Let me start by saying that I love working at the library! I find lots of fun books while shelving, like the I Spy series that my kids and I enjoyed when they were younger. Where are the dolphin and broom?
These are a bit too complicated for my son right now, but I got him the OG themes that I loved as a kid. I can't wait to pore over these pages again. I could look at these for hours as a kid.
Healing my inner child by buying and reading this book! I would stare at this book for what felt like hours as a kid at the library. It's as magical as I remember it being! The gem filled dove & mermaid cove are my favorites. This book is an inspiration! I want to make my own I Spy book with my own trinkets!
The term Greatest Of All Time gets thrown around a lot these days. Its overuse unfortunately lessens the original sentiment of being the best version of something. That being said, I Spy Fantasy is the GOAT.
Beautiful pictures which have obviously been well thought out: an excellent imagination building exercise and will help build observational skills in the young and old alike.
This series of books are ones you'll turn to again and again for the littles and tweens. After we found all the clues, we'd make up our own challenges for each other. Great quiet time fun!
I Spy Fantasy by Jean Marzollo is one of the early book in the I Spy series. This one as the title implies has a fantasy theme.
The book has some of the most beautiful and trickiest picture puzzles of all the books we own. There is one page made up of costume jewelry in the shape of a dove. After three years of reading and re-reading the book we're still not sure we've found all the correct pieces to answer the riddle!
My personal favorite page is the science fiction moon base made out of common kitchen items like colanders, whisks and the like. At first glance it's a very convincing otherworldly set and it's fascinating to look at all the details that have gone into making it.
The riddles are by Jean Marzollo and the photography and set building is by Walter Wick.
My toddler is a visual learner and loves all of the I Spy books. She always has one or two checked out from the library. They have been great vocabulary builders for her because there are so many items in the pictures that I would not otherwise think to show her. I do not usually read the text to her. We enjoy talking about what she sees, or I will randomly choose things to tell her I spy, and she looks for them. Sometimes, we will look for the items listed in the text together.
The puzzles and photography in this I Spy volume are almost absurdly good. When my family and I first went through this book, the photography was so stunning that it elicited gasps from us all as each new page was turned. There really isn't anything else out there like these books. Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick stand alone on a level of quality that they themselves have created.
I have four children and we own each " I spy " book. These books are truly our favorite and they are not just for the young. Each picture makes them think, explore, and problem solve all on their own in a very different way. Ethan had cancer as a kid and these books are amongst the things that got us through the series of hospitalizations over 18 months.
I have always loved the ispy books. And that hasn't changed now- I love the mysteries and the things not being as they first appear, it's definitely a nostalgic hobby that I still Enjoy in my 20s. If only they printed more.
This one is pretty good, I like the others better but that's okay! It was fun and it entertained my nephews a lot.
I love this series, and while I haven't read nearly all of them yet, this is my favorite so far. From an enchanted woodland scene, to a giant sand castle, as well as an odd space-station-esque scene made almost entirely from metal (including dishes and utensils), this volume combines the typical creativity and attention to detail with even more than the usual dose of imagination.
My granddaughter loved this book, although it's more of older kids. she loved pointed out the pictures she knew, or point out the pics I did & repeating the words.
