What in the fragenackle hell did I just read?

Beware.... I am spoiling the hell out of this book......

I picked this up because it seemed like an interesting May-December romance. The book starts out fine for about oh... 2 chapters. Then as I read on I had a series of 'What the fuck...?' moments.

First WTF - Hero thinks heroine is a hooker because she is 23 years old and has money enough to own a nice car and her own home. Yeah, a woman can only own nice stuff if she is a hooker.

Second WTF - H&H are on a date after which supposedly they'll end up going home and getting it on. But the heroine grows increasingly cold and distant as the night goes on. We find out later it is because she had her period and didn't know how to tell the hero he wasn't gonna get lucky that night.

Third WTF - Heroine is a gorgeous model. Hero is a doctor. She has gyno appointment at the hospital where he works. Apparently her vag-innards are so gorgeous they make grown ass men doctors nervous and blushy.

Fourth WTF - Heroine is a virgin. That is fine. But despite being the tomboy athletic sister of three older brothers in a big rambunctious family, she has never seen or felt up her own lady parts apparently.

Fifth WTF - According t the hero, only anti-social losers are still virgins at the age of 23. This is not said ironically.

Sixth WTF - Hero offers to wear a condom. She wrinkles her nose because that would be "crass."

Seventh WTF - Heroine asks the hero to marry her. He is afraid of their age difference and him being her first etc. etc. He says no. She gets mad and tells him he has no right to "make decisions for her life." Um, what?

Eighth WTF - Several Months after their break up hero sees heroine in a magazine visibly pregnant. He dashes off to see her and finds her six months pregnant, drunk with empty wine bottles in the garbage and ashtrays full of cigarette butts. The book made pains to let us know the heroine never drank before, even socially, was a health nut and was 'super smart.' But apparently the hero breaking up with her was enough to turn her to drinking and smoking while pregnant.

Ninth WTF - Hero is a doctor and makes literally NO COMMENT about her drinking while pregnant. He feels more upset about the fact that post break up she is no longer wearing sexy lingerie but instead is wearing white bras and granny panties. THIS IS NOT A TYPO. He closed his eyes in despair when he saw her post-break up underwear. But yet feels no concern about the fact that his unborn kid might be affected by the booze his stupid gf is quaffing.

This was written in 1985 there is just no excuse for this level of stupid. I listened to this on audio and deleted this book from my device with a quickness. The narrator was the best thing about it.

23 year old supermodel meets 38 year old doctor when the volleyball she throws smashes into his face. Cute. Subsequently, she shamelessly chases him because she has decided he is the perfect male specimen to get rid of her virginity. Realistic. After a six months affair, he dumps her because he feels guilty about their age difference. He actually takes the trouble to pack her stuff before giving her the “it’s not you, it’s me” speech lol. Then, six months later she does a spread in a fashion magazine showing off her pregnant belly. So he rushes to her house to get her back, because he has been miserable without her, realizes he loves her, and doesn’t care about the age difference anymore. And then, the story lost me because when he shows up, it seems as though our 6 months pregnant heroine has been binge drinking and chain smoking for the duration of her pregnancy! What???!!!! It’s not even as if the story was set in the sixties and people didn’t realize this is very harmful to the baby. No, this idiot is doing it purposefully to spite her ex. Gross. After that, I really didn’t care about the ensuing mini grovel, her quasi-instant forgiveness or their alleged happily ever after :(

I remember loving this as a teen but alas, it did not stand the test of time. As an adult, I found the h very immature and absolutely hated the smoking and alcohol binge late into her pregnancy (that was disgusting! I mean, I know it was written in the eighties but people had to have known that smoking and alcohol were bad to fetuses, right!?) I did like what happened after the H found out about her pregnancy and his groveling. So that was good but the h kinda sucked for me. Ok read but very dated.

After reading a number of early historical books by Ms. Coulter, I figured I'd give one of her early contemporary romances a try. I can't say that I really enjoyed Aftershocks that much. It started out great. Elliot meets and flirts with "George" at a volleyball game. There is a definite attraction between the two of them. There is a bit of a mystery around George and who she really is. Then we find out that she is a model, 23 and very inexperienced. She has chosen Elliot to show her "the ways of loving". At this point I was rolling my eyes.

Neither character was very likable. I thought Elliot was just too old fashioned in his ways of thinking. He acts way to old for his age. George just came across as a spoiled brat who got everything she wanted. Her behavior and downward spiral in the end was just ridiculous. Ms. Coulter is a wonderful writer and has much better writings out there. I think you can safely skip this throwback. You won't be missing much.

Like not even close to love

The book was ok, kind of a brainless read. Nothing up to Coulter's usual standards. The thing that drives me out of my mind though when reading this and other books on Kindle are the errors. I understand the publishers don't have the printing expense normally associated with books when dealing with kindle editions, but do they leave out the proofreading step as well? As far as I can tell from reading kindle editions, the answer is a resounding yes, they do! I am extremely tired of reading these books and trying to figure out what the author is trying to say because there are missing words, misspelled words and the same sentence written two or three times in a row. It takes the joy out of reading. So, if any of the authors should read this (yeah right) please make sure someone is proofreading your novels after they are recreated into kindle editions.

