"You've a head like a rock. I love you, Kayleen. I loved you in dreams, when dreams were all there was for me. I love you now. It killed me to hurt you."

"In Dreams" is the story of Kayleen and Flynn.

A magical tale filled with heartbreak and yearning. The H is a magician, trapped for centuries in a cycle of desperation, where he gets to materialize into human for a week every hundred years. Lately, he dreams of a woman. When he comes to life, he meets her..
Our h is a businesswoman, who takes an impromptu trip to Ireland, only to get lost and meet her soulmate.

Then there are sacrifices, angst, lies, destiny and ultimate surrender to defeat what fate has decided for them.

Another good read!

Very short... less than three hours on audio. I'm glad that I listened to this instead of read the text because the narrator added a lot to the story by putting on a fantastic Irish accent. Had it not been for the swoon worthy Flinn, this would have hardly been worth the effort. As it was, it seemed like a hastily thrown together mash up of a story that reminds me way too much of Karen Marie Moning's Into the Dreaming. Except that KMM's novella actually fit into her Highlander/Fever series and therefore had some background to hold up a very sticky plot.

This was a nice fantasy romance novella. Cute but silly too. Good time reading it. 🌹🥀

I knew going in it was pure romantic fluff but this was a little over the edge. I much prefer Nora's more reality based stories. What sane person would get out of a wreaked car in the middle of nowhere, stagger to a castle, be taken in by a magician, wake up the next morning naked no less and then fall in love totally ignoring reason and sanity? come on!

I was torn between three and four stars, but I'm leaning more towards three. I believe several other reviewers mentioned this, but it's true- the reader is not the most spectacular in the world. Her main narrator/main character voice is just fine, but her male Irish accent comes across very corny and more Scottish than Irish, in my opinion. But if you can get past it, which I could for the most part, it's definitely bearable. As for the story, the idea behind the plot is really very interesting; however, it's novella length makes it underdeveloped. But then again, I'm not sure that I'd want it to be full-length novel because there was enough drawn-out narration as it was, and I'm not sure extra length would really be the best thing. I've never actually read a Nora Roberts novel, so I'm not sure how they normally read, but this story is probably not her best. Long story short, I don't regret listening to this story at all (and it was less than three hours), but I don't know if I'd listen to it again.

This audiobook recently became available at my library and being a fan of Nora's, I was eager to listen to it. In Dreams is a short story, so the audio is only 3 CDs. If you have a long commute to work like I do, you could easily listen to it in a day's commute. The narrator, Justine Eyre, did a good job with the story and accents. I have heard her before and she has always made the audiobooks pretty enjoyable.

Because this is a short story, the characters are thrown together and fall in love very quickly. I'm not sure I believed Caileen's feelings for Flynn. I'm not sure she would really be able to feel anything for him but lust. But given that Flynn has dreamed of her for 500 years, I do believe that he loves her very deeply. It is a cute fantasy tale. Not Nora's best, but you really can't go too wrong with anything you read by her.

I have not read the anthology in which this one is featured. Once Upon a Dream also features authors Jill Gregory, Marianne Willman, Ruth Ryan Langan.

:) 3.5*

Malédiction, magie, destin, croyance, guerre, bataille, sentiments, amour, danger.

Another fantastic novel by the talented storyteller Nora Roberts. In dreams tells the magically enchanting tale about curses and the power of love. This story has great character growth and overcoming personal obstacles to free themselves, the power of love in sacrifices to break curses. This book is highly entertaining and enjoyable books to read. I definitely recommend reading this book you won’t be disappointed.

