The couple that swept you away in Taken by Storm is back! Michael is in Thailand diving his dream. Leesie is at BYU living hers. And they just can't leave each other alone. Their romance rekindles, deeper than before. They grow desperate to see one another again. To hold one another again. Michael decides there is only one direction their relationship can go and asks Leesie the ultimate question. Her answer challenges everything Michael is and wants to be. Can she change for him? Can he change for her? Enough? Wi-fi, thick in the air, pulses with him, revealing his far away fingers drumming as he stares at a screen. Dim light, noise, bodies-- I shouldn't answer this fruitless vision . . . But the more I erase, delete, eradicate-- the tighter my heartstrings twist, entwining Michael's shadow forever on my soul.
Award-winning author, Angela Morrison, loves it when characters like Gavin in her debut picture book, ROCKHOUND, wake her up in the middle of the night and whisper their stories to her. She scribbles, listens, and revises until a story is born. When Angela isn't busy writing another tale, she enjoys playing with her grandkids, teaching writers young and old, and scuba diving with sharks. She holds and MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, along with an English BA from BYU. She and her husband live in Peoria, Arizona.
Hey, it's me, Angela. It's awesome to hear from all of you. I'm now a real, live Goodreads author. Watch my blog. I'm loving your comments. Oh, and the best news. You can now order the paperback directly via my Amazon eStore.
My review for the entire Taken by Storm trilogy: (Don't worry this review doesn't contain spoilers!)
My parents raised me to avoid public conversations, especially with strangers, on two main topics: politics and religion. (Therefore, I am assuming that blogging about one of them probably wasn’t what they had in mind.) However, I am about to go against their advice because today I am going to blog about RELIGION (Well sorta). (I’ll save politics for …well hopefully NEVER!)
Let me start by saying, I LOVED the Taken by Storm trilogy by Angela Morrison. I really wish I could recommend this trilogy for everyone, but I can’t because not everyone is going to love it! I think a lot of people will really enjoy this series, but some people won’t care for it because of the religious theme throughout the series.
The Taken by Storm series is built around Lessie, a Mormon who struggles with staying true to her religious beliefs. (I am not Mormon. In fact, before I read Taken by Storm my knowledge on the Mormon religion was basically nil.) A large part of the plot in this novel is about Lessie’s faith, and a large part of who Lessie is is tied into her religion. However, Morrison shows us how much Lessie’s faith is a part of her life without being “preachy”. In my opinion, Lessie is a great protagonist. (In fact, she is one of my favs!)
After reading the Taken by Storm series, I developed a strong respect for Mormons who practice their faith because, from what you read in this book, they are very dedicated and have very high standards. Lessie doesn’t drink, smoke, experiment with drugs, cuss, go to parties, lie to her parents, etc. In fact, she lives by a set of rules that are, in my opinion, admirable: Do not go into the house alone with a member of the opposite sex. Keep both feet on the floor. Never go into a guy’s bedroom. No parking. No necking. No petting. No fornication. No tongue. Etc. She also attends church every Wednesday night, Sunday morning, and wakes up every morning before school for seminary- where her dad teaches her and her brother more about their religion. Morrison doesn’t really go into details about what goes on at church or seminary. In fact, she only very briefly mentions that Lessie attends seminary every morning. What I am saying is: Morrison doesn’t try to covert you over to the Mormon faith by writing scripture, she simply shows you how dedicated Lessie is to her faith.
Again, I am not Mormon. But I do have my own values and morals that I live by, and I can understand what it’s like to have those values tested. In fact, when I was a teenager I lived by pushing my limits. I think no matter what your religion, or even if you don’t have one, almost every young adult can relate to this novel (no, maybe not the religious aspect, but having faith in other people, pushing your limits, having your values tested, etc.)
This series is told through Lessie’s poems, Michael’s dive log (which is basically his journal) and IM chats. I appreciated how Morrison gave us her characters raw, uncensored feelings, especially Michaels. He doesn’t immediately love Lessie, and it wouldn’t have been realistic if he did. Also, she tells this story within a very realistic time frame, and we get to see Michael and Lessie’s relationship develop, falter and progress. I really connected with Lessie and Michael and I think it was mainly because Morrison showed us their raw thoughts and feelings.
The Taken by Storm series made me feel such a wide array of emotions: sad, depressed, happy, ecstatic, frustrated, pissed, embarrassed, livid, hopeful, angry. AGH! At times I wanted to punch Michael in his face. A few pages later, I’d want to give him a hug. I’d want to shake Lessie and a second later I just wanted to cry for.
