Book 1 of the Come Together seriesStaff Sergeant Travis Donovan is on the hunt for his little sister. Though he hasn't spoken to her in years, his last deployment reminded him how short life is, and it's time to reconnect. Only problem? The one piece of contact information he has, a cell phone number, belongs to someone else now. A woman named Ariel. A woman he can't get his mind off.Ariel Winston doesn't have time for a man. Her plate is full with work and grad school and family obligations, and she's fine with that. But the innocent friendship she's sparked with Trav, the anonymous texter, can't hurt. Right? It's not like she'll ever meet the guy face to face. But when these two collide during a night of voyeuristic pleasure, they have decisions to make. Will they balk at what fate has dropped into their laps? Or be willing to look beyond the unique circumstances and enjoy their finite time together?
KJ Reed is an inconspicuous housewife by day, folding laundry, changing diapers and washing dishes with pleasure. But late at night, when the rest of the household is asleep and not making messes she has to pick up, she writes erotic romance. She took up writing one day when she realized the voices in her head weren’t multiple personalities, but characters begging to come out and play.
A military wife, she’s fortunate enough to be surrounded by manly, Alpha-tastic inspiration on a daily basis. Nothing stirs the blood quite like a platoon of sweaty Marines running by in formation, does it ladies? Of course, she’d tell you where she lives, except by the time you’re done reading this biography…she’s probably moved again.
KJ is currently working on her next erotic romance, hopefully hot enough to singe your socks off. She loves hearing from readers, or anyone really, so head over to her Contact page and send her a message.
You can find KJ on Facebook and also follow her on Twitter. But be kind if she doesn’t acknowledge your tweet right away…she’s still learning the Twitter ropes! She is also a blogger on the group blog: Passionate Reads. Head on over and see what she and fellow erotic romance authors are talking about today!
This was cute, but probably forgettable. I thought it was cuta that when they met they had an instant connection, even not knowing that's who each other had been texting with. I mean, what are the odds? I'm not really sure why Ariel needed to consider what Travis had told her once he came clean... it's not like she was being super cautious when she decided to screw him within 15 minutes of meeting him, you know? Not a very deep story, and not even a deep connection between the characters, but it was still kinda cute.
Awww. This one was sweet. It was also nicely naughty but it had a level of sweetness to it that worked for me. That said, the two couples who hook up don't mind having sex with other people in the room but it was pretty vanilla sex despite the voyeurism.
I did like the book overall but there were a lot of coincidences that happened to bring our two main characters together. However, at one point it was pointed out that sometimes weird coincidences happen and you just have to go with them. Which is true. Trav and Ariel stumble across one another more than once and once Trav got the courage to lay his cards on the table, things worked out nicely.
Fast, sexy, and sweet. A nice little story to get lost in.
This was a pretty good (short) book. It seemed like there were a lot of plot holes and really nothing was resolved. Ariel and Travis meet when he text her. They begin texting one another because of a fluke phone number coincidence and she agrees to give him help in finding his sister. Unfortunately, the issue with his missing sister is left unresolved. This book could have been better if the characters were developed a little more. The female character was likeable but she really didn't seem real. Also, there was a lot of hinted backstory but no real history.
Hmmm...first time reading this author. The story was short...IMO too short for how good the chemistry was betweem Ariel & Trav and too short to let them develop more. Would have loved to see them in a full length book, getting to know each other.
I am definitely interested in Ms Reed's future books....hopefully longer and more developed. Would love to see an expanded version of Text Me.
This was cute although the safety in numbers bit was taken too far - let's be safe by engaging in threesomes with strangers! O_O Wouldn't have been easier to get a f*ck buddy?
Weird little books this was... Again, I seem to select books in bundles cause this one is, like the last I read, about adult people meeting through a phone. And although there's nothing remarkable about the love story or how it develops, there is a certain sex scene, the first, with a... foursome? Let's just say it makes it worth the read. To the spank bank material it goes!
