Victoria Hislop read English at Oxford, and worked in publishing, PR and as a journalist before becoming a novelist. She is married with two children.

Her first novel, The Island, held the number one slot in the Sunday Times paperback charts for eight consecutive weeks and has sold over two million copies worldwide. Victoria was the Newcomer of the Year at the Galaxy British Book Awards 2007 and won the Richard & Judy Summer Read competition.

Her second novel, The Return, was also a Sunday Times number one bestseller, and her books have been translated into more than twenty languages. A short story collection, One Cretan Evening, was published in September and both a third novel, The Thread is published in English in October and in Greek in November 2011.

En virkelig fin historisk roman om Grækenland fra ca 1920 til 1970, hvor masser af interne konflikter og 2. Verdenskrig i den grad sætter præg på bogens handling.
Bogen rummer så meget hjerterum, vilje og håb, og det er skønt at læse i en bog, der indeholder så mange tragedier.

Bogen springer mellem en fiktiv fortælling og historiske begivenheder i et syndigt rod. Som “Øen” af samme forfatter måtte jeg tvinge mig selv til at læse/ skimme bogen igennem. Sprogligt er der heller ikke noget at sige hurra for.

Det er en rigtig spændende historisk fortælling, som både er barsk og rørende. Jeg elsker Victoria Hislop’s skrivemåde, og den måde hun rigtigt bringer sine læsere ind i historien. Jeg måtte fælde en lille tåre pga. den barske virkelighed, som vi hører om.

Lidt info om Tråden: Personerne og mange af de gader og steder, hvor de bor, er ren fiktion, men de historiske begivenheder har alle fundet sted. Grækenland er den dag i dag stadig mærket af arven fra dem.

Personligt synes jeg, at Victoria Hislop’s bøger ”Øen” og ”Hjemkomsten” er lidt bedre, men det er stadigvæk en spændende, gribende historisk fortælling, som jeg meget gerne vil læse igen.
