About the author

bell hooks (deliberately in lower-case; born Gloria Jean Watkins) was an African-American author, feminist, and social activist. Her writing focused on the interconnectivity of race, class, and gender and their ability to produce and perpetuate systems of oppression and domination. She published over thirty books and numerous scholarly and mainstream articles, appeared in several documentary films and participated in various public lectures. Primarily through a postmodern female perspective, she addressed race, class, and gender in education, art, history, sexuality, mass media and feminism.

Aquesta meravella me la va regalar la Patri l'últim Sant Jordi, en trista i patètica commemoració del nostre cap d'any (gràcies<3). No havia llegit mai res de la bell hooks, però ara m'he quedat amb moltes ganes de buscar els seus altres assaigs sobre amor i gènere. "Communion" tracta sobre temes la mar d'elementals en el terreny de la construcció de l'identitat femenina en una societat patriarcal, però també desvela reflexions interessantíssimes sobre la feminitat, les relacions heterosexuals i la manera de socialitzar de les dones. Me'l tornaria a llegir molts més cops i la propera vegada que ho faci crec que hauria d'intentar tenir un llapis a propet, perquè hi ha passatges que m'agradaria tenir a l'abast fàcilment sempre!! Molt recomanable per quan ens desanimem en l'aventura de trobar vincles veritablement positius i duradors, noies<3
