Theadora Conner lived a quiet, solitary life until she met two strange men one night at a club. Several days later, after a surgically neat kidnapping, she awoke to find that her world has been turned upside down. Told that she was mated to both men and altered to carry their children she finds herself thrown into a world and culture she knows nothing about, one where science, myth, and religion seem to blend seamlessly.
As she tries to accept her new life with Kyrin and Daeshen, her new husbands, a hidden danger stalks the human women. For not all of the Ta’e’sha are happy to accept these women, and one expresses his contempt with his rage.
The name Theolyn Boese is a pen name with a bit of history behind it. Theolyn, pronounced Thay-o-lyn, is my great grandmothers middle name on my mothers side of the family. The closest we've come to finding a definition is "divine lightning" or "power/ruler of the lake/pool/waterfall." It is Old English, but mom's family is from Norway. Boese, pronounced Bay-zee, is my grandmothers maiden name on my fathers side. Dad's family is a tad more colorful. They are from Germany and his grandfather told him that one of the definitions is 'bad'. *grin* From the stories I've heard over the years it is very fitting.
I live in Oregon in the Columbia River Gorge. I started writing when I was in the fourth grade. I was taking special education courses to help me with my dyslexia when my primary teacher decided to have a talented and gifted class for poetry. My S.E. teacher thought it would be good for me and stuck me in it as well. It surprised everyone, including myself, when I took off with it. I've been writing ever since.
I have a Border Collie named Fuzzbutt, two cats, Goblyn and Wisp and assorted freshwater snails and guppies.
Admittedly i only skimmed over the first couple of pages but that already led me to one very interesting conclusion. Immediately prior to this book i read "Comfort Food" by Kitty Thomas, a book containing slavery and heavy-bdsm with no or at best dubious consent throughout the entire story.
Still, i find this book a whole lot creepier and scarier.
In "Comfort Food" at least there is this whole theme and progression of intial resistance, stockholm-syndrom. And the kidnapper remains, despite discovery of his motives, basically a bastard.
But here woman get kidnapped to breed from their homes by gorgous oh so benevolent (although kidnapping) aliens and whoopedy-doo turn into lovesick, starstruck, sexstarved happy fangirls within a single page. Now that is really scary.
I have a tendency to rant, and I know if I start with this one it'll be a long one. So I'm going to try really really hard to make this short, because anyone who looks doesn't deserve to have to go through it, and this thing does not deserve me wasting more time than I already have.
In terms of writing: Not too bad. Like a few others have pointed out, it does indeed get confusing with the switching of points of view. Sometimes in the same damned paragraph, which doesn't help at all. I also sometimes couldn't tell if the author was switching up the characters in the scenes.
In terms of hot stuff: It was pretty good, actually. Some stuff I didn't like, I'm just not that big a fan of spanking and...*shudder* Genital piercings turn me the hell off. (Really, instead of dub-con and bdsm and crap, why couldn't the book premise have a warning about THAT? Eugh.)
In terms of story: Awful. This is where I really need to contain my ranting urges. The basic premise was fine, thus why I got this in the first place, but I greatly regret it. The romance was awful. Characters? I wanted to either pull my hair out at their every action/reaction, or punch most of them. Really hard. The human characters did not seem human at all from how they acted, and the aliens were utterly despicable.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. All books are basically a way to waste your time, but this is a bad, BAD waste of time. And any good in it does not make up the bad.
This book starts off like every other erotic sci-fi romance. Before too long Theolyn Boese drags you in with her great characters and strong storyline. I read this when it first came out in ebook format and have read it umpteen times since. This whole series is wonderful but I don't know where the author has went. I (and other fans) have been waiting for a couple of years for the next installment. The author still has her web site up but hasn't updated it in years and doesn't answer emails. It is such a shame that after three fantastic books that it seems that there won't be anymore.
I enjoyed the concept of this book. I just didn't understand how the heroine was so calm about being abducted and becoming a mate to two alien/merman/shapeshifters. This is a MMF story and I must admit, the sex scenes were steamy! I might check out Book 2.
This was one of those books that I always look again and read it again and again, its that good. But if you are not into some very harsh aspects of life then its not for you. What type of harsh,
But if you want to read it... then go ahead but you are forewarned.