Angela Morrison – Thank you so much for introducing me to your characters and your beautifully written story.
I gave the Taken by Storm series by Angela Morrison 4 STARS. My recommendation: read this series!!

What can I say? This book is absolutely amazing! Continuing the story of Michael and Leesie at the end of Taken By Storm, Morrison's self-published Unbroken Connection follows Michael and Leesie as they struggle to follow their dreams yet try to have something together.
A lot of this novel is more of a thought/feeling novel. Until the end, not a huge amount happens in the great scheme of things. It covers Michael and Leesie's time together as they try to work a way to be together against the conflicts of their dreams and Leesie's faith. There are a lot of conversations, a lot of exclaiming of love, and a lot of arguments. Despite not a huge amount actually happening, it's still brilliant to see them try to work out a way to be together and still have everything they want. I'd say it's very much a bridge novel between the first book and the third, but it still needs to be read, because it really should not be missed.
As I said in my review of Taken By Sorm, I'm fascinated with the Mormon faith. However, as an athiest, Leesie annoyed me quite a bit in this book. She pretty much told Michael it wouldn't work unless he converted to Mormonism. It really bugged me, like "You're not good enough as you are." Yet, saying that, neither Taken By Storm or Unbroken Connection intend to convert or preach. Quite the opposite really; Morrison is a Mormon herself, but she can see the arguments against her faith and gives them a voice in her novel, through Michael and Kim, Leesie's mate. All views are shown in this novel - even Michael mentions that he would be happy if he and Leesie had kids for her to raise them with the Mormon faith even though he doesn't believe. I think it's just wonderful of Morrison to make sure everyone has a voice in her novels, even if the views differ with her own.
There are a fair few errors throughout the book, but you come to expect it when a book is self-published. I've seen several authors say before that sometimes they're just too close to a book to see the faults, so I don't hold this against Morrison. If her previous publisher had seen what an amazing book this is, there wouldn't be a problem. This book needed to be published, though, so I think anyone who supports authors will give this great book a chance despite it's errors.
The end of the book is just amazing, terribly sad with such a cliffhanger! Seriously, if you've read Taken By Storm, this is not a book to miss! Morrison is currently writing the third novel in the series, Cayman Summer, and sharing what she writes via her blog along the way, so her readers can see the story's development. I'd check it out if I were you.
Unbroken Connections is the sequel to Taken By Storm also by Angela Morrison. In The end of Taken By Storm, sweethearts Leesie and Michael decide that their goals don't mesh and go their separate ways but want to remain friends. At the beginning of Unbroken Connections Leesie is at BYU surrounded by good looking eligible returned missionaries and Mormon culture. Michael is in Thailand working as a scuba instructor. He has immersed himself in his love for the sea and could have his choice of beautiful Thai woman. But it soon becomes evident through Michal's dive logs, Leesie's poetry and their "friendly" chats online, that distance has made them desperate for each other.
The first 2/3 of the novel left my heart aching along with Leesie and Michael's. The distance was an obvious problem, but the problem that had separated them before still lingers. Leesie's goals--faith and obedience to her religion--make it impossible for her to give herself completely to Michael. Michael is willing to wait until she's ready and remains faithful to her. He's committed to marry her so they can be together, but Leesie will not settle for anything but a temple marriage. That would require Michael becoming a member of her church, and he's not ready to commit to that.
As a member of the Mormon faith myself, I can relate to this section of the book completely, from the BYU culture (six girls in an apartment, roommate troubles, family home evening brothers, brownies and ice cream) to the anguish of loving someone who doesn't share your beliefs. The author also has a talent for making your feel the couples pain (killing me Angela, killing me!).
Distance makes the heart grow fonder, but can also make a long distance relationship and crucial communication complicated. This communication problem adds another conflict when Michael gets himself entangled in the life of one of the for mentioned exotic beauties as he tries to help her out of a bad situation. Pictures on the web concern Leesie and her family, and when Lessie's "missionary" comes home her family thinks he's the answer to their prayers.
Michal is at a loss as to what to do, but while sitting in the gardens at the LDS temple in Hong Kong, he finally gets a prompting from the Holy Spirit. He feels that Leesie needs him. He listens to it and flies immediately to her, just as a horrible tragedy has occurred. He finds Leesie broken and consumed with grief and guilt. Will Michael be able to save her from herself the way she saved him (first novel)? Will they find the forever Leesie's been looking for? Hopefully those questions will be answered in the next book in the series (Hurry up with Cayman Islands PLEASE).
