My 6-year-old continues to really enjoy this series and wanted to start the next one right away as soon as we finished this one tonight. The books follow a predictable format, where Freddie gets a new element added to his superhero gear and then has to solve two mysteries, and there's definitely some suspension of disbelief necessary as Freddie wanders off during school more and more without plausible excuses, but they're enjoyable. This one included a higher-stakes action scene than the previous two books had, though you still know everything's going to be OK in the end. My only complaint was the unnecessary inclusion of Freddie's class making a tepee as an art project for no apparent reason. Otherwise, this was a fine continuation of the series, and I was glad to see that there are more books than the six that Goodreads currently lists as part of this series!

Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading Level: Approximately Level M
Summary: Freddie Ramos continues his quest to be a superhero by adding a new element to his wardrobe, cool silver goggles. His attempt to solve the mystery of the purple squirrel that keeps showing up at school leads him to a prime suspect: the Principal! And when a huge thunderstorm passes through their town, the dangers are not over. Luckily, for his town, Freddie Ramos zooms to the rescue!
Why I Liked/Disliked the Book: Freddie Ramos is a real kid superhero. He is learning to become a superhero by trying to tackle all of the problems that he comes across whether it is a lost pencilbox or a mysterious purple squirrel.
What This Book Made Me Think About: What's next for Freddie Ramos? How does he become a better superhero and help even more people?

Younger readers will enjoy the next adventures of Freddie Ramos, in this short chapter book series, as he uses his superhero powers, thanks to his purple zapatos (sneakers), to solve the mystery of the purple squirrel at school.

Love this series. Such a perfect rescue, kid becoming superhero story. Quality characters and fun storyline that all my 2nd-3rd graders can't get enough of! The mystery just continues.

Another cute addition to this quick and easy series, featuring new goggles, a purple squirrel, and - of course - zapato power!
