"Pratt's richly developed characters are vivid and believable, especially the strong Southern women who fight their male-dominated culture from behind a facade of vulnerability."-Publisher's Weekly
Books one through four in Scott Pratt's iconic Joe Dillard series are offered in a box set.
An Innocent Client: In this bestselling debut, criminal defense lawyer Joe Dillard has become jaded over the years as he's tried to balance his career against his conscience. Savvy but cynical, Dillard wants to quit doing criminal defense, but he can't resist the chance to represent someone who might actually be innocent. His drug-addicted sister has just been released from prison and his mother is succumbing to Alzheimer's, but Dillard's commitment to the case never wavers despite the personal troubles and professional demands that threaten to destroy him.
In Good Faith: In the second book of the iconic Joe Dillard series, it's up to newly-minted prosecutor Joe Dillard to convict Satan-worshipping teens accused of committing heinous crimes. A former defense attorney who spent way too much time defending people he knew were guilty, Joe is determined to win this case to atone for his past. But an evil young woman named Natasha is responsible for the slayings and Joe knows it. Natasha is walking around free because the two boys who have been arrested are too terrified to implicate her. Now Joe must risk everything -- including his family's safety and his own life -- to bring an evil murderer to justice.
Injustice For All: In the third book of the best-selling Joe Dillard series, Dillard finds himself in the middle of two volatile mysteries. The primary suspect in a local judge's murder is Dillard's son's best friend, and Dillard's wife may have destroyed evidence. Meanwhile, a missing girl turns out to be a mystery far deeper than anyone imagined...
Reasonable Fear: In the fourth installment of the best-selling Joe Dillard series, Dillard has become the district attorney in Northeast Tennessee. He becomes heavily involved in a local murder investigation with Sheriff Leon Bates and soon realizes that he is up against an enemy that he has never before encountered -- someone so rich and so powerful that the course of justice could be altered by money and political influence. But when bodies start showing up in his driveway and his family is threatened with termination, Dillard must ask himself how far he's willing to go. His life, and the lives of his family, depend on the answer.
All four of the novels are consistently among the Top-25 Best Sellers in Legal Thrillers, and all four are among the most highly-rated novels on Amazon. Enjoy an incredible value that will offer you more than thirty hours of pleasure and entertainment -- nearly 1,500 pages.

I purchased this set because the series sounded interesting, but mostly because it was practically given away on Amazon. While the books suffer some of the editing issues increasingly common in e-books (and, sadly, also in traditional print versions - are there no editors in the publishing world any more?), I worked to ignore them and left the red pen aside. Joe Dillard is a very interesting character, a lawyer who initially pursues criminal defense because he can't support his family on the pay of a prosecutor. Within these five books, Dillard leaves the defense side and does become the prosecutor he dreamed of being, only to find that things on that side of the law are also unsavory, to put it mildly. By the end, he's back in criminal defense. Dillard comes across as a very real, imperfect person, something I found less true in the works of Turow and Grisham. I began book 1 fully expecting not to finish it, let alone continue through the series. As I finished book 1, I found myself drawn into book 2 and beyond until I had read all five in relatively short order. I found the books very satisfying, if occasionally frustrating, and recommend them to others who enjoy legal thrillers with solid story lines and approachable characters.
I have just finished reading this 5 book Joe Dillard box set. I give it 5 stars!! I couldn't put it down. Scott Pratt is as good an author as any I've read. I'm so happy to have discovered him and I'm looking forward to reading another book by him.
I really enjoyed these simple, Grisham-esque books .
I got them for free on the Kindle lending library and quickly began reading and finishing the first couple of books in the "set". They are novellas, really, but fast paced with simple story lines.
The main character is pretty good, and has realistic emotions and values that drives him. The rest of the characters are kind of one dimensional, but they are supposed to be, so that's fine. Also, the books are so short that it almost becomes a feature instead of a fault.
The plots are simple as well. There is a crime, and Joe defends the crime. Just like every other lawyer-hero, he gets mixed up in a bit of it while he works the case.
If you are looking for a lazy read and miss lawyer books, this is for you.
A Definite Win For The Law, Scott Pratt Makes A Legal Thriller/Mystery Absolutely Fascinating!!!
