time. Lots of chances to guess rhymes--which supports phonological awareness, the ability to hear those smaller sounds in words. And lots of chances to just quack, which add to the total ducky silliness of the program.

Update: This week a teen volunteer and I read it with my taking Monkey's part and her taking Duck's. She had a duck puppet. The class of mixed 3-10 year old loved it. They were yelling the rhyming words at Duck, who just blinked and quacked back- until the last page.

Although my daughter is older and reads at a higher level, she originally wanted to give this book to her 1 year old cousin. When it came in she wanted to read and review it. The wording was so clever and amusing she wants to keep it a bit longer. She asked me to order another copy for her cousin. Adorable book!
