In 1965, she married Michael Taylor with whom she had two children, Angela Taylor-MacIntyre and Alisha Taylor Thurmond. Ms. Taylor attended the Medical College of Georgia from 1977 to 1979 and Augusta State University from 1980-1981. She withdrew from the latter after she sold her first two novels. Today, she is the author of thirty-nine novels, three novellas, and many contributions to other collections. There are thirty-nine million copies of her works in print worldwide and she has made The New York Times Bestseller List eight times. Ms. Taylor's works have also been featured ten times on the "1 million +" bestseller's list at Publisher's Weekly.
Some of Ms. Taylor's most recent books include By Candlelight, Someday Soon, Lakota Dawn, and Lakota Winds (due out in paperback in May 1999). She lives in the country on seventy-nine acres of woods and pasture with a lake and a catfish pond. She writes her novels in a Spanish cottage which overlooks a five-acre lake, a working water mill, gazebo, and covered bridge.

Have mixed reactions on this book. The author uses some strange adjectives but maybe because it’s supposed to be the 1890s? Shows how greed could affect people and cause them to do some crazy things.

When Texas heiress Laura Leigh Webster embarks on an African safari she never realized her life would be turned upside down. She becomes entangled in a triangle of revenge between her guardian, vying for her money, her guardian's mistress, trying to get Leigh out of the way, and Jace Elliott, their handsome guide who just may have committed murder. In a succession on mishaps Leigh doesn't know who she could trust in the wilds of Africa.
Leigh left me with mixed feelings. While I found her likable to some extent, her character felt somewhat flimsy and indecisive. Throughout the book, she seemed to waver back and forth, particularly when it came to matters of trust. Her reasoning often appeared quite far-fetched, leaving me occasionally annoyed with her choices.
Jace, on the other hand, presented a character who was perhaps too controlling for my liking. His protective instincts towards Leigh, while understandable to an extent, sometimes crossed the line, making it seem like he regarded her as more of a possession in need of safeguarding rather than as an equal partner. This power dynamic left me questioning the nature of their relationship and whether it truly allowed for Leigh's autonomy and agency.

tokoh utama cowoknya juga sama cerdasnya ma yang cewek..
alur ceritanya juga baguus...sayang seh ada yang dibikin mati dengan sengsara,tapi y mungkin mmg lebih baik gitu kalee..
pokokke bagi penggemar HR,ni buku wajib buat dibaca ^^

This was the first book by this author that I ever read. I fell in love with the characters and went with them on their journey! Amazing book!

April 25, 2019Laura Leigh Webster went to England after her grandfather died and left her half his business. She became the ward of Chad Hamilton her 21st birthday in November. She was to take her grandfather's place on a trip he had planned to Africa with Chad, his girlfriend, Louisa, his friend Reid and his girlfriend and Louisa's best friend, Cynthia.
She was supposed to meet the group for dinner a few days before the trip but she was given directions to the wrong location. Laura didn't know it but Cynthia had a couple of her stable hands attack her. She was from Texas and did a good job of protecting herself but she had help from someone she didn't know. She found out after she arrived in Africa that it was Jace Elliott.
When they arrived in Africa, Chad had arranged for Jace to be their safari guide. Jace and Laura had already fallen for each other but decided it would be best to keep it from the others. Chad and Laura had agreed to keep it to themselves that should anything happen to her, Jace would inherit the business. Chad bet Jace that he would persuade Laura to marry him while Jace countered the bet that he would win Laura. Jace and Laura had a side bet that she would survive the safari. If she gave up, she would have to stay a year on Jace's plantation in Africa.
While on the safari, Chad put drugs in Laura's canteen to make her sick. He wanted to get her sent home and away from Jace. Jace found the drugs though and put a stop to Laura taking them. Jace was first suspicious that Laura was drugging herself. Reid took the bullets out of her rifle where she was left with no way to defend herself should she be attacked. Jace was there to get her out of trouble. Reid also tampered with Louisa's gun to make it misfire, hoping that it would cause her to shoot Laura. The stray bullet missed her though.
Jace ended up making it look like Laura got herself killed by a bush snake while he had her taken to his plantation. Jace was worried that with all the accidents, Laura would end up dead. Laura was furious at first but she had fallen in love with Jace and found she missed him.
The group all went back home to England after Laura died to take up their lives back home. Jace went to his coffee plantation to talk with Laura. He wanted to ask her to marry him.
Laura and Jace talked about the reasons that Jace couldn't come back to England and they decided to marry, return to England, and face down their enemies. Jace went to see a friend for help and he found his stepsister who agreed to help. She had witnessed some of the things that Jace was blamed for.
Chad and Jace had been friends and spent a lot of time together when they were younger. Jace had been captured by some African warriors when he tried to steal a sacred knife. He blamed Jace for not rescuing him from his torture. Jace had tried to find him but failed. Chad didn't believe him. Jace thought he was dead.
When Chad got away, he went after Jace's stepsister, Joanna, just to get back at Jace. Chad made Joanna his mistress and treated her badly. Joanna witnessed Chad killing a couple of men after he had them murder Jace's father. Chad made it look like the murder had been committed by Jace. Joanna ran away after that.
Louisa's family had lost all their money and she wanted to marry Chad to keep her lifestyle. Louisa had poisoned Laura's grandfather, thinking Chad would inherit his textile business. She had worked with Cynthia to have Laura killed. She didn't know that Jace would get the business if anything happened to Laura. Louisa paid the guys to attack Laura the night she got lost going to dinner in England where she had met Jace. She had also hired two guys to try again when they arrived in Africa. Louisa didn't take her quinine pills while in Africa and got sick on her way home. She died shortly after they got back to England. They found this out from Cynthia after she had a breakdown upon the death of Louisa.
Jace found out that Chad was also dead. He determined that Reid had killed him while others thought he had committed suicide. Reid and Chad's mother had been lovers for years. While Chad's mother had married Laura's grandfather for his money. They had worked together to take over the business and run away together with the money that came in.
Joanna had come back from America to England when she was asked by Jace after he found her. She told the authorities that she had witnessed Chad killing the guys he had paid to kill Jace's father.
Reid met with Jace and told of his and his lover's part in all the mess while he held a gun on Jace. Reid thought that he would be killing Jace. He didn't know that the warehouse they were meeting in was completely surrounded by the police. Reid and Fiona were arrested for their part in the crimes that were committed.
Laura was planning on giving Cynthia money to help her until she died but she ended up losing her mind and getting put in a home. Laura left money for her care.
Laura and Jace were married now and sold the business they no longer wanted to be a part of. Laura kept her grandfather's house in England for them to use should they come back to visit. They thought maybe a child of theirs might choose to live in England when they were grown. They moved back to Africa to live at Jace's coffee plantation. Laura found out she was pregnant once they returned to Africa.
One of Jace's friends and assistants for his tours had married his housekeepers daughter while they were in England. Jace and Laura were happy for them too.
