I was assigned this book during one of my social work courses during my university days. This book is actually rather awesome when it comes to demonstrating various interviewing techniques and how to build rapport with clients. The information presented in this book is easily transferable to any job sector and is not strictly confined to the human service field. You can use the skills and techniques presented in this book to nearly any employment sector that deals with the public - customer service, retail, human resources, counseling, teaching, coaching, etc. Great book!

Okay, maybe you never thought you'd need interviewing skills, but mastery of the skills in this book could be applied to all sorts of life experiences and situations. The information is presented in a fun way. It's written like the 'choose your own adventure' books. Remember those? Where you can decide what you would say next, and then you will be directed as to the impact of what you've chosen. Surprisingly fun.

This book was effective for the Interviewing class that I was in, however it did focus mainly on interviewing in more of a social work environment rather than a counseling environment, which is something to consider before using this as a resource. Otherwise that scenarios were slightly unbelievable but that is to be expected from a book.

This book was awesome! I was assigned it in a counseling course. It teaches one interviewing (counseling) skill each chapter. Then it gives real life scenarios that might occur in a counseling situation, and allows the reader to pick from 3 possible choices. Very hands on and informative, and a quick, fun read. After I finished it, I went back and reread the entire book to cement the skills in my mind.

This book was something that was reecommended to add to my other books on counseling techniques by a professor. I must say that I am so glad that I bought it. It provides really great information on interviewing skills, and provides great examples for each micro-skill.
I highly recommend this book for anyone taking Counseling techniques.
