This IS a rather dry read, but it is a textbook, so I was not expecting to be riveted to my seat. This book does a good job of explaining how and why bibliotherapy techniques can be beneficial in the clinical setting. Adding the story element to some of my sessions, I feel this was money well spent! If you are a clinician looking for some evidence-based therapy modes to try, I would definitely suggest this!

Lots of useful advice, but very dated and repetitious, almost to the point of being unreadable. It could benefit from tighter editing that would significantly decrease the page count but retain what is useful. In particular, lots of the exercises refer to very dated journal publications in psychology and other areas, rendering them not useful. The lead author was clearly a wonderful person and trailblazer in the area, but the structure as a memorial for her may be useful to those who knew her, but not as much to those who didn't and purchas the book to learn classical and contemporary best practices.

A high 3.5 Prior reviewers definitely weren't kidding with the dryness. It's basically a manualized treatment for bibliotherapy, or the closest thing to it, so that's what you're getting into going in. And you get what you get and you don't throw a fit!

A little dense but a great text for understanding biblio and poetry therapy.

An essential textbook for anyone getting started in Biblio/poetry therapy. A fair launching point that gives a solid foundation of the relationship between facilitator, participant, and material.
