This guide focuses on the intellectual skills that enable one to analyze anything one might think about - questions, problems, disciplines, subjects, etc. It provides the common denominator between all forms of analysis. It is based on the assumption that all reasoning can be taken apart and analyzed for quality. This guide introduces the elements of reasoning as implicit in all reasoning. It begins with this idea - that whenever we think, we think for a purpose, within a point of view, based on assumptions, leading to implications and consequences. We use data, facts and experiences (information), to make inferences and judgments, based on concepts and theories toanswer a question or solve a problem. Thus the elements of thought purpose, questions, information, inferences, assumptions, concepts, implications and point of view. In this guide, authors Linda Elder and Richard Paul explain, exemplify and contextualize these elements or structures of thought, showing the importance of analyzing reasoning in every part of human life. This guide can be used as a supplement to any text or course at the college level; and it may be used for improving thinking in personal and professional life.

Very interesting book with several examples of how to think properly. It can feel too repetitive at times, and at least the version I have is printed with a very small letter. If you are looking for an introduction to Analytical thinking, this book is a good primer.
This is not a book. It is a 55 page pamphlet that has some good information. I am not sure if I follow all the steps mentioned to conduct a proper analysis of issues & subjects etc. I learned only a little from this booklet. It is not worth the price people sell it for.
This guidebook is much helpful in learning and practice critical thinking. However, this book doesn't cover in forming arguments. But overall I think this book for everyone to start reading.
i love that my father’s love language is just handing me this book he randomly had and like other haphazard intellectual trinkets or articles. i get my nerd from him!
anyway, this was a nice, simple guide to basic analytical thinking! i feel you would get much more use out of this book by using it as a companion as you write an essay, read a book, etc. instead of just using it as a plain book on its own, but reading it fully first does help to acclimate you to its ideas! will absolutely be bringing this to college with me to reference as i do assignments and writings
This wasn't the most exciting book in the world. In fact, it is not even a book, but a pamphlet. I didn't even think it was on Goodreads, but just checked because it has an ISBN. Anyways, I am throwing this on here in the hopes that some of my coworkers or past coworkers who utilize Goodreads understand that this has been referenced in multiple documents that pertain to our career field. This book breaks out how to think through a process in a logical and structured manner. The majority of people do a lot of these steps subconsciously, but in doing that, portions of these steps are skipped and assumptions are not identified. It is a quick read.
