Quite an entertaining read, but I can't find any evidence that a word of it is true or that the author even existed.

Wow, 2011 me was way more harsh than 2017 me. I only rated this book three stars? I'm not entirely sure how it ended up in my then small collection, but it was there and unread. It wasn't like any book I'd read before; I wasn't much into war books back then (I'm probably not now either, honestly?) But the complete difference in genre for me was a wake up and I ended up liking this book very much (which is why I'm confused with the three stars? Bad day, maybe)
I'd have to read it again to refresh my memory, but this book was definitely good and worth a read. Three stars, apparantly. haha.

This is reasonably entertaining but very silly historical fiction presented as history. It was written before Martin Bormann's body was found and its identity confirmed by DNA testing. Unfortunately some people will be so naïve that they will uncritically accept as genuine the pseudohistorical presentation, which cannot be taken very seriously and I don't think was intended to be taken as such.

Christopher Creighton’s OP JB isn’t a book.
It’s a confession slipped through the cracks of empire — the kind of confession that forces the Establishment to react like a kicked hornet’s nest.
The official screams of “impossible!” and “childish fantasy!” weren’t literary criticism.
They were panic.
Because Creighton didn’t just write a spy story.
He tore the veil on the biggest taboo of WWII:
That the Third Reich’s real masters weren’t in Berlin — they were in London, New York, and Basel.
And Martin Bormann wasn’t Hitler’s loyal lieutenant.
He was their man on the inside.
The Night Critics Lost Their Minds
When the book came out, reviewers attacked it like it was radioactive. And yet…
not a single one of those loud-mouthed academics touched the $30,000 prize for debunking it.
Not one.
Not even for fun.
Not even to “prove” Creighton was a lunatic.
Because you can mock a man.
What you don’t do is pick a fight with intelligence agencies that have eighty years of cleanup behind them.
Coordinated Discrediting: MI-6’s Fingerprints Are All Over It
Right when OP JB launched:
• A rival book magically appears claiming Bormann died in Berlin.
• MI-6’s old “fake Bormann” hoax re-enters the news cycle.
• Journalists receive ready-made talking points.
• The mainstream line is aggressively synchronized.
That isn’t coincidence.
That’s an operation.
And the purpose was clear:
Bury the idea that Bormann survived.
Because if Bormann survived, the entire WWII mythology collapses.
Why Was Creighton Allowed to Publish at All?
This is where the story turns sickening.
Winston Churchill personally gave Creighton permission — posthumously — to tell the story “excluding matters that must never be revealed.”
Why such a cryptic blessing?
Because Creighton wasn’t merely a spy.
He was a groomed asset — highly probably sexually exploited as a youth by Churchill, Mountbatten, and John Godfrey/Morton.
And powerful men have a strange loyalty to their “special projects.”
Call it guilt.
Call it sentiment.
Call it the twisted paternalism of old predators.
But they let their golden boy speak — because they believed the truth had been so warped, so inverted, so twisted, that no one would ever untangle it.
And mostly… he didn’t speak the forbidden parts.

As many researchers have confirmed — MI-6’s Morton Section and the CIA skimmed off the loot, shifted it into offshore fronts, and rebuilt their post-war power through it.
Victims got crumbs.
War criminals got contracts.
Banks got richer.
That’s the real “economic miracle.”
The Real Bormann: The World’s Most Protected Agent
The version Creighton implies beneath the surface is far uglier:
• Bormann didn’t defect.
• He didn’t surrender assets.
• He wasn’t a defeated Nazi.
He was a long-term embedded asset of the same transnational cabal that bankrolled Bolshevism, built Hitler, and reshaped the post-war world.
That’s why he lived.
In Creighton’s account:
• He lived in England from 1945–1956
• He traveled to South America repeatedly
• He helped reorganize Nazi networks
• When his presence became risky, his alias “died”
• He relocated permanently to Argentina
• He died in Paraguay in 1959
This version is consistent with post-war intelligence chatter, South American witness reports, and U.S. military intelligence documents declassified in the 1990s.
It is also consistent with how MI-6 protected other Nazi assets: Gehlen, Skorzeny, Müller, Barbie, and the entire ODESSA pipeline.
The Forbidden Layer: Who Really Ran the War
• The Nazis were not sovereign.
• They were steered at the top by the Anglo-American-Zionist banking cartel.

This reads like a great WW2 movie. Some of its perspectives vary from the official institutional narrative. And that's what makes it interesting. The detail seems authentic as does the tone of voice in the writing. It's highly plausible that the story is authentic. Though I'm open to it being fictional.

Unfortunately I read this book from cover-to-cover with a nagging doubt about its authenticity*. No doubt I’m doing Creighton a huge disservice, but I found the whole Fleming/James Bond adventure too unbelievable. The publishers provide a broad disclaimer that the ‘facts’ cannot be verified, so we have to believe CC that he was part of the ultra-secret wartime ‘M’ section (M for Morton) engaged in a mission to extract Martin Boorman (Hitler’s 2nd in command and heir), from the burning Berlin, evading the Russians as they kayaked out of the city. I wanted to like this more, but I found CC’s voice too contrived and stilted, a lack of urgency and pace despite the promising raw material
*November 2025: I can confirm that this is a fiction, supposedly the first of a John Ainsworth-Davis Series. I can only find 1 other book, a prequel, 'The Final Mountbatten Report'.

Absolutely riveting and shocking read about a young Englishman's work as an undercover agent for the UK government during the second world war. Said to be a true story and I believe it. Highly recommended reading especially for second world war addicts. I have just bought 'The Final Mountbatten Report' which is a natural follow up, by Greg Hallet.

One of the best reads I have had in a while that leaves you wondering if you just read a a work of historical fact or historical fiction.
Was such an interesting supposition that I went and read the other novels on this subject from authors like Hugh Trevor-Roper, Richard Davenport-Hines, Backhouse, Stone, Heidmann - even Jukau and Bullock.
Highly recommended - its well written entertainment.

Two stars because although it's an interesting story thats all it seems to be. This book doesn't seem to meet the test of reality. If this is true it would be one of the most amazing British commando operations of all time. I don't believe it.

Any Canadian wondering how Dieppe could have happened should read this book. If true, thousands of lives were sacrificed for political reasons or should I say murdered!
