This was a great book to give an overview of a variety of science topics. This book is thick and has a lot of information. My children enjoyed learning the variety of things presented. I did not read all of the chapters as some were over their heads, but we will reference this has they improve their science understanding. Nice reference book to have on hand. (As with all science books, this book also contains references to evolution and environmentalism).

Relevance and Relationship—
This text reference is hardcover for durability and third in a series. The cost, $28.94, is in line with comparable encyclopedias. This inclusive text addresses conservation which goes hand in hand with Earth Day observances and Reuse, Reduce, Recycle content. Since the encyclopedia focuses on Science it contributes more specific information than a general encyclopedia.
Purpose:—
All essential scientific concepts are included; Physical Science, Earth Science, Life Science, and a current technology section which are included in core content requirements. Although the text emphasizes scientific content, it is well organized and easily comprehended.
Validity—
The author, Professor Charles Taylor, is the recipient of U.K.'s Bragg Medal and Prize of Institutional Physics, and the UK's Michael Faraday Award for contributions to the public understanding of science. Teachers of elementary to middle school agree this is a must for school and public libraries. Format–
This resource’s 496 pages are comprised of charts, timelines, sidebars, pictures and reference boxes to additional topic information in the text. Prompting with additional queries is incorporated to motivate the young student to dig deeper. Scientists’ mini-biographies are included.
Arrangement and Presentation-
Vivid images are embedded with easy to understand text to draw a child’s interest to read more. Each page has its own unique layout to aid reader curiosity. The Table of Contents is arranged by topic and formatted in three column style which also has colorful pictures randomly placed throughout. The glossary lists key terms in bold for easy recognition along with their definitions; it is formatted in three-column style. Computer terms are placed in a special shaded sidebar. The index is also alphabetized in four column format but no words are in bold.
Diversity- The colorful outer cover with pictures of Rockets and DNA strands will be inviting to students who typically have difficulty in the area of Science. Clear concise wording and companion visuals are beneficial for students who struggle with reading and comprehension and innately shy away from complex science reference material. Text is created to address lower and higher level thinking. The entire book is bright and engaging for all ages but it is rated for ages 10 to 14.