Plot is that another planets' people have to go to Earth to looks for mate or wife because that way they can reproduce. Of course some are happy and some aren't.
I like it that the female main character is strong character not a someone that is weak ... will actually be hysterically in most cases. But you can see this development of her character as the book progresses. She is quiet in the beginning but afterwards she holds strong. And the guys... well they are intense there are into BDSM, but the character likes it that way. And I said its intense... if you are into menage its good.
There are harsh aspects involving the earth women...
This book also involves magic.
Also this book was one of those that I read a long time ago...and have read it again and again.
Kyrin and Daeshen are two men of the Ta'e'sha people, very similar to humans but with the capacity to shapeshift like a merman. In their planet a virus has caused that all the women are sterile, so the Ta'e'sha men have decided to take humans women as brides. Only a little problem, they don't ask to the chosen before the mating. And kidnap them.
Kyrin and Daeshen are also lovers. But in the Ta'e'sha tradition, a family could be of six people, no matters what sex. So they decide to take a humans woman as bride, Theadora, to bear their children.
Kyrin is strong and commanding, Daeshen gentle and analytic. The two match perfectly together and soon also Thea finds her place in this strange family. Thea has been always fascinated by the myth of the sea people and have two of them as husbands are her dreams come true.
The book starts like a sex marathon. Kyrin and Daeshen are two dom and they really impose their attention to Thea. The sex is beautiful and very arousing, but in the first part of the book I can't find Thea. Her figure is faint. She has no voice. Fortunately, she grows strong and finally I discover a sassy woman with a cheerful behaviour.
3.5 stars I'm a bit torn about this book and my review might be a tad spoilerish.
I loved the sci-fi aspect but not so much the mythological god stuff. The sex was pretty hot between Daeshen, Kyrin and Theadora but it sometimes felt a little non-consensual.
Thea gets kidnapped from Earth and brought up to a huge spaceship. She wakes up to find that she's mated to 2 aliens, has had her DNA modified, her pussy is pierced 8 times and she's got tattoo brands on her neck. They keep her lightly sedated so that Dae and Ky can seduce her...and of course she goes along with it.
These aliens need women since most of their females are barren due to a disease outbreak. Human females can thus be "used" to reproduce.
They lose me a little when all the god/goddesses get involved. I'm not too religious and usually don't enjoy lots of mythos in my smut stories. Oh and did I mention that these aliens are mermen!!! Like I wasn't freaked out enough, they can shift in water and get a huge tail. FREAKY.
While reading Daughters of Terra, I was kept in suspended dismay at some of the shenanigans that kept popping up. I found the blurb wasn't a very honest representation of this novel. I was thinking 'ah yeh... another men from Mars novel..." but was confronted with themes I'm comfortable reading but made me squirm with the execution of the writing: kidnapping, forced medical procedures, body piercing without consent... actually a lot of things without consent... as well as rape and murder. I've read other novels in the past where these themes were masterfully handled with strong characterisations, world building and a strong connection to the story. I think where Theolyn Boese failed was with our heroes and heroine. Take for instance our heroine Thea, for someone who had just been kidnapped by ALIENS and modified both genetically and physically, she took it all in like a star fish. There was no fire about her and nothing that I felt was compelling. The heroes came across as bullies who didn't respect human women or culture. I'd rather an insta-love possessive ragebeast than a bully (never thought I'd ever say that). I felt an odd disconnect with the story, even with the tragedy that occurred in the end which would ordinarily have me a blubbering mess in any other novel. I won't be reading the next installation of this series.
Really enjoyed this book. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 in this series. You really feel connected to the characters and their story. It's a good shapeshifter/futuristic novel that will draw you in. There's a mix of erotica, suspense, and a little violence, but it was all handled rather well. You can't help but to fall in love with Kyrin and Daeshen, they're two men any woman would be happy to have. I'm always wary of ménage novels because I end up feeling like someone is the odd man out, but not with this one. Each person seemed to be an equal in this relationship. I would recommend picking this one up.
