Just a quick note of Thanks for the incredible growth that I have experienced working with your book “I Can Make You Confident”. When I started your book my life was at rock bottom. After reading it four times now, applying the exercises, and listening to the Mind Programming CD on a daily basis I have been seeing some amazing things happen in my life. My job is booming at a frightening however wonderful rate. My marriage is greatly improved. My wife and I are connecting at a much deeper level. I am feeling more confident in myself, I am more disciplined in my life and all of my relationships are much better. The biggest surprise is that I have a closer connection with God then I have ever had. Not bad progress for someone that has a history of failing over and over again. Thank you so much. I owe a great debt of gratitude for the work you do.
I only got this book because the book I actually wanted was checked out of my library, so I thought I'd get this one to hold me over. I didn't think I wanted to confidence—I thought I only wanted whatever it is that causes confidence. But it turns out that's what this book is actually about anyway for the most part, so rock on!
Unfortunately, the CD was missing from this copy, so I can't say anything about the hypnosis recordings. But even without them, there are a ton of visualization exercises throughout the book, and it seems like doing them has really helped me. Even just in the two days since I started reading this, I've done a lot of things I would normally procrastinate, which has eliminated a ton of guilt, dread, and feeling inadequate—which makes it much easier to feel confident!
Also, I was surprised to find that, when I got to the exercise that promises unlimited motivation, I was like "No way! Too dangerous!" That explains a lot about my (lack of) productivity lately. When I thought about it, I realized I had a misguided fear that if I had a lot of motivation, I'd work so hard, I'd burn myself out. This insight didn't come a moment too soon!
Even taking the time to do the exercises, it's a quick read. The print is huge, to which I say: thank you, publishers! My eyeballs appreciate you!
Notes: Hey, future self who wants to speak: meditation for that on p. 1711!
Reflections and lessons learned: “Confident people are not born, they’re MADE”
An amazingly ‘legs astride/hands on hips’ style narrated audiobook, which makes me want to raise my eyebrows in giggling mock shock but also jog alongside the towering McKenna powerhouse, nodding in learning affirmative agreement... you can’t knock him - this audiobook does ooze confidence in content and tone, and thankfully humble British price tag and length.
I listened to this over several nights, falling asleep to the second part where I can’t necessarily tell you how it ends but I’m possibly crying less as a result...? Many mad flash moments of layered narration that wouldn’t have looked out of place in an Absolutely Fabulous psychedelic floatation tank sketch, but also struck me as the perfect aural combination of Partridge, A and Brand, R. Hoping to have subconsciously absorbed some of the positive, glowing vibes that will boost my inner She-Ra (for oh yes, I DO have the power of Grayskull too Adam)
On a practical level I am now listening to the oft repeated (but oft ignored by me) advice of ‘action habit forming’ through repetition, and ‘action steps’ for momentum - simple but effective. I look forward to finding out the definite end whilst stance matching with confidence...washing up later
I think the audiobook is the book AND the hypnosis tracks, but I may be wrong, it's only 2 and a half hours. I was sceptical about this (because... " hypnotic, mind programming techniques") but someone recommended it to me. Some of the mind programming stuff won't be for everyone and quoting Donald Trump was an interesting decision but there is some good stuff here.
Your mind and body are intimately linked in what's known as a cybernetic loop. That means that whatever you think will affect the way your body feels, and the way you use your body will affect your thoughts inside your head. Put simply, one is always affecting the other.
The parts about your physical body and the mental (thoughts & feelings) and how they are connected reminded me a lot of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - cognition is your thoughts, behaviour is what you do). I think this is extremely useful to be aware of because our thoughts can tell us to do something we think will be a relief which actually ends up up making our lives harder. It's a lot about mindset and the story we tell ourselves. Helpful self-help.
Although I would say I think books like this should always have a disclaimer that it's not weakness to ask for help and often a combination of things are needed to help you out a rut (which can include medication), you can't always manifest yourself out of a tough spot. This is a mix of theory and action, definitely something interesting to work with here. Worth the couple of hours.