This was a good story. I liked both Travis and Ariel and found their story enjoyable. This is the first story I've read by this author and based off this I'd be willing to try more of her work in the future.
This review might be considered a bit spoilery because I talk about most of what happens in the story so be warned... :)
Ariel is a student getting her Masters in Social services and intends to become a social worker when she graduates. She also works with her family, running a summer camp. Ariel has been too busy with work and school to think about dating.
Travis is a marine and has been for the last 10 years. He and his sister grew up with a horrible father so when he turned 18, Travis joined the marines to get away ASAP. The problem is his sister was left in the house and he lost track of her once he entered the marines. He's on leave right now and decides to go back home to try to find his sister. He's also deciding what to do with his life as it's time to reenlist or leave the marines and he's not sure if he should reenlist or not.
Travis has been trying to get in touch with his sister and when texting her phone, finds it's not her number any more. He and the woman that now owns the number (Ariel) start texting each other randomly and although they don't intend to meet, they both feel a connection to each other through their text convos. Travis and his buddy, Pete, go to try to find his sister and the first night, Pete goes to the bar while Travis stays at the hotel. Ariel and her friend Mary happen to be out at a local sports bar (their favorite pickup place) and having trouble with a married jerk when they're rescued by a nice and handsome guy (Pete). Mary and Ariel tend to do a group pick-up thing for safety reasons. They pick up 1 guy or 2 guys that are friends or roommates so they can have a one nighter but be safe. When Pete saves them from the jerk, they go back to his hotel with him. There they meet Travis and he and Ariel have an instant attraction. At this point though, the women are using their middle names (for safety reasons) and the guys tend to go by their last names so neither Travis or Ariel realize that they're hooking with the person they've been texting. All 4 of them end up having sex in the same room (staying 2 separate couples) and there's a bit of voyeurism going on during this time. The night is satisfying and the girls take off but both Arial and Travis have trouble letting go at the end of the night.
The next day, Travis and Pete are canvassing the area looking for Travis' sister when they see the girls at a coffee shop. A few things happen that makes Travis realize that the girl he slept with is also the one he's been texting. He wants to tell her but is afraid she'll freak on him and think he's a stalker or something like that. He invites her to dinner that night and they have fun, even going to her place afterwards for some more fun. Travis had been planning to tell Ariel about who they are earlier (but got distracted by sex) and he does eventually tell her. She doesn't freak but does ask for some time to think about things. Travis gives her the time and continues to look for his sister. Travis doesn't find his sister but he has some luck with Ariel as she decides to believe him and they spend more time together before he has to leave. Travis tells Ariel he's not going back in to the marines and is moving home to stay. He asks Ariel for a chance of them together when he gets back for good and she's very interested as she wasn't looking forward to him leaving. I'd say this was a HFN ending with possibilities for a HEA in the future.
This was an enjoyable story. I liked the characters and the story was short but it did well with the limited length. I usually prefer HEA endings but with as short as the story is the HFN was understandable (this wasn't an insta-love situation) and worked well for me. I ended this story feeling pleased with how it turned out. :)
You know when you've had a book on your reading shelf for awhile and you look at it over and over again because you want to read it but you just aren't in the mood? Well that was me with Text Me. I just haven't been in the mood for a contemp romance with heat as I seem to have been on a big urban fantasy and historical romance kick lately. Well I decided yesterday to leave the urban fantasy and historical romance behind because I just needed something fresh. Text Me was perfect for my mood and I am so glad I waited to enjoy the smutty goodness.
I loved the idea on how the couple Ariel and Travis meet in Text Me. I had not come across that scenario and I really enjoyed reading it all come together. I can't recall reading a book with a similar plot line so it was fresh and creative.
I adore books with a military flare and although Text Me is not set in a military situation with combat or international struggles, the two yummy men were marines. The main protagonist, Travis Donovan, screamed sexiness and the way KJ Reed described his kisses made me melt. So hot. Any girl would be jealous of Ariel.