Okay, I do understand that many people would not like to read this because we are given a glimpse of some pretty dark stuff. However, it is a book that you should read. It tells a great story and has started a series that looks to be promising. The characters are so lovable and the story is great. I could not put it down. This book will definitely bring you on a wild roller-coaster ride of emotions but it is worth the read. I cried and I laughed and got angry but all in all enjoyable.
I love this author and her fantastic world. This family had ups and downs and has come out on top. I hope she comes out with more books on these characters.
I was surprised by how much I liked it. I enjoyed the way the author provided good background details to the different culture. Fair warning, don't read this if you have triggers dealing with rape.
ok, lets see, the reviews range most neg. some are 5 star so I guess I have to read it to make my own conclusion... it does start strange,, looks like mer-people seem to think they are superior but will need human women to further the race or die out... so lets see where this well used plot out.. it is always no women or sterile women and the aliens or in this case mermen need women... humans... I thought it was shifter/werewolves... but I was wrong. I bought the series 'more than one book' so lets see if I wasted my $$ here it goes lets read..
Ok, So kidnapped, drugged, sex given if you want it or not.. she seems to be liking it... I am in the first 25% of this book and Thea is being kept drugged 'not out of her head' but drugged non the less.. and a lot of sex is goin on....she is confused but at this point I believe she has undergone medical DNA changes which will not even allow her to refuse advances by these two MERMEN... KY Seems to be less affectionate, more abrasive... where the other guy in the trio/mate/bond seems more of he caregiver and much more affectionate. KY is more into BDSM He likes to spank our poor girl and I mean she was a virgin so she just does not know what is happening... Not that she did not have a few fantasies from books she had read but she was innocent.. no longer.. not just confused.. it all is to me at this point... Lets see what happens from what I can tell she is just a breeding machine so lets hope a storyline comes out of this piece of lit before it is over..
11/15/12 was a slow read for me,, just not that great... started out with a often heard storyline 'no females. , need to steal some.. sex them up.. which was the good part.. then the drama/crime plot came out and ran very slow... my own preference requires a fast paced suspense/drama scene including sex if reading erotica... but with this book we get into personal thoughts of each person. so it moves from person to person, the thoughts in the head of each person.. makes for a slow read to me...
could have been written just a little different allowing for a faster pace outcome of storyline making it a better score..
The sex scenes were fine, the relationships between main characters were good.. only complaint was the weak plot that ran on and on to long. So now I am on to the second book 'since I already bought it 'some time ago'', it is actually just a continued version of book one, so on going storyline... The devious actions of the diety's the killing they commit upon the people who worship them in the temple did not make sence to me.. so we will see why they have committed these offenses in the end.... just because they had nothing better to do?? or what???
What a wonderfully, unique romance that introduces a magical world of water people and their mysteriously fabulous culture. At first, the story took off like many other sci-fi romances involving beautiful, alien men searching for mates to propagate their species and find human women the answer to all their prayers. Then, as these aliens and their culture/world slowly unfold, a magically splendid world of "mer-people" emerges with characteristics very familiar and similar to our legends of mermaids and mermen. However, there are intricate twists and turns, and this world is shaded in bright, dazzling colors. The humans themselves are not only introduced into this world, but so are some of our oldest beliefs and practices from a spiritual point of view. I loved the emotional aspect that this spiritualism brought to the story. But just as beauty and splendor are wrought in this world, so too must it be balanced by ugliness and evil. It seems one can never exist without the other. As soul-wrenching as it is to experience the heinous, the author has given the reader a gift in allowing a true appreciation of love and beauty. The experience helps tear down our moral insecurities and provides the freedom to appreciate all forms of affection, love, and beauty. The thought and planning of the details that have went into this series is similar to the worlds created in "Game of Thrones" or "Lord of the Rings". Maybe that's somewhat exaggerated, but I'm sure fans of sci-fi romance won't be disappointed. I can't wait to read book #2!