Много сладка двойка и сладко старо Арлекинче. Макар че лекарите тук са описани съвсем като ангелчета 🤭

Catherine Coulter was trying to convey something plausible through Aftershocks but out of the norm. Yes, at times one person in a relationship forces a decision deeming it as best for the relationship. But that is just how they perceive it. The concept of the book is questionable is the sense that something like this is hard to come across.

I found the protagonist to be somewhat childish and unlike the normalities that a person in such a profession comes across. It just highlighted the frequency of flying and the hours that are put into the job. Whereas, the doctor did nothing to make one believe that he is actually a doctor and not a corporate businessman. Although, I liked how the family of the protagonist was shown.

Anyhow, I am sure that there are better books out there written by Catherine Coulter. The ending of the book was nothing short of a shocker and there was an element in between which could have been substantial.

Had an ebook of this for a long time, but only just got around reading it. It was a light read, but regrettably forgettable. If i close the book and sometime would passby, i would forget i was reading it. The story just don't stick with me. Plus, i didn't really like the characters. In the story, George was way younger than Elliot, but it seemed that they were both childish. And Elliot was just an arrogant prick, who is not believable at being a doctor. Some good points is that it is well written, and an ok filler if your in between tackling heavy emotional books.

Well, I kept waiting for the shock announced in the title, but it doesn't really come. I read this on successive mornings while drying off after my morning swim, so it held my interest enough to be able to pick it up (and put it down)... I expect this was written a while ago - we've come a long way, baby!

i really should have paid attention to the author; as it turns out there are several books titled aftershocks and the one i read was not the one i planned to read. i decided to read it because i had previously read several books by catherine coulter and used to enjoy her historical fiction. this one started out okay; what can be wrong with two perfectly formed bodies, a little romance and lots of hot sex. the banter between the main characters got more and more banal as time went on, their interactions were mean spirited, and the male chauvinism shone through. enough said.

Only sex

I have always liked Catherine Coulter‘s books, particularly the FBI series, but I was so disappointed that professional people could fall into bed so easily and have such descriptive passages about their intercourse. It was also quite unbelievable that a doctor would carry on this long without moving away from someone he apparently cared about. Call me naïve. This was not a wholesome book.

I've read some idiotic books, but this one heads the list! I don't know who was more of a nincompoop, the H or the h, probably a tie! That poor baby, what chance does it have, with genetic material like that (not to mention the stupid ass h drinking and smoking when she's six months pregnant)! Hopefully it'll escape from the nursery and find better parents (in this case, almost anyone).

Skip this one!

These old school reads are fascinating.
They are definitely of a time. CW: fat phobia; disparaging condom usage.

I liked the portrayal of the heroine, career women (model) with a love of athletics and a head for investments and tax shelters! The doctor hero is of a type. But the pace of these novels is the best part. No matter how crazy the plot, you don't want to stop reading.

Aftershocks great romance

I enjoyed the characters in this book. They were competitive and always had something to do to keep the action going! Good romance book!

Little bland -more feeling at end came through between a beautiful model and successful doctor 15 years older. Sweet to her most of the time so to me he felt more fatherly sometimes than boyfriend.

I love Catherine Coulter but this one was terrible. Not even close to being recommendable. I just say I'm glad it was short.

It was okay. I did finish reading it. It wasn't one of those books that you can't put down or can't wait to pick up again and read. Slow moving.

3.5 stars. I've often thought, when reading a book I absolutely love, 'why the hell can't I have a second book about these characters just showing their daily life?' Well, Catherine just gave me a hell of a good one... there isn't anything very interesting going on.

Aftershocks wasn't boring, it just went nowhere really. They meet, he's awesome and nice and she's awesome and nice and their relationship is awesome and nice until, for all of 10 pages he's not so awesome and nice, she's not so awesome and nice and their relationship goes kaput. And then it's all fixed up. Where's the angst and the bitterness and the unrequited love that fuels our desire as readers to want more? Not in this book, for sure. This is truly why most romance novels stop at the honeymoon stage.

I liked the book, and the characters, honestly, it just didn't have much to offer except a nice, easy on the emotions, read.

Another good novel by Catherine Coulter. It was thoroughly a romance novel--a good one, but not a great one. It is clearly one of her earlier novels. If this had been the first of her novels that I had read, I would read more. However, if I compare it to her other novels, I find it lacking, as all of her later novels have so much more to them. George is quite an enjoyable character to read about, but the story itself doesn't have that extra umph to it that makes her other novels so wonderful. It is rather straightforward, and lacks the twists and turns her other novels provide. Good enough in general, but lacking her usual flair with stories.

I like the story a lot and I realize this was published decades ago, but there were a lot of typographical errors and misspellings. Also some misuse of words along the lines of compliment vs. complement. I don't think this was one of the exact examples from the book, but it was odd to see so many errors within the book itself. That being said, this is still a fun book to read.

I loved it love how he older and she younger. I did think she was a bit childish in some parts. I didn't like the ending, it was one of the worst ending I read. I did love the subboness that had between Dr Marllory and George. I like how it invlove her family... however i still think it ened quickier than I like.

Dr. Elliot Mallory and Georgina Hathaway meet. Everything seems to be great. Once again, this is a man with his feet on the ground with a "woman head in the clouds". Sweet romance with predictable happily ever after. Well written and easy read. For romance lovers who like doctors.

Pretty standard romance. Elliot is 38 and Greorgina is 23 and was a virgin until she and Elliot got together. He breaks up with her since he think the age difference is too big and she hasn't had a chance to "live".
