I was raised in Alabama, so I know we Southerners don't hide our crazy people—we showcase them. Eccentric people make for the best stories, and we Southerners do love our stories. The need to tell stories has been a driving force in my life from childhood.

As a girl, my favorite books were mysteries and romances. When I realized there were books that featured both romance and mystery, I knew I'd found my calling. Now I get to play both matchmaker and murderer and get paid for it. Could there be a better job anywhere?

The book started off promising with a tornado and then the rescue of a little girl who was about to plummet into a rising creek. After that, the main storyline took over and then the book lost its momentum for me. Mariah and Jake are being hunted down by Victor--former mentor to Mariah turned murderer, who is seeking revenge against Mariah. I didn't care for Mariah or Jake and thought they were an uninteresting pair. They have been married for three years, but their relationship has been based on nothing but secrets and lies, mostly on Mariah's part. I never understood why Mariah kept her past a secret from her husband, it didn't make much sense to me.

As for the suspense, when Mariah and Jake are being pursued by the bad guys, they seem to have no survival instincts at all. It's as if they are just waiting around for the bad guys to come and get them...like there is no sense of urgency, whatsoever. Some of their actions were nonsensical and stupid and made me give up all hope for them. It was surprising that they made it to the end of the book alive. All of the storylines did not wrap up in this book, which I'm thinking will be carried on to the next books in the series.

After a tornado causes damaged to the town they are staying in, the hero Jake and the heroine Mariah help to restore. Mariah is nervous about being in the town as she previously lived there but left after testifying against the man who killed her fiancé, whom she once considered to be a father figure. She doesn't realise that he is now out of prison and after seeing her on TV is coming after her. Mariah never told Jake about her past, but is forced to come clean when both of them are kidnapped this man. Held hostage, they are have to rely on each other in order to try and escape not knowing whether they will live another day or be able to repair the damage don to their marriage.

I found this to be a well written, exciting and suspense packed book. I really liked the story, it wasn't overly complicated and this made it flow really well. I liked the character of Mariah, she is well developed and it was great that she was written with a bad start in live but has managed to make a decent(ish) life for herself. I actually empathised with her reasons for keeping her past a secret. Although she did seem to forget about her son an awful lot...! I wasn't so keep on Jake as a character. Sure, he was protective and everything but he seemed a little hypocritical, and his own 'secrets' didn't really hit the mark for me.

This is fast paced and exciting, the 'action' scenes are well written and detailed, which really helped to involve me in the story.

This book is actually the first in a mini-series by Paula Graves 'Cooper Justice: Cold Case Investigation', and the lead-in to the follow on books was interesting. If/when they are released in the UK then I will look to read them.

Hitched and Hunted book # 5 in this series was a book you couldn't put down it you wanted to. Lies before/ now / and sometimes later the lies will come out either it will distroy the marriage or it will make the marriage strong. That is the case here, after serving an F5 tornado Husband and Wife Copper was helping out with the after math when a blast from the past walked in to see if he have some water, when she seen him and the fight to run away was strong, but when they are kidnapped and the truth starts to come out surprises comes out on both side. Now on the run to stay alive they start to tell each other the lies they hid from each other before its to late for the marriage or their lives.

Tried out a little Intrigue for a change. This is about a husband and wife who've been skimming the surface for the last three years of their marriage. Mariah has some secrets, so even though she feels her husband Jake is not being completely open to her, she doesn't probe, afraid he will ask questions about her own past. As it is, just about everything she has told him about her childhood, the father of her little boy Micah and even her name, is a lie.

So when Victor, the man who murdered her boyfriend all those years ago, turns up when they are on a fishing trip without little Micah, Mariah knows it isn't going to end well.

This is an action fest, with Jake and Mariah first caught up in a tornado in the small town of Buckley, hours away from home. IN the aftermath, they run into Victor who intends to make Mariah pay for putting him into jail for manslaughter.

From there, Jake and Mariah are kidnapped, on the run, hiding out, injured. All the while trying to figure out what this means to their marriage. Because all the lies and evasions are over. Only the truth will help from now on.

We get to see more Cooper boys briefly and of course we get our Happy Ending.

Hitched and Hunted was suspenseful from beginning to end. One of my favorite things about Paula Graves writing style is that she keeps the reader in doubt of the main characters ability to reach the genre's expected happily ever after, or even the end of the story. Well written and scary story. Loved it.
