Little Miss Contrary says the exact opposite of what she means. This can get very confusing unless you know Little Miss Contrary well! Little Miss Contrary lives in Muddleland and so everything is confusing. Mr. Small delivers an birthday invitation to Little Miss Contrary and she confuses him so much. She isn't much fun to talk with really. Contrary goes to Mr. Happy's party and Mr. Happy quickly figures out what Contrary means, she says the opposite so he doesn't take her insults personally. We get to see many of the original Mr Men like Mr Tickle and Mr. Greedy.

I was able to let the Nephew read this for himself. He thought Contrary was funny and he liked that Mr. Happy figured her out. He has pretty much outgrown Mr. Men by now, but he was willing to read this today, so go that. He's way into Star Wars right now and everything is Han Solo. He was a bit nostalgic for Mr. Men I think and he gave this a 3 star rating.

I found this on Open Library.

We have become Little Miss aficionados lately since CC has been potty-training and I used them as rewards. Some are better than others. I was disappointed in this one because I call CC Little Miss Contrary at home because she's is always argumentative and she also likes to change her mind back and forth. Here, though, our heroine didn't seem to fit my definition of contrary. She just spoke in opposites. Maybe she should have been little Miss Opposite?

Ah, Mr Men and Little Miss, how wonderful you are!

These books made up so much of my childhood. No matter what I would go ahead and pick one up. I worked my way through them all a couple of times. Each one has a wonderful story for the child to engage with, each character being fun to read.

Everyone has a bias for their favourite character, yet every book is delightful.

I absolutely loved these Mr Men and Little Miss books. I remember getting them from my granny every week. There was so much from these simple characters, I remember filling my little bookshelf with all these books making sure I had got them all in right order. I wish I still had these books but somehow most of them got lost with many house moves or my mum gave the rest away. If I ever have kids, I will make sure they get the chance to experience these wonderful, colourful books.

Mum bought this as part of my Christmas present last year - she thought she was being hilarious. I stand by my motto that I'll try pretty much anything once. This super quick read reminded me of watching the TV show when I was younger, and now I've read it I can pass this book along to one of my little cousins!

I did not like this book because I do not like doing opposite things. I also did not like this book because Little Miss Contrary did a lot of awful opposite things.

Well, I guess she’d say this isn’t a book review.

This is the first book that I read in the “Little Miss” series. I went in knowing very little about the series, but having always had an interest in reading them. This felt like one of those series that I would have read as a kid, but I don’t recall reading any of them. I probably did, but they didn’t have any lasting effect on me. This made going into this book series interesting because I was going into it blind, but also as an adult instead of as a child. This made this fun, for me. I can see this being something that a parent would enjoy reading to their child. This book focuses on a character that says the opposite of what she means. This book didn’t seem to have an overall message, outside of saying the opposite of what you mean. It was almost like a game, which I remember playing growing up sometimes. This would have easily been a 5 magical ball review, if there had been a moral to this particular tale. Due to there being no moral or overall cohesive plot resolution, it felt a little flat at the end. It was still, however, a story I enjoyed and definitely think a parent would enjoy reading to their child. I also loved the artwork, which would be great to share with a child. I highly recommend this to any adults out there looking for something to read with their kids. For us adults, I would recommend starting with another character first and maybe read this later, if you decide you want to read all of them.

Miss Contrary is pretty mixed up living in a mixed up world in Muddleland. New friends will be offended by what she said but old friends will adore her. Let’s put on our curious hat and go find out the things she said in this charming little book.

You could almost expect to see an argumentative type here, but that is not really the style of Hargreaves so instead you get a muddle headed bonkers woman and associated story. More insane fun from Hargreaves.

I don’t think Little Miss Contrary was quite the right name for this character.

I was joking with my partner that I’m Little Miss Contrary and reread the book to explain. It’s totally forgotten that she speaks in opposites rather than disagreeing per se, which is how I had meant it. It was kind of fun to reread it though. I’m not the target audience for this but the author has passed so I’ll go ahead and rate it. It’s a cute story but she’s also kind of Little Miss Rude pointing out someone’s weight and since she speaks in opposites her telling a guy she likes his beard was telling him she doesn’t like his mustache which feels kind of mean.

How does Roger Hargreaves manage, in every one of these fabulous little books, to write:

- With silly, goofy humor that's perfect for the youngest readers.
- And also with a droll wit, perfect for the adult readers???

However he does it, I love it. Especially with Little Miss Contrary -- and her linguistic disability, causing her to say the exact opposite of whatever she means.

FIVE STARS of adventure await you, Goodreaders!

Ακόμα ένα βιβλίο της σειράς, που ενώ μας άρεσε γενικά, μπέρδεψε λίγο και θέλει αρκετές επεξηγήσεις στα μικρότερα παιδάκια.