Ariel seemed like girl from both ends of the spectrum. On one hand she is a hard worker plugging away at school mimicking a bookworm and then on the other end she is into sharing men with her best friend. I love that she blows both stereotypes out of the water. Why can't smart girls be all seducing and sexy?
As their fake names prevented an outright meeting, it was a lot of fun reading about the unraveling of all the text messages and how it was uncovered that each was texting one another. It was just meant to be that in a big city like Philly, they meet and fall for each other.
If I didn't know that there were two more books in this series, I would be disappointed not knowing what became of Travis's missing sister, his friend Goodwin and not finding out whether Ariel's best friend, Mary Ellen, ever gets Ariel's brother Brice pinned down for a date. The good news is, there are two more books that answer all those questions!
Teasers: hotel sex (cause who doesn't love hotel sex), sexy marines, sister search, "I'm not going to die a ninety-year-old virgin because the one man I'd want to spend forever with won't even give me for now."
Okay, so this book was going to be awesome because who doesn't love the idea of a family minded marine? Especially one trying to fix the wrongs of the past.
The situation of the hero and heroine is unlikely, but that's what the book centers around. A fluke mix up, a random connection and chemistry. Ariel and Trav are fun characters. Ariel is very bookish, family minded and knows what she wants. Trav is a good guy, very concerned about his sister and comes with bad family baggage. I got more of a feel for who Ariel was as an individual than Trav, but I think a lot of that is because his identity is still wrapped up in being a marine.
So the meat of the matter? This is a sexy book. I didn't bother reading the full blurb, so, ah, I'm not sure if there's a warning about voyeuristic scenes or couple sex. Usually this would be something I'm uncomfortable with, but I'll assure any other erotic-reading-prudes, this one is the one you take a chance on. The passion is sizzling, the characters connect and let's face it, it's hot and you might need a cold shower.
For me, my one and only hang up comes in my own short comings. I'm really bad at keeping names straight, so the beginning of this was a tough read for me. The book starts with two pairs of friends, who both end up hooking up together using aliases. I was really, really, really confused for a bit and had to do a lot of rereading (OMG, let me tell you how hard THAT was to force myself to do. Woe is me! Ha1 Yeah right, just reread it and thank me later). I would have liked to have known more about Trav's sister, but I believe that was a set up for the next book, so I'll forgive that.
Super hot read. You should read it and support our troupes. Right? Whatever. It's hot and a great long lunch-break read.
Why I Read this Book: In this day and age of technology, it’s amazing how we can meet new people. The author took that concept and created a fun romance story.
What I Liked:Text Me had a very interesting premise and it was executed quite well. It was a bit predictable and coincidental in some aspects but still an enjoyable read. The main thing is I wanted to find out how things would work out between Travis and Ariel.
The secondary characters were as much part of the story as the lead were that I want more of their stories as well. And there was a bit of voyeurism and exhibitionism going on with all of them. Made for sexy times, for sure.
What I Didn’t Like: The storyline regarding the missing sister was left completely unresolved. Even more troubling is the fact that the next book in this series in not available for purchase anywhere, and the next book seems to involve Sarah. I contacted the author and she informed me that the contract with the publisher was up and that she is reformatting the books and getting new covers so she can self-publish them. There’s no word on when the books will be back up for sale, as the author has some deadlines to meet for books she writes under another pseudonym.
Overall Impression:Text Me was a fun, quick read but I am disappointed that the story arc surrounding the missing sister was unresolved. I also really want Pete’s story and to find out if Mary Ellen and Brice finally get together. I can only hope that the author gets books 2 and 3 up for sale soon.
She has no life outside of textbooks; everything is about exams and studying; there is no time for relationships. As I read about Ariel, the main character of Text me, I felt that K.J. Reed was sometimes talking about me. That is until the part where she leaves her more than healthy study life for a healthy sex life.
Thanks to her best friend, Mary Ellen, Ariel goes out and meets a very sexy, hot man. The author describes wonderfully well the hot sizzling chemistry between Ariel and the stranger. KJ Reed not only describes sex well, but is also able to create an aura of sweet innocent romance between Ariel and her anonymous texter friend.
