But now one nation will stop at nothing to locate it. And Lang Reilly may be the only man who stands in their way - unless they can eliminate him. Gregg Loomis is an American author of thrillers. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he spent his youth traveling the world, and has worked as a commercial pilot, a racecar driver, and a lawyer specializing in commercial litigation. He published his first novel, the bayou thriller Voodoo Fury, in 1991. His greatest success came in 2005, when The Pegasus Secret introduced the world to lawyer Lang Reilly; Loomis charted that character’s globetrotting adventures through five more novels, including The Coptic Secret (2009) and The Cathar Secret (2011). With Gates of Hades (2007), Loomis began a new series centered on Jason Peters, an international operative working for NARCOM, a private corporation that does what the CIA cannot. Hot Ice (2013) is the second Jason Peters novel. Loomis now writes and practices law in Atlanta.
Just tore through The Bonaparte Secret, and now I’m half-convimced Napoleon didn’t lose at Waterloo — he just went undercover in a Gregg Loomis novel. This book fires on all cylinders: secret histories , shadowy organizations, and enough plot twists to make your GPS recalculate. Loomis drops facts and explosions with equal precision — brainy chaos at its absolute finest. By the end, I wasn’t reading anymore, I was surviving
Lang Reilly and wife Gurt are quite exciting, and the locale of Atlanta and where ever they go are usually quite exciting, but this latest installment didn't do it for me. The coincidences and connections are just a little too contrived. Lang is hunting for something, but he doesn't know what, but the Chinese are hunting for whatever it is are too, and they just happen to stumble into a heist and the story begins in Venice with a theft and and..... Still I enjoy the characters and Gurt is priceless. A strong woman to be proud of. Loomis does need to improve, or he will lose his audience.
The Bonaparte Secret takes Lang on an amazing journey of countries.... Venice, Haiti, Alexandria and Paris. Why are the Chinese trying to steal from a Church in Venice? Why try and kill Lang and Gurt? Why does the US remove protection from Gert and Manfred?
Another well researched and written novel by Gregg Loomis.
I enjoyed the read. l felt disappointed towards the end, like it was just thrown together. I'm thinking they are seeking Napoleon's remains but come to find out its not remains, but something else Napoleon held dear. Really?
Anyway, I won't spoil it. So with that being said, onward to the Cathar Secret. Ciao!!!
