The ‘wit’ is spread very thinly indeed and I think the wisdom was a tad too subtle for me. Occasionally, I chanced on a snippet of interest/amusement. Otherwise, it was a waste of 100 pages or so. Are these people quite as precious and irrelevant as they are captured here, even obnoxious – in the case of the late Princess Margaret? I can only assume Thomas Blaikie is a republican!
I randomly picked it up 2 days ago for 3EUR, because I liked the cover and the name. Worth it. :)
The book is a collection of anecdotes - about a hundred pages of them. Some are witty, some are funny, I found some horrifying. I also don't like Princess Margaret, whoever that might be.
An easy, enjoyable read providing a different (often gossipy) view of the royal family.
Well, surprise, turned out I am a bit of a royal watcher! Stumble upon this title when going down a rabbit hole the other day and luckily I managed to get my hands on it. Full of funny short quotes, very entertaining. Hopefully I will find something else like this soon.
Some of the authors recollections were humorous. Princess Margaret could certainly be rude and offensive and some of the references were beyond me, whether this was due to a lack of knowledge of the historical context or because I am not British and missed the cultural references I do not know. A light read and not completely horrible, but I may have been annoyed had I paid more than a dollar ninety nine for the Kindle edition.
Short comments about things that are witty, humorous and sometimes sharp said by various members of the Royal family. Read as either a fast one off or a book to dip into every now and then.
I thought I had bought a book containing funny stories about witty remarks by the royals. Instead it was full of stories about pompous philistines and obnoxious snobs! Really astounded this was found worth publishing!
I did enjoy this book, not sure what I expected maybe a bit more humor, it was stories told as they had been told to the Author, so if your interested in the Royal family, then this would be a good little book to read, or maybe a gift for some one else.
