Check out this tale of Snake and his encounter with a hip-hoppin', splish-splashin', stamp-stomping band!
Snake is used to his serpent ensemble and their shhh-BOOM groove. But then this littlest member of the snake alley band wakes up from a long winter's nap to find that all of his musician friends have disappeared! Will he find a way to appreciate the sounds of the other musicians in his land?
I enjoyed this story and thought that it was creative. I like the illustrations and colors. I wish a CD had been included with this book so that we could hear what the bands sound like.
Snake is part of a snake band and they make music along the lines of sshhh-BOOM. Once winter comes, he gets separated from his band mates. When he wakes up at spring he wants to be part of the band again. But instead of just snakes, a cricket, a frog, a fish, etc. want to be part of his band they make all sorts of noises, not just shhh-BOOM. At first Snake is annoyed by this, but when returns to his original snake band he soon learns that variety is the spice of life.
Snakes form a band to make music, but when winter comes they hibernate. After waking up, Snake goes to find his band but finds other critters along the way that would like to make a band. He refuses at first, thinking there's nothing better than a snake band. But once he finds his old band he realizes other sounds could make the band sound better. He goes back and forms a band with a frog, fish, cricket and a turtle.
A musical snake loses the members of his band when he takes a long nap. Other animals offer to join the band but the snake resists initially. Finally he recognizes the value in the variety of musical talents offered by the others. The illustrations help to make this a very energetic story and the lyrical quality of the words make it excellent to read aloud.
When the Shhh-BOOM, Shhh-BOOM, Shhh-BOOM of the snake band begins to sound a little monotonous Snake suggests adding Frog's cha-BOP, or maybe Cricket's chew-up chew-up.
