Dying To Tell

Rate this book
Part-time journalist Aoife Walsh is about to tie the knot with her long-term boyfriend, Detective Conor Moloney. However, after barely surviving the trauma of her first marriage, and still having to deal with her challenging ex-husband, Aoife is less than excited about the prospect of organising a wedding.

Her wedding anxiety quickly takes a back seat when the missing person case she is researching turns into a murder investigation.

A year earlier, IT specialist Matt Gallagher disappeared on his honeymoon abroad, seemingly without explanation. Now, after his bride learns of a huge inheritance Matt had been expecting, Aoife finds herself uncovering a trail of clues that lead her from the rain-soaked cobblestones of Dublin to the sun-baked streets of southern Italy.

But what Aoife hadn’t expected was that her own personal life would get mixed up in the murder investigation - or that her search for the truth puts herself and her loved ones directly in the crosshairs of a deadly killer.

Dying To Tell is the fifth instalment of Val Collin’s Aoife Walsh thrillers, described by readers as “absolutely incredible,” “heart-racing” and “spectacular.

All five books are standalone thrillers and can be read in any order.

Many thanks to both VCB Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Dying to Tell.

After barely surviving the trauma of her first marriage, and still having to deal with her ex-husband, Aoife is less than excited about the prospect of organizing a wedding. However, her wedding anxiety quickly takes a back seat when the missing person case she is researching turns into a murder investigation.

Boy am I the outlier here! I really liked how the book began but about a third of the way in it felt as if there were red herrings on top of red herrings, etc. I finally reached the point of telling myself "I don't think I'm even going to pay attention to this because I'm sure it's another red herring."

Keep in mind Dying to Tell has FABULOUS reviews, and take mine with a grain of salt. For what it's worth, I really liked the very end of the book!

I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Val Collins is the author of the award-winning psychological thriller GIRL TARGETED and the international bestsellers ONLY LIES REMAIN , THE SILENT SPEAK and WHERE LOYALTIES LIE. Her fifth book DYING TO TELL will be released on 28 February 2023. All five books feature heroine Aoife Walsh. They are all standalone thrillers and can be read in any order. A native of Ireland, Val began reading at the age of three and still devours books at the rate of one per week. Her favourite authors range from Philippa Gregory and Sophie Kinsella to Lee Child and Linwood Barclay.

“She only had one option.”

Aoife has a public piece she’s been assigned. And she figures it will be a pretty easy assignment. But the deeper she gets into her research, the more she realizes that things aren’t what they seem.

Holy cannoli. This book was a ride. I love Aoife. She is such a bold character. I love how intelligent she is and how dynamic she is. Her heart is so pure, and she is an excellent leading lady.

I loved all of the elements in this book. The wedding planning, the secrets, the levels of characters. It was all so well done, and it was easy to see how overwhelmed Aoife felt.

I loved the Irish names in this book, I probably mispronounced them all over my head, but they were beautiful. I loved that Orla was such a prominent character in this book; I like her a lot.

I wish we had gotten to the wedding; after everything that happened, that would have been a fantastic ending. But I am so pleased with how this book played out.

I was wrong in how I thought things would play out; I fell for the distractions hard, so as the truth gets revealed, my jaw hit the floor. I love how Val tells a story, and I love being so invested in this cast of characters.

I have enjoyed this series from the start. I am already anxiously awaiting the next book!

Being of Irish descent, I loved this novel and the incredible writer. I love thrillers and, more importantly, thrillers that compel you to read every last word in the book. This book had more turns than the Indy 500, and I loved every one of them. Thank you to this incredible writer for creating a fantastic series with authentic "Irish" storytelling! A true must-read.

Having read two of Val Collins previous books I was delighted to receive this arc and catch up with Aiofe again.

Aiofe and Conor are planning their wedding. However things dont go according to plan with a few spanners in the works.

Aiofe sleuthing again when a man disappears on his honeymoon a year ago and later when a young lady is executed, Aiofe is convinced the two cases are connected.

A roller coaster of a ride which i had to stay up to finish I will be going to find the other two books in the series which I havent read yet.