In dreams. A man is imprisoned for over five hundred years in a land of dreams. Loneliness overwhelms at times. He dreams of a woman with dark hair and blue eyes. His curse has one good thing for one week every century he can’t his human form again, feeling, tasting living. Kayleen Brennon is a very sensible logical person who is vacationing in Ireland decides to explore the country side but whilst driving on a rainy night, her name whispered in the air gets lost and crashes her car into a tree stumbles along the woods until finding a house with a strange man that she feels a strong connection too. Kayleen wakes up and he introduces himself as Flynn and tends to her wounds. He recognises her from his dreams but she doesn’t recognise him. She witnesses him use magic tells her about himself that he is a magician born with magic that In his youth was a bit reckless with his power he fell for a beautiful woman and helped gain wealth by taking it from another and she betrayed him for her real lover. He was punished by the keepers and was given a choice be stripped of his powers and be a normal man or be imprisoned in dreams he chose the latter. Kayleen struggles to believe all this but once she sees her crashed car in the middle of the woods with no road in sight realises magic is real. They find themselves falling in love and making love during the week he wants to keep her with him, they get into an argument when she learns that he uses his powers to take things that he’s collected over the centuries and as an antiques dealer this hits home for her calls him out for not learning his lesson which fundamentally got him punished for. He storms off angrily but realises she’s right and they make up he uses his peers to replicate not steal. Flynn feels guilty after looking at her mother frantic with worry of Kayleen disappearance. Realises he can’t let her be trapped here has to let her go so he lies to her about not loving her and lets her go but she surprises him but coming back and calling him out, determined not to let her get trapped loves her too much for that to happen gives up his powers which frees him and together they make plans to go to America where she’s lives in Boston.

i read this book some 10 years ago and then couldn't remember who wrote it or the title- I remembered the cover and that it involved a woman crashing into a tree in the storm - and a curse and that was that.

I finally found it again and ... I still enjoyed it but not as much.

I feel like this is one of those books that would really benefit from being longer - the entire story takes place over a course of a week or 7 days. The characters seem underdeveloped - we learn that Kayleen loves the routine and leads a really boring life but she learns how to let go and relax whilst spending time with Flynn, Flynn is really stubborn and gets angry easily and doesn't admit when he is wrong - but that's about all we get from these two - they change, she learns how to relax, he learns how to not get super angry super fast and how to admit that he may be wrong here and there. They meet, she goes from: "Okay I just ended up in this man's castle in the middle of nowhere, I woke up and I am naked under the covers and he used some sort of magic/drugs to make me fall asleep, magic isn't real, this man must be insane and I want to protect myself with a knife" to "omg but he is hot tho and I wanna bang him" in a matter of seconds. The romance felt so rushed and her character wnet from being a badass independent woman to falling in love with a dude in a matter of seconds and swooning all over him and doing anything and everything he wants because he is hot. Not to mention that this entire book takes place over a week - 7 days, in those 7 days they are suddenly madly in love, then he sacrifices himself for her so she isn't imprisoned with him, he gets released/saved and bam they are suddenly engaged- the end- it felt so rushed.

The characters felt underdeveloped, the romance was awkward, the ending felt too rushed, the characters were boring and fell flat and were underdeveloped, and the entire book almost felt like it was either unfinished either a fanfiction someone wrote. I remember it being better but then again, I was around 15-16 when I first read it and I am 25 now.

antique shop owner on tour in Ireland and gets lost in a forrest, crashes her car and makes her way to the castle's light. Flynn is just back to being normal for a week after a century of being frozen in time. Not sure what is real and what is mystical and magic but they find a lot of commong things. she wakes up the next day, no clothes are torn, car is no longer smashed against a tree and she has no ijuries. he gives her a tale of what has happened to him, he has dreamed of her for centuries, the week of magic goes by fast. i wont spoil the ending but ti's the storke of midnight. On the last day when the Keepers have come to a decision as to if they will give Flynn back his life as a mortal. I enjoyed the escape into the fairy land that was created.

2.75 stars.

This time we have a 500 yo magician trapped in a dreamscape because of a wrong he did when he was young and foolishly in love. He's allowed only a week in his physical body every century. He met the heroine during her dreams and somehow she turns up at his "doorstep" during the week when he's embodied.

Again, it's the whole insta-love thing by the heroine that I just can't get around. Otherwise, the premise of this short story would have been quite interesting. I particularly liked the description of his home where he's "appropriated" things he liked over the centuries.

This was a sweet and short read.
I enjoyed the magical Ireland backdrop, and the over all story arc (I’m a sucker for fairytale retellings, and Sleeping Beauty is my favorite).
Although Flynn did give me the ick early on, I ended up liking his character development. As well as Kayleen’s.

One of Nora Robert’s more bizarre mystical short stories, with its usual excessive emphasis on sex equating to love. Other than the very predictable ending, it reads like a fantasy version of the sitcom Bewitched.

it was sweet and not bad for a short novella. would have it preferred it a little longer. it felt rushed, everything moved too quickly and not enough time for them to really build a relationship.
not one of my favorite Nora Roberts books

Ainda assim, gostei!