I didn't read the first book but I'm kind of glad because I think it would have been really frustrating as they seem to be rehashing the same problems again.
I wasn't so crazy about the Mormon thing, but I did like it as a point of tension between them. I like the spin on an old story line. I mean, everything is so perfect, bad boy falling for the innocent girl with just one tiny problem. And I understand how religion can be a huge issue when it comes to romantic relationships. However, I couldn't see Leesie's personality and her faith clicking for me. She behaves as if she has certain rights or privileges in the relationship because Michael isn't a Mormon. That's just messed up. I did appreciate the author throwing in a friend that cares about Leesie but influences her with her “all men are dogs” spiel. It makes more sense for Leesie to mistrust Michael when her friend is whispering all these doubts in her head. I found it funny that Leesie's rowdy Morman crowd gets drunk on ice cream and brownies.
Michael is in Thailand and Leesie is in Utah. I really liked their conversations. I found Michael so entertaining.
MICHAEL: you should have been miserable LEESIE: Sorry. You know how I get when music plays. MICHAEL: so that’s it...a little ballroom and I’m history
And he can be so romantic too.
MICHAEL: even if it doesn’t work for me, I won’t ever come between you and your faith…I love that part of you as much as the rest of you
He's absolutely crazy about her.
MICHAEL: and we’ll get married...soon...I want to take care of you...let me, babe, please...we can run away together to an island in the Pacific and live on bananas
And all his knowledge about diving is super sexy. I love that he is just a normal guy. The author doesn't tone down his personality just to keep the book clean.
I'm looking forward to reading the final installment.
Unbroken Connection is the continuation of Michael and Leesie's love story, and oh my is it amazing. I love that they both tried to do what was best for the other at the end of Taken by Storm. They are young and have dreams to pursue and it is noble how they love one another so much they don't hold each other back. In this book, we see their love continue and endure even through distance and further trials. I am convicted how steadfast Leesie is in her beliefs. I am proud of her for not caving even through her strong love for Michael. I admire her strength and am thankful for Angela writing a strong character. Even though she is in love, she still makes time for God, for her school work, for her friends and for her family. Michael is so sweet in this book, and I enjoyed journeying with him as he matured, healed, and realized the depth of his love for Leesie. I also have to mention how proud I am (I sound like I am talking about my kids, but that is okay, right?) of how he handled the situation with Sukanda. I can't really say more without spoiling things but if you've read, you know what I am talking about. I also loved their IM chats, they had me laughing at times. I find myself saying Freak. a lot now too, thanks Michael :D I did not see the end coming and it made me cry. Big fat tears streaming down my face at 2am. So, beware. You can't put it down, and it draws you in. Their joy, their pain- you will feel it too, or at least I did. Angela was right to stand up for this book and for their story. It is amazing, and I cannot wait to go and read the blog project for book 3 Cayman Summer. If you haven't picked this up-- what are you waiting for? It is amazing!
I've been a huge fan of Angela Morrison's ever since I was introduced to her writing with TAKEN BY STORM about Michael and Leesie, a story that I loved. After I finished TAKEN BY STORM, I couldn't wait to begin UNBROKEN CONNECTION, the next book in the series. Unfortunately it didn't come out for some time due complications in getting the book published.
Though it had been some time since I read TAKEN BY STORN, Michael and Leesie's story was still fresh in my mind because the characters were so alive and their story amazing. It didn't take me long to get back into their continued story in UNBROKEN CONNECTION.
Like Angela's other books, which are well written fast paced stories with three-dimensional characters that you fall in love with, this book was no different.
In UNBROKEN CONNECTION, Michael is away in Thailand, living his dream as a diver. Leesie is at BYU living hers. Thought they had parted as friend, they soon find themselves back together. Their relationship grows deeper than ever and Michael decided to take it to a whole new level.