Suspenseful for sure, kept me as the reader guessing as to who was telling the truth and who wasn’t as a journalist digs in the story behind a brides husband coming up missing on his honeymoon. This is one of those stories I want to go back and read again to pick up clues I missed the first time around.

This has been my second ARC of this month, and to be truly saying, I’m delighted that I’ve received this copy.
I’ve read the first book in the series, that was the first time I’ve. one across this author, and since that read, I’ve bookmarked the author. And this being the second book, I must say, Val has a way of not disappointing her readers. The story line, the suspense, everything seemed great.
The way the author has mixed the personal problems of the lead character, along with the investigation, was something which felt natural. People are never perfect, the personal problems always mix up with the judgement of the professional problems. That is how life goes on, where we keep tacking both the personal and professional life’s.
The author has nicely pointed how gossips can estrange us from our path, and how people use gossips to protect themselves. Gossips should be the most dreaded, as those small tiny rumours, yield such great power in them, that they could destroy a persons life in whole.

Dying to Tell
By Val Collins

Dying to Tell is a thriller mystery where you won’t be able to guess who did it and even what they did. Aoife has returned with her journalistic talents, winning personality, and surprising mystery solving intelligence. Dying to Tell is the fifth book in the Aoife Walsh Thriller Series written by Val Collins.

Aoife is delighted to find out she has a proposal approved to write a series on unsolved mysteries. She wants to take the approach of describing the people involved, those peripherally involved, and how they handle what happens. If possible, Aoife wants to solve the mystery. Her first assignment involves a newly married couple who are on their honeymoon when the groom disappears. Is this murder, a case of a runaway groom or has the groom been kidnapped? There are many angles to follow so Aoife takes the human-interest angle, interviewing friends and family of the bride and groom. During these interviews, it becomes obvious that there are some odd things going on in the apartment complex where the couple lives. Rumours abound. Was the groom a faithful boyfriend/husband? Did he have some secrets that the bride is only now finally finding out through Aoife’s investigation? Did he disappear, die or run away?

I really like Val Collins writing because she mixes the mystery with the characters involved. Her stories evolve to the point where the characters are so fully developed the reader really gets invested in their story. Aoife has so many intelligent questions in researching her stories, that she quite often solves the mystery while she is really writing about the characters. Unfortunately, in this case, I did find the story a bit slow towards the end. They are so many characters introduced or talked about that by the end, it is a bit confusing. However, the ending is quite good. When we do find out who committed the crime and why the crime took place it is quite surprising.

The best thing about Val Colin‘s books are the personalities. Aoife is getting married again. This time around she is not keen on having a large wedding. She is convinced by her friend Orla to have a bigger wedding than she really wants and this leads to a bunch of confusion and misunderstandings. As she meets her fiancé Colin’s family , they are not nearly as welcoming as she had hopes they will be. This, along with the confusion that her ex-husband creates leads to an interesting side story in social interactions among people. Character development is Collin’s strength and it is how she makes her stories so complex and interesting.

I think this book is an excellent one for people who like mysteries thrillers with a dash of the ordinary lives of people who are impacted by these crimes. I give this book a 4 on 5 primarily because it is a little too complex in the middle but the ending is excellent. I want to thank BookSirens and the author for providing me with a digital copy of this book. I provide this review voluntarily.

Book Review: Dying to Tell by Val Collins

Rating: 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Genre: Thriller

Review: I think this was my favorite book in this series thus far! I loved going on the ride with Aoife as she independently searches for the answers of a murder that happened about a year ago in another country. I thought I had what happened figured out, but yet again, I did not really know at all! I did not guess the ending, and was super impressed at how Aoife put everything together. I am looking forward to continuing following her journey and can't wait to see what happens next! You can read this series as standalones or in order. Also, one thing that I wish more authors would do is put how to pronounce names in the beginning of the book. Val did this since the names are Irish, and it really makes reading it more enjoyable knowing exactly how to pronounce everything!

