This was my first exposure to the concept of self-hypnosis (I was 12.) I wouldn't understand its power for another 15 years, but now that I do, I recommend this book to everyone.

Yo this book garbo. Of its 20+ chapters literally one is devoted to actual self-hypnotism and the rest are on topics such as "curing your allergies through self-suggestion" and "women socially condition themselves into having period cramps"

that being said the self-hypnosis techniques kinda work and are worth a try for the fun of it alone

It's hard for me to rate this book. On the one hand, it taught me how to self-hypnotize, which on its own is a very nice thing. Self-hypnotism is something I have tried in the past, and had not yet succeeded at. Now that I have experienced it, I can really understand the value of self-hypnotism as a tool to better understand yourself, and to heal yourself. So for that I am grateful to have found this book. But I suspect I could have easily found a better and more modern treatment of the subject. This book is pretty outdated in a lot of ways.

Interesting concepts, but outdated, misogynistic and superficial.

I first read this book when I was 12 years old. That fact alone tells you everything about why it worked.

At 12, I hadn't yet built the walls. I hadn't accumulated the skepticism, the analytical filters, the reflexive need to explain what was happening before I allowed myself to experience it. I simply read the instructions and followed them — and what happened next changed the way I understand consciousness forever.

I left my body.
Not metaphorically. I would lie on the couch, follow LeCron's induction exactly as written, and then move through the room, down the hall, out the front door, without my physical body going anywhere. I was fascinated. I was also completely unafraid, because at 12 you don't yet have a framework that tells you it's impossible.

I came back to this book in 2023 and again in 2024. It still works. The techniques are sound, LeCron's clinical precision holds up, and something real happens when you follow his method faithfully. But I could no longer move outside my body. I could reach the threshold and feel the pull, and then the adult mind would reassert itself, measuring the experience instead of living it.

That difference is the most honest review I can give.

The book hasn't changed. I have. LeCron is describing a door that is always open. Whether you can walk through it depends entirely on how much of yourself you're willing to leave on the other side of belief.

Read it. Especially if part of you still remembers being 12.

This is the first book I read. I was 15 years old and since then I have not stopped reading. Today, I write personal development books.

I read this in high school and used many of the techniques in this book to a great advantage. Unfortunately I lost the skill over the years.

Classic by a mainstream author

Leslie M. Lecron is well known as a mainstream specialist in the technique and understanding of the hypnosis process. What you are looking at is a classic. He may be a little Freud happy; however, so was everyone else in his environment. Say what you will the concept of triggering events is still with us. There is only one diagram of a Cheurel Pendulum "Magic Eye" and no photographs. Instead of me trying to interpret the good, bad, and ugly of this book I will write the chapter titles so you can decide if this is what you are looking for.

1. What you should know about your subconscious
2. How you can communicate directly with your “inner mind”
3. Hypnosis: A powerful force for good
4. Self-Hypnosis gives you the key to a happier life
5. How the use of autosuggestion can improve your life
6. Eliminate emotional troubles from your life
7. How bad emotions figure your health
8. The value of positive thinking and healthful relaxation
9. How to overcome feelings of inferiority and poverty “Complex”
10. How to conquer bad habits and overcome pain
11. Heal your emotional scars
12. Fears and phobias can be conquered
13. Keep slim and youthful without dieting
14. Never suffer from headaches again!
15. The key to a happier sex life
16. Master your emotions and overcome allergies
17. common ailments and how self-therapy helps your remedy them
18. You have the power!
