I found out about this book through a recommendation from a group. I was only able to find it online. A debut novel for the author, it was short and lovely story that I definitely need it more.

This is the debut novella by Alyssa Stark and it is enjoyable and romantic. It is only a novella so the plot fairly skips along, as do most novellas. A lot of effort has been put into these characters to make them 'real' and to a certain point, that succeeds. The one character where I feel this has fallen short is that of John Campbell. He is written as the cold, stone hard man who has his daughter beaten for reading a book and yet at the end of the book, he literally changes his mind on a generations long feud by a few words from the same daughter. The ending therefore seemed a bit rushed, as thought everything had to be finished and tied up neatly with a bow. There is a story within this novella that is just begging to be released. If this story was fleshed out some more and the ending slowed down a bit, I think it would make it a whole lot better.

On the whole, a sweet little romance - the perfect accompaniment to a nice, hot toddy! :o)

This book started out so promising. I love historical romances! I love the way they develop. But the ending completely ruined this book for me. It was rushed, and really, it was transparent. It's as if the author couldn't figure out how to show a real change and development in their character, so the way it all unfolded, just felt cheesy. If the ending were re-written on this, I would gladly give it 5 stars. But as it is, I wouldn't recommend anyone waste their time on this. It was definitely a disappointment.

I very much enjoyed this book. I smiled through most of it. I wish however that it was slightly longer so that we could see them fall in love a bit more, when she was nursing him back to health. Otherwise lovely just lovely.

It was unremarkable. Everything fell into place and was too perfect. I read it and a week later, didn't even remember what it was about. Light, easy read and the Hogmanay aspect was good to read about.

As cute as this story was the ending sucked and if you read it you'll know why...
