Independently read and rated by Kate. Kate finished this one tonight in an hour. It's a pretty easy chapter book but I got it for her because of the Ancient Greece theme. She said she enjoyed it very much. This is the first book in a new "Secret in the Attic" series by L. A. Peacock. Kate said it reminds her of the Magic Tree House series. A brother and sister find a magic time-compass in their attic that can transport them through time. The next book is Egyptian themed.

Siblings Jess and Josh found an old trunk in their attic, and it was filled with artifacts, a journal, and a time traveling clock. They set off on a bullfighting and labyrinth filled adventure to Crete in hopes of saving their uncle.

So many things about this series remind me of the Magic Treehouse Books. I have to wonder if the author took that idea, made a few changes and twists, and came up with a whole new series!

A short, easy read for kids who are not ready for books as long as Percy Jackson or Kane Chronicles, but still have an interest in ancient cultures or time travel adventures.

A serviceable Magic Tree House knockoff. Poor doomed Icarus departs this tale still high on the wing.

I rate it a 3 star because Josh is always trying to be cool with power but he never is.
