Useful, practical, highly suggested for lay person as well as therapists to work through chapters and exercises. I stick to couple of those that I have identified for myself as relevant and as science also concurs, these technics work!! Be persistent and relentless!

Someone bought this as a gift for me when I was having trouble as a teen, and it actually really helped. There are several sections you can write in and problem solve for yourself.

I read this self help book the year it was released and I liked it for two reasons. First, it was the first gift in the shape of a book I had recieved from a friend who lived thousands of miles away from my dwelling place. Second and most importantly, the book helped me a good deal to adjust one of my personality aspect which was creating a major hindrance in the face of my personal development.

Why do so many self-help books have random instances of fatphobia?

Great book with very useful exercises! I only took away one star because I disagree with a few viewpoints, mainly in the covert modeling and covert sensitization sections. Otherwise, I recommend, especially for the sections on automatic thoughts/hot thoughts/worry control. "Getting Mobilized" is a great section. I plan to use some of the worksheets and we'll see what results I get!

This work is COMPREHENSIVE. And for someone in need to fix their psychological states in life, it can be a tremendously helpful resource. Not everyone might relate with or need it, as people have different styles of dealing with issues, but for someone cut from such a cloth, it's a very good resource for approaching and resolving their thoughts and feelings in a very systematic way.

A good book recommended by therapists. If you are dealing with worry control, perfectionalism, this book is for you. Highly recommend the chapter about Automated thoughts for a basic understanding of how thoughts influence feelings and behaviors.

It's alright for those who are starting on the beginning of the journey of therapy or learning therapy, but not so great for more complex situations.

Good manual for learning basic cognitive behavorial techniques. Not that helpful because every disorder has a range of different possible manifestations that invite you to read different chapters in different orders, but also has good info of the different kind of providers that can help navigate that process, and tips on how to make sense of the process.

This is a great, and very practical, introduction to Cognitive Behavior Therapy, but one should make sure to get the latest edition (4th) rather than the earlier ones. The first four chapters covering the foundation of CBT are the same, but the newer editions also contain many more techniques, including some that are based on Buddhist meditation practices.

The key idea behind CBT is that "our thoughts cause our feelings" and most of the time our thoughts are generated automatically by our subconscious. The practices described in this CBT manual provide very effective ways of relating more thoughtfully to our subconscious in a way that allows it to be more accurately perceptive of our lives. I think of this as educating our intuition! Anyway, this book has some great ideas and most, if not all of them, have been validated as effective for the treatment of a wide variety of mood disorders from depression to anxiety, phobias to procrastination.

I'm telling all my friends and family to buy or borrow this book!

Focuses on quite a variety of conditions, with different chapters applicable to different conditions. A lot of the information I was already familiar with but there were several new, helpful ideas, too.

Love this book! A psychologist and mentor of mine let me borrow one of his first editions years ago and I've got my own copy now that I consider a handbook for my mind.

Great book! Great resource!
