I was born and grew up in Winnipeg —a daydreamer with her nose in a book. In my twenties, I traveled around the world, mostly by ship. Later, I moved to Vancouver, where I earned a B.A. and M.Ed. at the University of British Columbia. Among my jobs were travel agent, college teacher, instructional designer and editor.

For years, I dabbled with writing. But I didn't begin to write in earnest until I had two young daughters. My first book was published in 1992, and I have since written more than thirty others, including novels, picture books and non-fiction.

I live in Vancouver, a short walk from the sea. I write full-time and still love to travel, read and daydream.

What a wonderfully series; I can't wait to read more! I appreciate how this book doesn't skip over facts just because they aren't "friendly." For example, the children obviously can't be running around in the book naked, though children in ancient Egypt would have been, and rather than ignoring this, the book actually makes a point to explain that to the children. They don't skip over the unfortunate parts, and I think that is so important for children to be able to learn the good and bad so that they don't repeat mistakes or not trust their educational system. A great introduction to the times with a fast enough pace to keep even the most antsy little engaged.

The three Binkerton children enter a very old bookstore and by opening a book about ancient Egypt they end up on an adventure there. This story is an enjoyable introduction to what Egypt was like thousands of years ago. Great illustrations.

It was cool when they went into the book to Egypt. It was cool that Egyptians ate bread that was made out of flat rocks and you have to be careful if you eat it because there is a little bit of sand and grit in it. I did not know that Egyptians drink beer, but it is not bad beer like people do right now because they made it out of something else. In the story, they had to read every word in the Egytian book they opened and when they read every word they went back home. Then they said they will never ever go around the block ever again.

Wonderful search-and-find book about a little boy and girl walking home from school. The little boy looses pretty much all his possession along the way and you have to search the pages to find where he left them.

Awesome illustrations! The drawings are of actual locations in Paris - the author has a list of them at the end of the book. Excellent!

These creative adventure stories have a fiction story as well as a nonfiction guide book at the bottom of the pages that gives actual facts and information about the time period. My six year old loves these stories and I think they are definitely worth a read.

It was interesting. I didn't know that Egyptians commonly drank beer, but I learned that from the book.

This was a fun book, full of facts and adventure. It made it seem like we really went to Ancient Egypt, because the kids in the book were able to travel back in time.

I learned a lot about Ancient Egypt. Most kids didn't wear many clothes. If you robbed tombs you would be impaled. It is the first in the series.
