Call me a sucker for a book with hot naked guy on the cover, but in truth you never really know what’s going to be inside do you? Especially when it’s a freebie book.

3.5 stars. The NightMan was an interesting tale about a werewolf, Adriel, longing for his human true love, Caitlen, who is held captive to a family curse enchanted centuries ago by the evil vampire Dorian. Dorian is obsessed with having Caitlen as his own, but she is protected by an enchanted necklace that keeps him from defiling her. While she cannot leave him, as long as she wears the necklace he cannot take her virginity. So until Dorian can find a way to remove the necklace, touching and tasting her will only make him violently ill. To make matters more complicated, Adriel works for Dorian as his personal guard, and is sworn to protect him because of his own family curse.

This was an enjoyable PNR read with some great world building and characters. I enjoyed the premise of this one quite a bit, and found it a great tale of good vs evil. The author created a solid and complex world for a novella length book, and I would be interested in more stories based on her world building. It even had a nice bit of sexy written in, which I always appreciate. The heat level was a nice steamy-warm kind of read.

Unfortunately for me, this story is largely told from the author's point-of-view and not through the characters. In other words, it is mostly written in a passive voice, not an active voice. I much, much, much prefer stories that SHOW ME and not just TELL ME what people are thinking, feeling, doing…etc. Comparatively, very little of the story is told from the characters directly. The dialogue is too sparse, which is a shame as the world building and characters made me want to know so much more. So despite the writing voice issue, I still recommend the book to anyone that is a big fan of vampire/werewolf PNR books. The author clearly has a great writing skill with words, so I hope her future books are told more from her characters point of view and not just her own.

I'm actually trying to read this and it hurts. I almost never give up on a book, and at 53 pages it's not like I'm wasting a ton of time, but it might be 52 pages too many. The third person passive and ever-changing POV are awkward and the sentences read like unfinished thoughts. I cannot stress enough how important beta reading and editing are; the plot holes, grammatical errors, and all around cheesiness make this book unbearable.

"During the mid-evil times of Ireland..." Yes, mid-evil. The author also uses "fore shadow" and "fore fathers"

"...the stranger's accent dated back further than his language." That doesn't even make sense!

"...not even the careful eye of Dorian could deny her love for the man-beast." Oh, the cheese!

"He stopped abruptly as he entered her, feeling the softness of her tightness closing around him."

"For once in his life, he had found his soul mate!" How many times does one find
Adriel must serve one season, but it's been 100 years? I assume she means century, since a season is roughly three months, maybe six if you're talking about a social season.

She's been alive for over 100 years and her hymen is still intact? Seriously?

It's finally over. Thankfully.

Intrigued by werewolves and vampires? Then look no further than the novella The NightMan, by T.L. Mitchell. This novel, though only 55 pages long, is an erotic thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat with excitement and tantalized taste buds. Mitchell knows how to evoke a mysterious atmosphere, despite her approach not being of the most original, as, for instance, can be seen in: “A thick foggy mist floated silently through the trees, drifting down to the cold wintry ground.” Still, there is much for her young adult audience to appreciate, especially if you come to her work with minimal exposure to more evolved writing.

The historical background of the story is traced back to “the mid-evil times of Ireland, [when] Vikings invaded the Irish some 26 times following their first appearance on the island.” The characters are as believable as they can be in the paranormal genre, with more attention being paid to their superficial appearance than to the inner workings of their psyches: “The coats they wore complimented [sic] the frilly shirts and appeared to be more of the English formal ware.”

The plot itself is fairly straightforward. The NightMan tells of Caitlin, a beautiful woman who is caught between the control of a ruthless vampire and her yearning to be truly loved. The object of her desire is Adriel, the NightMan, who longs, in turn “to give Caitlin the love of a man who would truly love the very breath which left her body.” What holds him back from doing so is his transformation into “a tall, monstrously wicked and evil creature.” Their erotic encounter is described with fervor and in graphic detail by the ardent Mitchell, who portrays the two lovers as being consumed by hunger and desire for each other.

The NightMan will most probably find a wide audience among older teens and young adults who have yet to learn a great deal about life and relationships. As the genre is extremely popular at the moment, with much coverage both on screen and in text, the novella should receive a rapturous welcome from those who enjoy light reading and an uncomplicated plot.

This is a novella that I downloaded when it was free, as the blurb sounded interesting. Unfortunately, it has taken me a while to get to read it.

Caitlin is a young woman caught between a vampire, Dorian, who desires her blood, and Adriel, The Nightman - a werewolf, who desires her body.

This is a paranormal romance with a fantastic premise. Unfortunately, the story, for me, lacked something. The story was interesting, but I was a bit disappointed that the tale felt more like an essay. The dialogue was a bit stilted and felt a bit formal. This, I felt, made the characters seem rather shallow and not as interesting as they should have been. The story is a fast read, as it is a novella, and I would have liked for the story to have been a little longer and the characters fleshed out a little more. Since I downloaded this book more than a year ago, I don't know if it had been re-edited. However, the copy I had was in dire need of a polish through a professional editor. This does not mean that the story wasn’t good. On the contrary, the story had great promise. This is a diamond in the rough, and with a little tender loving polish, could be a great paranormal romance. I really did enjoy the story and the ending left me quite happy.

T.L. Mitchell has written an intriguing paranormal romance. Her writing style is not as fast paced as some authors, though the story flowed nicely. Even though this story could have been much better, I would definitely consider reading more of this authors work in the future.

There is a scene of a sensual nature that is slightly explicit. Therefore, I do not recommend this book to younger readers. However, I recommend this book if you love paranormal romances. - Lynn Worton

Author T.L. Mitchell has graced Paranormal Romance Guilds Review Team with a Preview of her new piece, a charming, romantic and utterly sensual story of love, lust, and danger in a world where Vampires and Werewolves exist . Ms Mitchell is not new to this world , as this comes directly after release of the second book in her wonderful Dark of kNight series.

The Nightman is Adriel, dark, larger than life, manning the door at a local Club Tiffanys. It is here we see Caitlin coming to the club to meet Dorian the vampire. Through a series of flashbacks Ms Mitchell gives us an understanding into the backgrounds of the some major players and why we are here at this place and time.

The writing is paced very well, and you can "feel" Adriel and his wants and needs as you were he...Caitlan’s gentle soul is all he needs to tame his beast with-in. If they can just be rid of Dorian.

The Prologue and Epilogue(chapter 9) were a great touch...Love it!!!

Dorian has been a major player in Caitlan’s and Adriels histories and my one wish is to hope we might have gotton to know this tortured soul better...Or is Ms Mitchell saving him for another story later???

Looking foward to many more great reads from this author!!!!

In this enthralling and beautifully written short story, Ms. Mitchell pens a world so vivid and compelling, it catapults her talent into a whole new league. From its opening scene, The NightMan grabs hold of the reader and does not let go even after the last page is turned. It's the kind of tale you'll find yourself reading again and again. I truly fell in love with the story and its characters - Caitlin and Adriel simply stole my heart. What an excellent job dear Tracey! :-)

It's now very often that one comes across a sweet love story containing vampires, a werewolf and sex. But this story succeeds. For a short story I am actually rather impressed by how well fleshed out the characters are. The ending left a smile on my face however the epilogue seemed as though it was added on just to increase the word count.

This was a free book that I got from Amazon that was recommended by Alana. It was a short story but I loved the concept of it. I thought it was a great story and wished it would have been a little longer. I loved T.L.'s writing style and am reading another one by T.L. this very instant.
