Sex Symbol

Rate this book
Lucy Harper always thought of herself as an ordinary woman, but she suddenly finds herself in extraordinary circumstances. Her sleepy hometown of Peace, Mississippi, turns out to be far from peaceful, what with shapeshifters, vampires and other departures from the “good ol’ Southern boy” stereotype cropping up. Her best friends are all hiding devastating secrets. Her ex-boyfriend is suddenly interested in making up. Her sexy new boyfriend is not only the hottest guy she’s ever met, he’s got some pretty big secrets himself, including what he really is and what he does—besides providing the best sex she’s ever had, that is.

And her new tattoo might be more than a picture of her favorite flower—according to the local werewolf pack, it’s a “sex symbol”. There may be a fight to the death over who gets to claim her as mate.

I write what I enjoy in the hopes that others will enjoy it as well. I've always been drawn to the macabre. Vampires, werewolves, you name it.

I've never written about the paranormal because it's popular. I do it because that's what I'm interested in. If the vampire fad ever passes, I'll still be sitting here in my Dracula cape, getting my fang on.

I downloaded Sex Symbol as a free ebook from Amazon. I have to admit, although the plot is pretty transparent, the characters and writing hooked me right away. I enjoyed Lucy and her circle of friends. This was a great afternoon read.

Sex Symbol?

The title and book description really did not connect with the story. Overall, the story was ok. This story needed more than one point of view. That would’ve made a huge difference.

Wasn't sure at the beginning, but glad I stuck with it as after Eramus and Lucy met, it got much better.

It was an entertaining story. I won't go into details but Erasmus was wow. I would have dropped everything else in my life just to be with him. I enjoyed this story. Read the epub version.

A real gem full of twists to keep the reader interested; it's hard to put down. Top notch banter and sarcasm galore; a very funny read. Steamy sex scenes pull in the imagination and send it over the edge. Would highly recommend.

Shifter books are hit or miss for me.
When done right (see Patricia Briggs) it can be very good.
This book felt like reading porn with random storyline thrown in between sex scenes to try to make a book.

Lucy is from a small town, to which I can definitely relate, and is part owner of a decorating business with her best friend. Justina couldn't be more outgoing or outspoken and the pair have a good relationship as both businesswomen and friends. To Lucy, things that happened in the past are best left in the past, but there's one part of her past that won't stay there... the man that broke her heart a year ago. After an emotional run-in with James and learning of an unconfirmed rumor, Lucy turns to her friends for comfort and each one has their own recipe for mending a broken-heart. Alcohol, dirty-dancing, and sex play a big part of it, and you know what they say... the best way to get over a man is to get under a new one!

You really just jump right into the story with this book. Ms. Kitts writes hilarious dialogue for her characters. There were several times I actually laughed out loud and not just in my head! Still there's so much mysterious sexiness surrounding Lucy's new next-door neighbor, Erasmus, that I couldn't put the book down until I found out more about him. Take for example chapter one's first sentence, “My next-door neighbor was the hottest thing on two legs.” Kind of makes you want to read more doesn't it?

Ms. Kitts can also write some serious sexual tension and frustration. The sex scenes were inspiring – from character positioning, dialogue, and settings. They were also as much of a relief for me when they were finally revealed as it was for our heroine Lucy (lucky girl). What I really appreciated though was the finding of love before becoming a willing victim to lust. The scenes are much more intense and satisfying when emotions are involved.

The rest of the cast of characters just fit so well together and each has their own distinct personality, it was like watching an episode of Friends. The witty banter and creative plot were so well incorporated that I couldn't help but put myself in the story and wish I was actually there with friends like these. The cover alone will grab any readers' attention, but the story will keep it.

Recommended reading for fans of good friends, margaritas, and dancing.

This is the first novel I read from this author and though it was slow at first, things sped up after Lucy finally sleeping with her long-time platonic friend, Ozzy. The first person point of view was used effectively, and I liked the small secluded town setting. There were fewer characters and I appreciated it, the author described everything and wrote character backgrounds through Lucy and I really appreciated it. I hate those novels that made me feel I stumbled in the middle of something.

So, Lucy is currently nursing a broken heart and I just felt for her. After three years of being in a relationship with James he just broke things off because of another one. So she just stared and ogled at her hot and sexy new next-door neighbor for three weeks before talking to him. Before this she gets totally drunk and had sex with Oz and it was cool between them afterward. So she and Eramus got to know each other when he confessed he's a retired bounty hunter specializing with werewolves, and that he became one.

Things got more fast-paced from there, with werewolves chasing Lucy, her best friend's ex suddenly showed up and he's a werewolf too, and she bears a sex symbol, a rose tattoo and she's the supposed mate of an alpha male. Given the title I was expecting a lot of sex but there were only a few, and the graphic violence was described vividly.

I liked this a lot because it talked a lot about relationships - friendship between two women, a woman and a man, betrayals between friends you thought you knew, getting over something and starting a new relationship. I was touched with all those, it was unexpected in this novel. The paranormal angle gave it a twist though, it reminded me of the Sookie Stackhouse series because of the Southern state location, small town, people not what they seem. So, I'm reading the books in my queue next, since this is one of the few in my challenge.

Sex Symbol was one thrilling read chock full of suspense, sex, otherworldly and great personality.

Lucy Harper had me tickled from the beginning. I loved how she fit in wherever she was and her respect of everyone’s privacy. I’ve rarely seen heroines who didn’t ask a million questions or who were satisfied with only knowing what people allowed them to see, so in this Lucy is a breath of fresh air in a smog filled world. As the story evolved I witnessed growth as she interacted with the two heroes in the story. While I feel that her time spent deliciously with her best friend, and then further on with her man helped her fit in where she needed to be more.

It was hard watching her struggle with letting go from her past relationship to embracing the future, something which is hard for anyone to do.

I won’t touch much on Oz and the sexy neighbour. The two males gave me much delight. No spoilers from me. Add in her best friend Justina and Chase and you have a great rapport of sorts. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and its ending, it’s definitely a must have.

If there’s one thing I could touch on it’d be having the heroine addressed by her first name in the beginning of the story by one of the other characters or even in self -reflection. I find in first person it’s hard to relate to, no matter how fantastic the story is. All in all though, this is one of my favourite first person stories I’ve ever read.

I have read the other reviews and clearly am in the minority when I say this story sucked. A former werewolf bounty hunter, who was the progeny of a werewolf bounty hunter, becomes a werewolf himself. The story never mentions gramps trying to kill hus grandson so it was just odd that the author kept mentioning his lineage. Lucy made my teeth hurt. One minute she was a vixen and the next a victim running from a werewolf through the woods. Justina's ex being a werewolf was a totally random an unecessary plot twist. The author could have informed the reader about Oz being an assassin a different way. All in all it was a waste of money for me.

Funny, smart and sexy with characters who are somehow both believable and larger than life, good pacing and plotting that focused heavily on relationship-building. The beginning (Lucy drunk/drugged at the bar) and the denouement (Lucy's lover vs the villainous werewolf who tried to have Lucy mated to him against her will) were a bit wait, what? at times, but overall the story is really well done and fun. I'm looking forward to trying more by this author.

I really liked this book. Sorry, not much in me tonight for a good review. It is a lot bloody, and a lot of hot sex. Wish we had more with Justine and Chase.