UNBROKEN CONNECTION will leave you loving Michael and aching for Leesie. I can't wait to receive my copy of the final book in the series, CAYMAN SUMMER, to see how things end up for Michael and Leesie.
my favorite part of this book was the format: the dive journals, the chats, the poems...they give a fullness to the story that it otherwise wouldn't have.
i hate to say that i found leesie annoying, especially when she wants to believe the worst of michael. it's like she doesn't know him at all. just because he doesn't have the same beliefs doesn't mean that he's a completely bad person that is driven solely by his physical passions. actually, i really grew to love michael. he's honorable, upstanding, and noble - in helping karen, in standing up for suki, in writing that article about the corals.
i don't remember how i came across this book. i had thought that 'taken by storm' was a stand-alone book and perhaps it was when i read it. but i'm glad that i got to continue leesie & michael's journey with them. i never did feel proper closure with the ending of 'taken by storm'. books aren't supposed to end with the romantic couple breaking up, merely having the memory of being together be good enough, so i'm glad that there was more to michael & leesie's story.
yay for the kindle lending library that i didn't have to purchase this book.

Im going to read the 3rd one but i have to go buy it first. it's worth every penny i own i know i wont regret it ! to anyone that loves romance this is the book you want to read it shows you what love really is i feel that this is love loving someone not caring what they look like and willing to change for them to be with them. i wish the books kept going and going on about leese and mike till they die.. i really do ! i dont know what im going to do after i read all 3. anyone with some suggestions that are similar to these books ?

This book was interesting. I didn't read the first book, but I figured out most of the back story pretty quickly. It was odd to read most of the book either in poem or dive journal form. It took me a while to get used to it. At first I wanted to skip over the poems, but realized they were actually the story from Leesie's point of view, so had to go back and read through them again. The ending leaves you on a cliff hanger wondering what the heck is going on. It wasn't the most satisfying ending I've read, but if you go on to read the authors notes at the end, she does say that there is another book in the series.
Loved this 2nd book of the Taken by Storm series following Michael and Leesie's very different lives. In this book they are graduated from high school and following their separate dreams. Michael goes to Thailand to become a dive instructor, and Leesie heads to BYU on her scholarship. Same format as the 1st book--Michael's dive log, Leesie's soul-stirring poems, and chat-room conversations. I devoured this book in a day because I was hooked and couldn't let go of the story for one second until I had seen it to the end. My heart was wrenched over and over as temptations and prejudice kept being thrown at these characters I love. Can't wait for the last book.
Okay.... my heart hurts. Like literally hurts. I don't think i can wait a whole year for the next one.
I'm going to go cry now...
You should totally read this if you want a heartbreakingly beautifully tragic story. (does that make sense? in my head- yes.) Angela's writing style is amazing and sucks you in so fast, you cant help but finish it in one sitting!!
but don't come up from reading it too fast, you might get the bends! :P
Very well written. Michael and Leesie's story continues with the same format, Michael's diving logs and Leesie's poems and chatspot conversations. This one focuses more on their relationship and how much they have to fight against their all comsuming passion. Maybe just a teeny bit too much, but still very good--for the right person. Content is PG-13.
I'm use to being disppointed in second books in series. But Angela is one hell of a writer and she didn't disappoint me one bit! Micheal and Leesies relationship is so, complicated but still so beautiful. The book is also written in such a creative and fun way I didn't even put it down! Read it and find out ;)
Interesting... I couldn't put it down! I really wanted them to be happy together. I can't wait for my library to get Cayman Summer! Again the emphasis on sex was annoying, however it was sweet how he wanted to marry her! I just wonder if it was for the right reasons. The car crash was totally predictable. An over-all easy read that kept my interest.

oh my hec. This was so dumb!!!!!!!! I think to best discribe it I would say it was liking reading a treadmill. It was just the same story over and over again page after page! there was no story. Towards the middle I just started to skim. Do not pick this one up....so not worth the time!!!!
I got this second book at the same time as the first (Taken By Storm) and had to dive right in as soon as that was finished. Lots of real emotion and heartache in this book as the two main characters deal with their long distance relationship and try to come to terms with the faith issue.
Not a fan of the dive record/ journal format. This book and the previous one were hard to read. Still drives me crazy that she keeps lowering her standards for the guy and allowing things to happen that could have gotten her kicked out of byu. I still think he's a jerk and she's too emotional.
I love this book, its the perfect sequel...it takes the relationship of two people in love to another level, another challenge and yet their connection is truly unbroken no matter the time and distance. This book is proof that love stories need not be mushy to be sweet and romantic!
I really just love these books (this is the second in a series.) Lots of steaminess, lots of issues to overcome, lots of emotion... all written in a fun unique way.
This book is a great book as was the first one. The love between these two runs so deep it's like a magnetic pull that they both just cant escape. On my top 10 list for sure!
