Not much to like in this short story. Dry writing, implausible coincidences and plot, shallow and unlikable characters. Even the monsters weren’t that interesting. And neither was the world two miles down. It wasn’t quite awful enough for one star, but I was tempted.

I read this short science fiction story a second time and though the writing is dry, it was a wild and good story from the depths of The Cavern World.