Remember not winning is not the same as failure. Neither is things not turning out exactly the way you wanted or getting turned down my someone you wanted something from. The first question you need to ask yourself is this: so what? So you didn't win, so it didn't turn out exactly the way you wanted, so you got turned down? So what? You're still alive, and tomorrow you've got another chance to make something more wonderful happen. Not only that, you've learnt lessons that will help you succeed in the future. High achievers see what other people call "failure" as no more than a temporary set-back.
Trotzdem sehr empfehlenswert!
Good common sense advice. I didn't like the cd bit. Why would someone count back from 300 while imagining all those things and trying to relax at the same time? I hate counting and counting backwards would take away all relaxation. Must be something to do with hypnosis but big distraction all the same.
Read as an audiobook so it took a bit longer than I would usually have taken to read an actual book. I love Paul McKennas voice and enjoyed listening, easy to listen to his audio mind programming cd as it was part of the book so I can listen on my book.
I didn't listen to the CD - it was due back to the library - but found the book positive with good tips. Positive self-talk, reminding yourself of your abilities, and painting the positive aspirations and memories in your mind with big, bold colors are all great recommendations.

This book is a gem. There's a lot of good techniques in it. I wish I had a CD player to hear the accompanying messages. I got this book from the library and I'm not going to remember it all so this is one of those books that would be worth it to own!
The underlying cognitive behavioral therapy fundamentals are valid but i am not sure i ‘d recommend this particular book resp its Audible version that I have listened.
Hypnosis is such a powerful tool and one that's been huge in my own journey. At the start of said journey, I used this book and audio by Paul McKenna to increase my confidence. It’s something I come back to today when I need a boost. On-point!
This book was a quick & easy read. The author himself says you can read it in about a day. Most of this book is inspirational and gives a lot of detailed visualization exercises. If you liked "The Secret," "The Power" or specifically "The Magic" by Rhonda Byrne, you should consider reading this book. McKenna doesn't exactly talk about the law of attraction, but he does talk about attracting better things into your life.
I would buy a hard copy of this book new since it is supposed to come with a guided hypnosis CD. However, don't be scared by that. McKenna doesn't make you bok like a chicken. Even if the hypnosis doesn't work, it's still very relaxing and I've fallen asleep a couple of times while listening to it.
I haven't seen any dramatic improvements in my confidence, but it has only been a week. McKenna instructs the reader to listen to the CD (which is less than a half hour) every day for 3 weeks. It also takes a while to reprogram your mind to make yourself think positively instead of negatively.
When I once talked about reading a book about Assertiveness my friends laughed and said I could be leading the course. I expect the same reaction if I told them I'd bought this book too!
It was a daily Audible deal which I decided to try. After all no one is entirely confident in themselves, all the time plus I'm curious how McKenna can make you confident. I've so far listened to the first few chapters while walking and he was going onto the low voiced growly part where he's giving phrases and positive affirmations...it is HILARIOUS. I must try from the beginning again; when I can close my eyes and concentrate (rather than navigate my way across cattle grids.) I don't rate my chances of taking it seriously though, I kept wondering 'Is that how his 'sex voice' sounds?!'

Finally realised I could return this still, it's so awful! It wasn't worth even 99p.
This was a very quick read. Honestly, you could get through it in a couple of hours. I liked it. While the techniques are nothing revolutionary, they are useful and the book acts as a great reference piece for them. I believe it will be a boom that I will continue to go back to as I learn to incorporate the practices into my routine. I have not started the cd yet, but given the book, I suspect it will help increase my level of confidence.
Great techniques and stories to help build confidence to do what needs to be done to move forward in life. I found it easy to follow with real life examples and fabulous quotes. There is nothing holding you back except unrealistic fears. Read the book, listen to the CD, do the exercises, it can't hurt.
This book states the obvious; laugh, engage in positive self talk, take risks, imagine yourself doing well, listen to hypnosis cd and exercise in order to become confident. Good reminders but the book and hypnosis are not for me.
After years of feeling low, I started feeling better while reading the book and listening to the CD. I'm not even sure why it works but it does. It helped me find my smile again. :) I will continue to listen to the CD when I have the opportunity. It is very soothing and uplifting.