Summary: Part-time journalist Aoife Walsh is about to tie the knot with her long-time boyfriend, Detective Conor Moloney. However, after barely surviving the trauma of her first marriage, and still having to deal with her challenging ex-husband, Aoife is less than excited about the prospect of organizing a wedding. But what Aoife hadn't expected was that her own personal life would get mixed up in the murder investigation - or that her search for the truth puts herself and her loved ones directly in the crosshairs of a deadly killer.

Dying to Tell is book 5 in a series but can be read as a stand-alone. The main character, Aoife, is a mother and a writer that’s in between jobs. After pitching a story about a missing person case to the Irish Times, she is given a feature in the paper. She’s been quite obsessed with the disappearance of Nicole Gallagher’s husband, Matt, who was last seen on a beach during their honeymoon. Aoife wishes to solve the mystery to help a grieving widow find some answers all while juggling motherhood and planning her own wedding.

Aoife’s fiancée, Conor, is a police investigator 🕵🏻‍♂️ and she’s so thankful for his insight as she explores the mystery behind Matt’s disappearance. As she interviews the widow and the neighbors within the community Aoife unravels secrets, betrayal, and affairs.

Her investigations have brought up too much attention and she becomes a target. How could her life be mixed up in all this crime? Who can she trust? What happened to Matt? Will she survive?

I love love loved this book! The beginning was slow as we were introduced to the characters and given the backstory that led up to Matt’s disappearance but once it picked up, I was flying through the pages! I devoured the entire book in one day because there were so many suspects and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. The ending was such a surprise and I couldn’t believe it! I definitely recommend this book to all my thriller loving friends.

My goodness this was a roller coaster ride! From the get go it sucked me right in and had me hooked, staying up late to see what would happen next. Just when I thought I had things relatively figured out or thought that I was at least on the right track something would happen that would throw me for a loop.

This book had a lot of the things I love - mystery, murder, secrets. Aoife Walsh was about to marry her boyfriend, a detective, She had been married before and wasn't super enthused about planning a big, lavish wedding. She is a part-time journalist who is researching a missing person case, which quickly turns into a murder investigation. She meets people who are intertwined with the murder victim and his wife and there are so many twists and turns that arise. Trust me, you will be questioning absolutely everyone in the book

I didn't realize that this was part of a group of books starring Aoife Walsh (this is book 5). That being said, I couldn't even tell, which was awesome. I wasn't lost at all reading this book, having not read the others. I would LOVE to read the others in the series, though, especially if they are as good as this one.

I got this gem from @netgalley and I’ll say ….it is another great one by @valcollinsbooks - this is filled with distractors / red herrings - I wonder if you will be able to piece it together and solve the case before the end ! It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster at one point I went from loving Connor to hating him and Orla then I was not feeling Grannie only to then end up loving her well appreciating her at the end …. It was a great relatively quick read - it keeps you entertained and guessing so you tend to keep the pages turning just trying to sort it all out !
I also just learned at the end of this that it is a series “Aofie Walsh” thriller series but they are also stand alone thrillers - I am super intrigued and want to go back and read the other four to see if there is more on her and her first husbands back story because that seems like DRAMA!!!!
Highly recommend @valcollinsbooks books if you like a good thriller whodunnit, murder mystery

Till date I have read everything Val Collins! As a massive fan of her Aoife Walsh series, I was keenly awaiting this one. And I'm glad to say, this one doesn't disappoint either. Excellently placed with short chapters, author Val Collins just kept the suspense building up, and it helps that the likable lead characters just kept hooked me throughout.

Will continue to keenly await whatever author Val Collins comes up with next!

Compelling mystery with thrilling and chilling moments
Aoife Walsh is at it again. What starts out as an article about a missing person, intrigues our part time journalist and amateur sleuth. When Aoife gets a whiff of possible wrong-doing, she’s on the case. And of course she has her fiancé Detective Conor Moloney as a sounding board for her many questions and theories. Besides her article and her new mystery, she thinks she discovers Conor is cheating on her. Is he?
I’ve only read a few in this series, but I cannot stop reading them until I know the tangled web Aoife always discovers. This story is very tangled and there will be twists. Truly enjoyable for readers who enjoy a well thought out plot with intrigue, a touch of humor and lots of mystery. If you can relate, please try this book or any in this series. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

Aoife is back! A totally likeable character who has been in all five of the Val Collin’s Aoife Walsh standalone thrillers, Aoife finds herself doing an investigative piece on a man who has gone missing while on his honeymoon in Italy. But soon the journalistic article (and her own pending wedding) is overwhelmed with details that just aren't adding up! Was he cheating on his wife? Was he involved in something sordid? Do the neighbors know more than they are letting on?

