A traumatized woman is living on a remote farm, looking for peace. A stranger appears one rain-swept night. He has no memory and no idea who he is. Tentatively the two form a relationship. Both dream of escape, change and redemption - but find they have opened the door to their worst nightmare.
The storyline was interesting as a puzzle for the reader, I enjoyed the multiple points of narration with separate characters though the ending was so disappointing. I felt like Dronfield had two ending ideas to conclude the story yet couldn't define which they would use, the result created the confusing/ typical and cliff hanger ending to the book. When being introduced to the "evil twin" concept my eyes rolled and said aloud "they really went there", it was so typical I was utterly saddened by the end as this book had so much potential in its writing though the ending made it dissolve in any significance for me personally.

Got very silly towards the end. VERY. I'd give this one a miss if I were you, I didn't like the characters, they really did seem to act like real people, there was far to much daft action with guns and things at the end. Annoying unsatisfying ending too.
A really great novel. Confusing at first yes however as you read on through the book it all becomes clear and you have a AHA moment. Couldn't put this book down!
This is a good Novel which puzzle the mind of the reader in some pages.I didn't like the end though,I think Ros must have clealy head Carol saying 'She was right about Him(Stiven or Alan)'but those words didn't come out clealy for Ros to hear them, otherwise Ros would have told the police that Carol was not killed by the wrongly accussed Stiven(Alan).I like Jeremy's writing style if I may may call it so, when you started reading the book, it's not easy to stop because you want to know what is going to happen next due to the enthusiasm that develop as you read. I read the book for the first time in 2009 and I was confused, but after reading for the second time in 2012 I understood it.
I won't lie, but this book was slightly infuriating. Someone with amnesia turns up at the door of a farm in the dark of night, everyone's life changes, as a consequence.
The book tells strands of (memories of)) stories, with the strands merging towards the end of the book, as we need to know what's going on, at the denouement.
It wasn't a bad read, it just felt a little bitty, as we jumped between stories, and the ending was probably necessary, but infuriating, all the same.
To begin with I thought that there were too many different characters being introduced in different places, but as I read further it all became clear. I wasn't prepared for what happens towards the end. Although I enjoyed the story all the way through, it was only towards the end that the tension began. Very different!
I liked it though I did get a bit confused at times because of the ever changing time line but the book moved at a good pace, I was able to identify with the characters and it was exciting. It's also set in my neck of the woods so that made it even more interesting to me.