I have to say for those of you who have read the formidable writings of Robert K. Tanenbaum, Scott Turow and John Grisham to name but a few of my all time favorites, Scott Pratt has joined an elite club of authors! I was so impressed with Joe Dillard, whether he was working as a criminal defense attorney or for the District Attorneys office or choosing cases based on his inner feeling, Scott brings an honorable and amazing man to life in every book that he writes! All the major characters are so well written I feel as comfortable as though I actually know them and each novel bring a case that Joe has a need to figure out, regardless of the outcome! Scott also brings his vast knowledge of the law into every novel, showing us every side of the table in a court case and fascinated me with the inner workings in a case-from the actual crime to the absolute end of a trial or conviction I have definitely found another hero in Joe Dillard and will definitely be finishing the entire series!
Every one of the five novels in this set was very engrossing. I don't read many legal thrillers, so I was a little reluctant to start this set. But they were completely worth the week I spent reading them.
Decades ago, I had thought about becoming an attorney. However, after an internship with a legal aid society, I was too disillusioned. One of the cases I worked on was that of an indigent drunk driver who had driven head-on into another car killing the female passenger and paralyzing her fiance from the neck down. We had to argue down the restitution our client would never pay, and after we won, I left the courtroom, threw up, and never returned.
Pratt's novels explore equally obnoxious situations. I totally appreciated all the suspense, insights, twists, and the occasional humor, and I'll certainly be reading more of his novels in the near future.
Great character/plot depth and continuity through all 5 books. I like getting to know and follow characters throughout a series of stories and I found this box set to be an excellent and enjoyable read. Enough excitement to keep you engrossed in the action but not so much that the story becomes unbelievable.
I just completed the set. I read each of the books and then read a different author after each.
I enjoyed these stories immensely since I have started reading Legal Thrillers. One of the advantages that I have is that I live in Northern Tennessee and are familiar with the locations that the stories talk about.
Each of the stories are well written and the story keeps your interest at all times. Each story brings a small flashback of the prior book. The story starts with Joe looking for an Innocent Client while working as a Defense Attorney. He winds up with two separate clients that each got charged for the same murder. The 2nd story also has him performing as a Defense Lawyer. Stories 3 and 4 he becomes associated with the District Attorney's office, eventually being appointed District Attorney General by the Governor. The last story has him involved in a Kidnapping case where because of a Conflict of Interest, he is forced to withdraws as the Defense Attorney. This didn't stop him from pursuing the case and bringing it to a conclusion.
I can't recommend this set more highly and recommend that you get it so you can understand what I am talking about.
trying something different and I love it, good book
I’ll have to admit, this’s a new category of reading for me. I’m your mafia and gangster kinda of reader. But I got to be honest and say I truly enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, the storyline, the storytelling and the humor. The book is well written, no grammar errors, which drives me crazy. My heart goes out to Angel, it seems she has been through a lot, it’s sad. I’m glad she has Erlene in her life. I do hope Sarah finds some peace and comfort in her heart so she can overcome her pain. I so enjoyed this book that I’m looking forward to reading the next book. Good penmanship author and a great book.
I read mostly cozy mysteries. When this popped up on my you might like recommended email, I thought I would give it a try. I do get tired of the same authors. Sorry, but in my opinion this is no where near being a cozy mystery type book. There was a lot of swearing, some graphic description of men's body parts hacked off, and other things I am not willing to put in my mind. I am sure these are fine for a lot of people. Just not my type. I didn't get very far and quit reading them. I am an older gentle lady and they are definitely not my thing.
Joe Dillard is a very relatable hero. He definitely has feet of clay but that just makes him more appealing. His love for his wife is also beautifully portrayed throughout theses novels. Joe Dillard is a man on the hunt for justice and truth and we as readers get to enjoy the adventures along the journey. I’m looking forward to the next 5 books! I love the combination of adrenaline pumping action, heart wrenching sentiment and legal thrills!
Occasionally you'll find an author you've never heard of and find that you really enjoy his work. Such is the case with Scott Pratt and the Joe Dillard series. Joe Dillard is a lawyer in a small southern town, much like where I live. The characters and the dialogue rings true and the stories were compelling. So glad I've discovered this writer and this character. The first five novels were great, I'm sure I'll be reading more of this series.