My general problem with dub-con novels is that you dont get kidnapped, bondage raped and fell in love in the first day. Hated the heros... They did not just kidnap women, alter their DNA, remove body hair, pierce them, they also acted like "Ok we did that but our race is in trouble so get over it". Well your race is not going to be saved by her mighty body piercings and shaved vulva buddy, so fck your race. And in the book we learned that not every Ta'e'sha acted like them, some convinced their women on earth before coming on board the ship, gave them choice. Why did we not read one of those men's stories? Why did we have to read the jerks' story? I kept expecting some FFMM action, but did not happen. Of course their women deserves wooing and time. Those problems caused cutting off like two stars. Other two stars for the level of pain in the book. It bothered me greatly. This is a romance book you know. Not a horror story. In romance books, heroin gets kidnapped, gets slapped a few times, bad guy scares her saying thet he will do terrible stuff, but before he succeeds hero or heros save their lady. If heroine is pregnant, she gets scared that she will lose her baby, but does not. So after finishing the book, I am in agony. What did you accomplish dear writer?
Ps: One point I am happy is that the heroes did not get to save the heroine. Other nice guys did. They did not even get to be with her at first. So score :)
Interesting story of an alien world whose women have been infected with a virus that renders them infertile. As the population begins to decline, the Ta'e'sha realize that they can mate with human women with some genetic revisions. They begin a program or voluntary and involuntary captures. The book uses some common sense. The woman's personal belongings are also taken, to help them maintain some semblance of normalcy in a very frightening event. They are careful to take only those without husbands or children, and whose disappearance won't be widely noticed. Thea is unattached with few who would miss her. She becomes the mate of the Ta'e'sha ship's captain and his partner.
It was a fairly good read, and didn't feel so contrived, as many of these do. I would have rated it higher, but didn't feel much empathy with the characters.
I was completely surprised by this story. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The story started off in the typical alien abduction way. Woman stolen for mating purposes. I found myself rolling my eyes and thinking that this story was just an excuse for porn. But then the plot developed and I really got to know and care about the characters. When Theo goes through something very traumatic and terrifying, I found myself crying and grieving with her. The author definitely didn't pull any punches when it came to the dangerous situation Theo found herself in.
Will definitely read the next book in this series.
This was an interesting read....while the story as a whole was good I really enjoyed the short chapters on the interactions of the Gods/Goddesses from the two worlds.... and their plotting.... definitely going to read the second one cause I just have to know what exactly Skye and Gaia have sent to their daughters....
I loved this from the Epilogue "Your mission, should you choose to accept it...." Skye intoned in a solemn tone, belied by the twinkle in his eye. "Is to confound, harass, and generally annoy the enemy to the point that they are gibbering monkeys"
I read the review to this before reading, to see if it qualified for a challenge.
Why does everyone compare this book, to books that aren't even remotely similar? IDK.
From the reviews, I was expecting a darker read. It's not dark. was it HORRIBLE? not in the slightest. It was pretty good.
It left me with questions, but hey, it's a series, it's supposed to leave you with questions so you read the next one. It is well set up to leave you longing for more info.
I liked the extra special bodily parts, and functions. I enjoyed it, and I'd read the next one.

First 2/3 of books I hated. It wasn't until the end that I really got into it. I even thought about not finishing it but I borrowed it for a challenge so I didn't want to waste a borrow on a book I didn't finish but near the end.....the book really redeemed itself.
I would have given it 4 stars if I didn't have such an issue with the beginning of the book.
The best I can really say is 'meh.' The world was interesting, but perhaps a bit too involved for how little explanation was given.
I wasn't a huge fan of the gods/goddesses parts because I constantly felt like I was only seeing a tiny corner in the puzzle. Sometimes that feeling is okay, but it was rather irritating in this instance.
So, the most I can muster is 'meh.' I'll be returning it.
I felt like I was reading a manga that was forced into a novel. It was unrealistic and the story felt forced and rushed [girl goes from raped to total compliance in what,.. 2 minutes..?]. The characters lacked depth and I could not get myself to connect with any of the characters. If the story was a manga and done in manga style I think it would be ok. In it's current state,..... it's not my cup of tea....
I loved this book and have re-read it several times. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves to read an action and love story mixed together. It is a menage story.
Theodore Connor is a strong woman and needed 2 strong men to help her and make sure she is happy and healthy. She has gone thru a very traumatic experience and dealt with it very well. She is loved by both her husband's.
