I've just read Texas Tempest by Linda Broday and loved it. I was told all the stories in the anthology revolve around the same event in the town and all weave together. I'll be going back through to read all of them.

But for now, watching Tempest find her man she's gonna have forever with was a joy! I came away with giggles, swooning, and just a happy feel-good vibe.

Jodi Thomas Story Good. Rest Are Dull and Boring. Don’t Recommend.

The first story was by Jodi Thomas and it was well written and entertaining. It wasn’t as well developed as her longer works are, but that’s to be expected with short stories. The hero and heroine were likeable characters but the heroine’s father, sisters, and would-be fiancé were suitably despicable. They were actually slightly over-the-top, with their self-centredness, selfishness, egoism, insensitivity, and casual cruelty. This exaggeration worked well in the short length, however, and quickly established characterization. I would rate this story between a four and a five star review.

Each story was interconnected, revolving around a rodeo in a small Texas town; there were recurring characters from story to story, but each story highlighted a different couple. This was a wonderful idea and the synopsis sounded as if this would be a very entertaining collection of novella length stories. Unfortunately, other stories did not match the quality of Ms. Thomas’ work.

The writing mechanics and editing of all of the stories was good. The problem was that every story after Ms. Thomas’ was flat and dull. The dialogue was wooden in some places, and the stories dragged. There were sections in the stories that were meant to be humorous, but it didn’t work for me. I finished the book, but it was a chore.

This isn’t a clean book, for those who care. There was mild sexual content and mild profanity. On the other hand, the book was pretty innocuous compared to some romance books; I wouldn’t hesitate to let adolescents read the book, but sticklers might find it offensive.

I really didn’t like this book, other than the first story, so I’m glad it was on sale when I bought it. I considered whether I would recommend this book to anyone else and I decided that I wouldn’t. I believe it would appeal to some other readers but I think many readers would be disappointed in it.

Sweet western novellas with different character aspects participating, involved in or just happen upon the town when the annual rodeo is on and shenanigans are highlighted.

All of these stories are loosely connected through the location of Kasota Springs, Texas. Its July and the annual rodeo is about to start.

SILENT PARTNER Jodi Thomas. Rowdy Darnell is trouble; he's just finished a 5-year stint in prison. He has $12 in his pocket and no prospects. Laurel Hayes has been living in another kind of prison gilded to be sure but she is a prisoner at home and her father's bookkeeper. She wants out.

Laurel decides to bank Rowdy to the only money she has so he can win the rodeo and they can split the money and cattle.

LUCK OF THE DRAW by DeWanna Pace. Dally Angelo and Augusta Garrison separated 4 years ago and haven't seen each other since. However, there's a bond between them that time can't erase.

Much of their rift has to do with Bone Buster, a cantankerous bull that killed Dally's father in a bull-riding contest several years before. Dally has sworn that he will ride the bull and his single-minded focus on Bone Buster dissuaded Gus/Augusta from pursuing Dally. Now, Dally, Gus and Bone Buster meet in the rodeo of Kasota Springs.

TEXAS TEMPEST by Linda Broday. If you like your stories a bit over the top, this one will satisfy. Tempest LeDoux is looking for husband #6. She's notorious in Kasota Springs for changing poker rules until she wins and her single-minded focus on finding a new husband.

Into this mayhem rides McKenna Smith, a famous hired gun, often called the Guardian of Justice. Smith plans to leave the next day but a bank robbery in town delays his plans.

ROPING THE WIND by Phyliss Miranda. This is the story of Tempests daughter, Alaine. Shes almost as outrageous as her mother but give her time.

Morgan Payne, Pinkerton agent, is in town to do some sleuthing. He and Alaine cross paths and things are never the same.

Overall: 4 stars.

SITLENT PARTNER:

As usual, Jodi Thomas didn't disappoint. Once again, she's written an amazing book. This story was well written, fast paced with characters you will fall in love with, as with all her books. Whenever I see a book by Jodi, I pick it up without a though.

LUCK OF THE DRAW:

This one was okay, but in my opinion, not well written.

TEXAS TEMPEST:

This one was nothing short of amazing! This is the second book I've read by, Linda Broday, the other being the preceding book, Give Me A Texan. I would put her writing right up there with, Jodi Thomas...she's that good. This story was wonderfully written. I'm an aspiring writer, and was flabbergasted by all the great lines she delivered. The story was fast paces, a great idea, with wonderful characters.

ROPING THE WIND:

Another great story. I also liked her last story she wrote in, Give Me A Texan. I caught myself often smiling because of the great lines she delivered. Great story, well written, with wonderful characters.

Don't miss out on these great stories, written by talented authors.

Four novellas that highlight a single town in Texas--Kasota Springs--and their annual cowboy celebration which they called a "rodeo" for the first time. All the stories relate to the ranches that form the stable society and and around that town and the same prominent people walk through all the stories. However, each novella is built around a different relationship and all are so beautifully written. I don't normally like anthologies, but this book had the sense of a continuing saga rather than an anthology. The stories weren't truly dependent upon one another, but on the other hand they enhanced one another. I was sorry to see it end. Publishes about five years ago, it is still a great addition to one's private library, especially someone who likes those gorgeous Texas cowboys. Just a really fun and entertaining read.

This was an interesting premise. Four authors, four stories, same week in the same town, one batch of characters. Each author took a different couple during a 'rodeo'. The setting, time frame, town, and supporting characters remained the same. Each story can be read separately.
It felt a little 'odd' moving from one story to the next, because the perspective changed, but the events were the same. The stories were all fine, but at the end of the book I felt like it had been disjointed. Perhaps that's unfair, because each individual story was good, but reading them back to back was a bit like jolting back and forth over the same territory. I would recommend putting some space of time between each for a more enjoyable read.

The first story in this western anthology was by Jodi Thomas and was "sweet". It had a somewhat implausible storyline and the ending was a bit over the top.

In reading the 2nd story, I realized all the short stories in this anthology are related, which didn't lend itself well to me given the first story. Then the 2nd story turns out to be a "secret baby" plot and I have lost all interest. Given that I have never even heard of any of these authors other than Jodi Thomas, I'm going to DNF this book and pass it on to someone who might enjoy it.

Give me a Cowboy is a compilation of short stories covering the same event. Each story is written by a different author. It was interesting to see the different points of view and different writing styles as well as each authors treatment of different characters. In general I thought it was well done. I very much liked Linda Broday's and Jodi Thomas' shorts.

I really liked the book. It was another one of those books that has 4 stories by 4 different authors. I liked the book by Jodi Thomas the best but the other writers did a pretty good job. They all wrote their stories about this little town in Texas, Kasota Springs and it was in the late 1800's in the old west.

I was really hoping for contemporary western romance to the tune of Diana Palmer, but no, this is a historical anthology made up of four stories by Jodi Thomas, Dewanna Pace, Linda Broday and Phyliss Miranda. While all the stories were good, I liked Phyliss Miranda's "Roping the Wind" the best.

I love cowboy stories! It was interesting the way that all of the stories connected over the same event, even going so far as to mention characters from other stories and commenting on them. I liked it...