With each piece of evidence, Aoife comes up with a new theory of who, what, where, why, and how, and I'm right there beside her! Everyone's a suspect! Guess along with Aoife as she dodges around a wedding, soon-to-be-in-laws, people who are lying to her, and a really bad man to find the killer!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Val Collins, one of my favorite indie authors, for advance copies of this enjoyable book!

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book title before getting to interview Val Collins for Book Banter with Dianne Burckhardt episode 54, streaming now at www.BurckhardtBooks.com/podcast.

As I tell Val in the interview, I hate the term "unputdownable," (it gives me chest pains to see it) but it is the best way to describe her book. I wanted to keep reading all night just to find out what came next. The world she created is vast and varied and incredibly interconnected. Her characters are relatable and interesting.

I did not have a clue who the real killer was until the actual reveal at the end of the book. I felt that at least one character was included in the story just to be a red herring (and a good one), to help keep you guessing until the very end, but that is just my personal opinion.

While her books can be read in any order I think I would have like to have started from the first one written just so I knew more about Aoife Walsh. However, there is enough explanation in this book that I feel I have a clear understanding of her character and her relationships, but I always want to know more. So I guess the first Aiofe Walsh books will go on my to read list now!

Really enjoyed this book, it's the third one featuring Aoife that I have read, and while I liked the fact I knew some of the characters, I feel it would work really well as a stand alone too.

Although there is a strong investigative element, there is also lots about Aoife's relationships, so I think it could have dual appeal to those who like crime novels, and those who enjoy family and romances.

The chapters are quite short which is dangerous at bedtime as you think… just one more!!

I'm grateful to Book Sirens for sending me a free advanced copy to read and review.

Would definitely recommend this book and the series as a whole.

Dying to Tell is Book 5 in an Aoife Walsh Thriller by Val Collins. I really enjoy this series and I think Aoife is a great character. I believe that Dying to Tell is my favorite book yet! Matt disappeared on his honeymoon and this begins so many levels in the thriller. I don't want to spoil the story, do I will say that the story is creative and the characters are fantastic. Val Collins has written a book that brings emotion and fast paced--surprising twists. I can't wait to read the next book. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

This book is one big convoluted conundrum mixed with wild speculation and theories by the main character, Aoife Walsh, a journalist writing a human interest story about a man who goes missing in his honeymoon.

Aoife has all kinds of theories about who may have killed Matt with as many theories on why. The actual who and why was quite the reveal at the very end. I typically am able to figure out mysteries, but the clues and answers to this mystery are well buried in the story.

I enjoyed the story; however, I prefer storylines that are more suspenseful and thriller-esque and less murder mystery. There are a slew of characters to keep track of and lots of purposely distracting leads.

It was an enjoyable and entertaining experience. I received a free ARC from the author and Hidden Gems; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

Book 5 in the series, the story works as a standalone. Aiofe is a journalist writing an article for the Irish Times. However, there are further developments in a year-long story changing the upcoming article from an interview into an investigation. Meanwhile, Aiofe is due to marry her boyfriend, but with a traumatic first marriage, Aiofe isn't sure of what she wants. With the investigation as a deliberate distraction, this proves to only make matters more difficult.

Definitely full of Many Suspects

First of all, I appreciate that even though this book is 5th in a series, it read well as a stand alone. I didn't feel as though I had missed a lot of the back story. As for the main character, she is very likable, but she definitely overreacted to something that had a good explanation. I found that a bit annoying. The story went in many different directions which was almost too many for my taste, but I did enjoy reading it to the end. I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway.