I have a new favourite author. Scott Pratt really makes reading a pleasure. Could not put the books down. Loved every minute of reading them. So much going on, yet the author keeps everything together. Though I would have to say, I am sure there are some people living in Tennessee who are not tall, fabulous looking with great bodies, I think most of the characters are redheads or near enough to. These books are some of the best lawyer/police/crime books I have read. Very well written.
I really enjoyed the Joe Dillard boxed set that contained 5 short novels. Each story is told by the main character, a lawyer named Joe Dillard. He has very high morals and tries to do what is right, representing people who do not always share the truth. Joe is also a family man who is close to his son, daughter, and his wife who is battling cancer. He will go to just about any length to get to to the truth in each scenario. I highly recommend this series!
An Innocent Client is the 1st book in the Joe Dillard Series and my first experience with Scott Pratt. Both were an extremely enjoyable experience. Many twists and turns throughout and an excellent read. Looking forward to moving on to the complete series. I highly recommend this author and Joe Dillards continuing adventures through his life and the American Justice System!
I have stopped in the middle of the third book of this series to leave a review. I leave very few reviews, but honestly, this is a great series. I feel like I personally know the characters, and am so caught up in their stories. I have to get back to my book now, but do yourself a favor and read these!!!
Every one of these books was highly involving for me. I had to keep telling myself it's only a book don't get so upset! Dillard is such a compassionate, brave hero who is hopelessly human like the rest of us. I m sure you will enjoy them immensely as I have.
Needs editing (about a dozen typos per book and the dialog in the last one lacked carriage returns in a third of the text, which made it hard to read conversations).
That said, if these were movies you would watch them on TV at night when you didn't want to bother to go out. Entertaining, but not high literature.
I have fallen in love with Scott Pratts. His stories are well laid out. The characters in human. And I love the fact that can relate to all the locations we mentioned in the book. As a matter fact I just drove through Jonesboro and was looking for Joe Dillards office.
Scott Pratt, you have written some great books! I downloaded this whole series and could not put them down. Your characters are so likable, or unlikeable when they need to be, and the story lines are excellent. I’m going to look for Blood Money right now to download and I hope I’ll find more from you as well. Very well done series!!
After having read 1st two books from Kindle library. The plots of all books were interesting and we'll paced.Entertaining reads well worth the 5 book set price. Which is bargain compared to buying even just 3 individual books. All his books are valued priced making for an economical kindle read.
I love the Joe Dillard stories. I read all of the books in the set and was fascinated by the stories and the characters. This author gives the right amount of description and detail without giving too much and making the reading tedious. I am going to read more of his books.
Ok I read this book about a month ago, I forgot about it. It appears on my kindle as unread,so I start reading it again. The story seemed familiar, but I was enjoying the story so much I keep on reading. If I could I would give this box set ten STARS, it is just that good!!😃
Highly readable, finished series in 3 days (and I only read at bedtime). A gifted storyteller, the pace grabs you early on. It would have been 5 stars but one book was shocking and I had a nightmare, that said I finished the story to it's satisfactory and just ending.
After reading all five of these novels they are outstanding. I could not put the books down. I found it impossible
To leave each traumatic event unfinished. I laughed and cried with Joe as his life progressed. Loved the way Each individual was introduced and described in detail, they were unforgettable. Read the books, discover what a great writer this is.
I reviewed theses 5 books separately under their titles. Every book is a 5 star. The entire series is worth the time you spend reading it. I hated for the series to end. But you can be sure that’s Scott Pratt will keep you reading about lawyers and trials in other series. He is a terrific author.
I discovered Scott Pratt through my kindle unlimited subscription and I have been binge-reading him. He writes tightly woven stories with a conflicted, real protagonist who deals with personal heartache as he works for justice for those he represents. I can’t wait to read more of his books!
Pertaining to book 5; which should be included in this set. Part of it was and then it disappeared. So, since I had started the book I had to buy book 5 to finish. Not happy about that. It’s an ok series. For the most part Joe Dillard is kind of an idiot with a temper that gets the best of him. The best character in the series is Leon Bates.
The Joe Dillard series is a fantastic read. I could not put this series down and read the first 4 books in just 3 weeks. I must confess I did read another book in between. I can't wait to start the set of 4. Scott Pratt's character Joe Dillard and his family is very developed and will suck you in to their world.