However, one problem I had was that K.J. Reed presents us two mysteries which never got solved. We never find out why Mary Ellen can’t date Brice and we never find out what happened to Trav’s sister.
Nonetheless, the story between the main characters flows easily and the connection between them – be it via phone or real life - is great. The story hooks for its funny moments, its coincidences, its sweetness, and the very realistic confusion that texting messages can create.
Text Me is a quick, fun read for any moment in which we wish to leave technology aside and focus on a good story.
I have been stuck in a book rut. I have not wanted to pick up any book lately to read it. So, I decided I wanted to read something of a shorter nature and maybe it would help. I enjoyed this book to the fullest. I finally picked up that book that just caught my attention and grabbed hold of me. Kids leave mommy alone, she is reading! I was very drawn into Ariel and Travis as characters. Ariel who was the more shy quiet kind of girl gave me quite some surprises I was not expecting. I imagined her as this little nerdy girl, glasses and frigid by day and at night, hot student. At least, that is the image I had in my head.
I liked that texting in this book. I really like to see this in books. Texting is such a part of everyones life that I often wish more authors would embrace it. We can relate. People don't call each other for little things anymore.
The romance in this book is hot and steamy and the door definitely stays open. The conflict in this book is believeable. I think this is a great novella for anyone who is a die heart romantic and likes a little more spice then the typical romance novel. Be sure to check this one out.
3.5 stars. I thought this was a pretty decent novella, considering it was short and free. I like the modern day-ness of it - strangers with a texting flirtation. Sexy and a little kinky (they like to watch) too, but not overly graphic. I liked all the characters, and would like to read more. Speaking of which, there are two sequels, both expanding on other characters introduced here. This book was 83 pages (per kindle) and currently free. Book 2 is listed at 77 pages and costs $4.31, and book 3 is listed at 28 pages (surely that's an error??) and is $4.31. That pricing is a little steep for a less than 100 page novella. Even if one factored in the first one as free and took the average, that's still pricey for novella length. And I'm cheap when it comes to my kindle indie romances. These should be $.99. So I guess I'll never find out what happens next.
This was a surprisingly fun read - I found myself really wanting the two of them to work things out, and for the 'Text Girl" to be revealed sooner rather than later. I liked that Ariel was a convincing heroine, not afraid to go out and have a good time but also very responsible and dedicated to creating a better life for herself. Travis is a good guy, and you can understand his frustration at having lost track of his sister. There are a lot of loose ends in this novella, but that's actually a good thing - the story will continue, from what I understand, and having everything wrapped up neatly in 80-some pages would have been a deal-breaker for me. A few more clues about the sister's disappearance would have been nice, and I want more info about her Ariel's friend --- suppose that's a set-up for another novella!
For a story that places two people who started out texting and turns into love, it didn't have many of those elements needed. Very little actual romance, the sex was tepid at best and the conversations seemed stilted. The first encounter between Travis and Ariel, using fake names and with their best friends, was actually the best part of the book. This took place before they realized they were text buddies. After making the discovery, both Travis and Ariel change and not in a manner that I would have liked. There was just nothing in this book that really kept my interest for long and while waiting to hopefully get some type of meaningful discussion from them...it was over. Not recommended reading for either romance or erotica readers.
Marine Travis Donovan is on the hunt for his missing sister, and the only lead he has is her old cell phone number. That number now belongs to Ariel Winston. After texts sent to his sister reached Ariel instead, the two of them formed a kind of friendship. When Travis arrives in town to look for his sister, the two meet without realizing they are the text 'pen pals.'
This story was a very steamy read. The serendipitous meeting and subsequent discovery felt very natural and believable, and the chemistry between the two was flaming. A recommended read for anyone who appreciated a hot Marine showing off his specialized training.
Text Me was an unexpected basis for a story. I really enjoyed it. Travis and Ariel meet in person after "meeting" by text. She had his sister's old phone number and he was trying to reach his sister.
