Takasu Ryuuji thought that his ill-fated luck had turned around now that he was in Junior High and sitting next to the girl of his dreams, Minori Kushieda. Ryuuji was wrong; for after he unwittingly crossed the most feared and fearsome girl in school, Taiga Aisaku, everything went off the deep end!
It’s taken time, but Ryuuji and Taiga have slowly found some common ground and can at least tolerate each other. The problem is everyone in Ryuuji’s class is now convinced that he and Taiga are dating?even Minori! To make matters even more embarassing, Minori has given Ryuuji and Taiga her blessing. How’s Ryuuji ever going to win Minori’s heart now?!
Yuyuko Takemiya (竹宮 ゆゆこ Takemiya Yuyuko) is a Japanese writer of light novels. Takemiya debuted in September 2004 with her light novel series Watashitachi no Tamura-kun (Our Tamura-kun) which first appeared in the autumn 2004 issue of Dengeki hp Special, a special edition version of Dengeki hp. That same month, Takemiya worked on the scenario for the bishōjo game Noel by FlyingShine (also known for creating Cross Channel).
Following the completion of Watashitachi no Tamura-kun, Takemiya began her best-known series, Toradora!, which she declared to be complete in April 2010 after ten volumes and three spin-off books. The first book of her next series, Golden Time, was Dengeki Bunko's 2000th published light novel. Takemiya launched the manga series Evergreen with artist Akira Kasukabe on July 19, 2011 in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Daioh Genesis quarterly magazine.
This book has just become one of my favourite volumes of manga.
Book one left you understanding the complicated relationship between Taiga and Ryuuji. Taiga likes Ruuji's friend, Ryuuji likes Taiga's friend. The first book ended with everyone thinking Taiga and Ryuuji were dating.
If you were unfamiliar with Toradora and it's characters, you could be forgiven for thinking that Taiga is dispicable. She is cruel and seemingly heartless. Book two smashes that away within the first few pages and really changes to tone of the story. The first half, maybe two thirds of this book is spectacular as far as I'm concerned, and concentrates making Taiga and Ryuuji's lives far more difficult than they need to be, through no fault of their own. You completely feel for both of them as their situation, while utterly bizarre on the one hand, is easy to relate to.
The last chunk introduces a new character, Ami who I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE. God DAMN she makes me angry and she's only been in the story a few chapters. I remember I didn't like her from watching the anime but I could not remember why. Apparently my brain chose to block her out completely because she is HORRIBLE.
In the last two years of dating a weeaboo, I've learned that manga and anime aren't really for me. I don't know exactly what it is, but they just don't click for me, and I am always left feeling like something was missing from my reading/watching experience. The one exception (for anime) is Toradora!, which I watched and loved two years ago. I'm reading the manga adaptation now as a personal project, and if I'm being completely honest, I'm not enjoying it nearly as much as the anime. In general, it just isn't really doing it for me, but I do have a couple of specific complaints to share as well.
The main problem I have with this volume of the manga, and the manga in general, is that lots of the speech bubbles don't have tails pointing to who said the dialogue, so half the time I'm not sure who's speaking and have to re-read pages several times over to try and figure it out. Occasionally, I give up completely and carry on without knowing who said what. It's a cosmetic issue, but one that is seriously detracting from my enjoyment of the story. I don't know much about manga -- perhaps this is a common issue? -- but it seems like a major stylistic error and it is making the manga very confusing and unsatisfying to read.
I'm also not supper impressed by the plotting so far. From what I remember, the plotting of the anime is cohesive and fluid, but the manga has not managed to mimic this so far. The narrative does not flow well at all and feels stilted and disjointed. I really thought I would have more to say on the matter, but I guess I don't. I'm just not a fan of the way the plot flows, because it doesn't flow. It's blocky and chunky and all the other words used to describe a book with pacing issues.
I'm intending to finish the entire manga series by the end of February, so hopefully the next volumes are more impressive than this one. I know that my personal dislike of manga (based purely on the fact that manga/anime narratives just don't click with me tonally) is skewing my rating and enjoyment, but whatever.
Rumors are going around that both ml and fl are in a relationship when they are not and just trying to set each other up to their best friends.Taiga confessed to her crush(kitamura-ml best friend) as readers we find out that kitamura confessed to taiga a year ago but got rejected. kitamura rejects taiga because he beliveves taiga and takasu would be a great couple.takasu starts to care for taiga since she is a mess and ensures she has food to eat and etc.they have grown closer together. Both have not acknowledged theirs feeling for each other yet.but there is a bit where when taiga is confessing to her crush and out of nervousness she goes "ryuuji is a really good cook!he always makes me really yummy fried rice! and he's always there when i need him to be! nobody else ever is,except for him! and i like being with him too! i want to be with him as much as i can! i wish he was here right now.without him around,it doesn't feel right.my chest feels tight it's hard to breathe. I've felt this way ever since he's been there for me".Ryuuji over hears the whole conversation by accident.he does listen to her problems in life(parents).I love this manga series it is very nice and klm aint too bad or too good

Another fun entry in the "Toradora!" series that finds Ryuuji and Taiga dealing with the consequences of their plan to work together to get their respective crushes to for them when they believe Ryuuji and Taiga are dating. Yuyuko Takemiya has fun with the premise, showing why it's understandable everyone thinks their dating now (they have been hanging out a lot lately) while also delving deeper into their characters. Takemiya also has fun with the romantic comedy tropes, and while you know where the story is going, it is still fun to get there. Remains one of the better romance manga's in recent years.
I absolutely love this manga. Probably one of my favorite top mangas for me. The series is so funny and witty. I love Taiga’s and Ryūji’s friendship/relationship? The way how they became close to one another so far without intentionally attempting to is so cute and sweet. Im excited to read more about their adventure together.
This was much improved over volume 1. The personalities of the tiger (Tora) and the dragon (Dora) have been fleshed out and they are interesting characters. I was about to give it 5 stars until I read the extra chapter.
I really enjoyed the little changes from the anime in this volume. The core is still intact but just enough is different to make it feel fresh. The interaction with Taiga and Ami is great. Can't wait for the drama to continue unfolding in volume 3.
OK this really grew on me. The art on the main character's facial reactions to absurd moments in the story were amazing. I'm definitely roped in and will be reading the rest of this series.