They are instantly attracted when they meet, neither realizing that they have been texting all along to each other. It was only supposed to be a one night stand to scratch an itch. But an accidental encounter and they just don't want to say good bye.
Well written and enjoyable characters in Travis and Ariel and their best friends Goodwin and Mary Ellen. I make it sound dry! It wasn't! The sex was hot! The characters great! The story line fun! Go read it! You won't be sorry.
This was a short cute read, it was smexy and left me wanting more!! The only problem was the ending! That pissed me as it literally leaves you hanging as to finding out about his sister..will he find or anything? You don't know! Of course you have to check out the next book but for the price of this short read, I at least expected a little something to go on... Not just them finding each other because this whole thing is based on him finding her (sister) but I don't think it will leave me reading the next one..
This got 3 stars because it was cute and in some parts were quite sexy, I liked how he found out she was 'Text Girl' but it wasn't brilliant or anything, just cute and sweet...
I really liked the idea of this story. Overall, it was a good quick read. The sex scenes were hot and the characters, likable. I think this could have even been made into a longer, full length book. My only issue would be the last sex scene in the story. It seemed like a whole different character. I liked the way the author depicted Travis throughout until that point. Then it was like 'whoa, what happened here?'. Other than that, I enjoyed 'Text Me' and would recommend it for a quick, few hour enjoyment.
Found this one as a free ebook. I had to suspend reality to get into this...
2 best friends who prefer one night stands and just so happen to be totally cool with sharing and/or swapping the guy(s) they bring home happen to meet 2 Marines who just so happen to enjoy swapping and/or sharing women. And one of the Marines turns out to be the mystery wrong-number texter she's been carrying on with.
So yeah, not a very likely plot, but it was a quick read, and the smut wasn't bad. After readings a few books with heavier themes recently, this was a nice retreat.
synopsis: travis is on the lookout for his sister, whom he hasn't heard from in years. when he texts her number, a woman named ariel answers back. they start up a texting relationship, which seems to take over their lives. ariel and thomas meet, but they don't know that they do. when they finally figure it out, anyting can happen.
what i liked: the premise. they had chemistry while they were texting.
what i didn't like: the characters felt more like outlines, and the story itself felt more like a bare bones effort than any real effort to tell a story.
I liked the story because I actually know a couple who got married by meeting way of an accidental text message. The male main character Travis Donavan is searching for his sister and text messages Ariel Mackenzie by accident. She replied back with the wrong number / and a text message friendship starts up. When Travis comes to Ariel's hometown fate has a way of showing up.
I was disappointed with the ending. I was expecting more with the search of his sister.
Interesting to say the least! Trav is out on leave from the marine corps and in search of his sister. To his surprise he is texting her cell to find out it belongs to someone else. Ariel is a master degree student who is also working at her parents camp. She is the holder of the cell phone Trav thought was his sister's. After a chance meeting these two find there may be more than just a text and one night stand....
Bring on the fates and align the stars with this book. Staff sergeant Travis, lost contact with his younger sister, Sarah. With only way to contact her, he texts the cell phone number that he has. But the number is no longer Sarah’s, its Ariel number. The saying it’s a small world kept coming to my mind as I was reading this book. Interestingly written was a tad short on the length of the book. Otherwise, it was a good read.
Novellas make it difficult to write enough to interest the reader, build characters, and still keep it short. This story was ok, but not great. The concept was unique, but made it difficult to really build chemistry. I'm glad this was free.
This is another new author for me. I liked this book. It was a quick read. The characters were very believable. It seemed to me that they hooked up really fast but this is only my opinion. Now I have to wait for the next book to see if they find Sarah. Be prepared for some wild sex but it is still pretty tame as most sex scenes go.I think you should give this book a try. Add it to your library.
This was a very hot and steamy quick read that also had a very interesting premise. It combined a military hero with a social work student and the beginnings of the search for the hero's missing sister. I whipped through this book very quickly and was satisfied with the ending. I never realized that it was part of a series! I will be checking for the others in the series!
