It was pretty good! I was sort of disappointed with the whole story line though because I wanted her to be in love with the ghost not Seth, I was so sad when Sebastian disappeared. I don' know, but it just wasn't what I had wanted from it.
i really enjoyed this story. i loved the mc Brazil she was fiesty and funny. i thought that sebastians story ended too abruptly. i would have liked to see a little more of how his end was. overall i loved it.
I was searching Amazon for a bargain book for my Kindle & this had only 1 review, but it was a 5 star. So I thought for .99 cents, why not?? All I can say is WOW!! What a gem I found! What a great book. It's a young adult novel about love, loss & divorce. And all sorts of aspects that come with teenage life. It was well written with great characters that I'm sure other teens as well as adults can relate to. It also has a happy ending so don't fret for those of you like me that like happy endings. I highly recommend this book~!
Oh, I loved this! It had a great storyline, fun characters and a bit of a paranormal twist that didn't overwhelm the plot. I couldn't help but fall in love with sassy MC Brazil and I adored the scenes between her and her unwanted ghostly roommate, Sebastian. Part romantic and part sad, his back story was an interesting addition to the plot.
This is the second book I've had the pleasure of reading by Tess Oliver and I must say I'm really excited. She has fresh plot ideas and endearing characters and is definitely an author to watch for.
I am generally not a huge fan of paranormal romance, I like contemporary with romance and family drama. So this is a little out of my sweet spot, but I loved A Little Less Girl so much that I thought I'd try this one. And I am super glad I did, it's a wonderful book with great real feeling and talking characters. Oddly enough, for a ghost story, the story is very believable and down to earth. Which makes the fantastic elements all the more impactful. I'm definitely reading more Tess Oliver, these are great self pubs with good reading and emotional value.
Good story, I kinda felt it was rushed and ended way too abruptly. This is the second story I've read from Tess Oliver and I liked it well enough, but I could see myself loving her stories if they were fleshed out a bit more
Great book, great writing, but what happened to the ending??? It just plops, there is no sense if finality. What happens with Sebastian? With Seth? The ending took it from a clear 5 to a 4.
It was actually a really good book for me never have a read a paranormal romance... but the ending was terrible every happened sooo quickly at the end and then it just ended! ugh it annoyed me.
This was one of the first books I bought when I got my Nook. I remember reading an excerpt from the book and thinking it sounded really good. Based on that synopsis, I went into the book expecting one type of story, but discovering it was completely different.
Brazil (or Zilly) is a likeable protagonist. She’s got a grudge over her parents divorce and moving from home, leaving behind her horse and friends. When she gets to the new place, she’s surprised by a ghost named Sebastian. He’s still around because he needs to know if the girl he loved, Emily, truly loved him back. He wants Brazil to find this out for him. It’s not as easy as she could have expected because it involves befriending a not so great guy at school, Hank.
The actually great guy at school, Seth, is unavailable. He still seems as interested in Brazil as she is in him. And it seems that his current relationship is on the rocks. When she has to act chummy with Hank, it makes her look bad to Seth. But she needs to find out if Emily loved Sebastian. It still hurts, because something special is there with Seth.
She gets a local job at the stables, and that seems to improve her overall mood. She learns more about what really happened in her family. Bits and pieces start to come together when it comes to Emily as well. By the time you reach the end, the truth is all exposed and everything comes together.
Safe Landing was a cute story. It wasn’t spectacular, but it was enjoyable. It had a certain charm because of its uniqueness--paranormal that doesn’t involve a girl falling for the paranormal being. And I liked that. The friendship that Brazil develops with Sebastian was endearing, even though it wasn’t the love story as I thought it would be. I will probably be picking up another Tess Oliver book sometime.
I love a good mystery especially when it includes the supernatural. What better mix? That is why "Safe Landing" is such a hit for me. Brazil Parkin has had to overcome many problems of late including her parent's divorce, the selling of her horse, Carrington, and moving to a small lake community leaving her friends behind. She blames her mother for not fighting hard enough to keep her Dad instead of the sweet young thing he is currently dating.
Upon moving to the town of Pelican Bay, Brazil or Zilly immediately senses a spiritual presence in her new home, the house the locals call haunted. Soon, she finds letters written by a teenage boy from 1880 who once lived in the house. He makes his presence known and asks for Zilly's assistance in discovering why the girl he loved never responded to any of his letters. As a matter of fact, they were returned unopened to him.
Brazil has a lot on her plate. Not only is she trying to fit in at a new school, handle her anger towards her mother, she also discovers that her best friend since third grade has recently started dating her ex-boyfriend and did not even have the decency to tell her. Boy, isn't Facebook great? Soon, thing will begin to make sense as Zilly discovers that good old Dad was having an affair before while he was married and her mother is suffering in silence. She also begins investigating Sebastian's lost love all while trying to come to gripes with her feelings for Seth, a cute boy at school.
This is a great story about how a girl manages to move beyond self absorbsion while trying to help others only to discover that she helps herself as well. If I had one criticism it would be that the story ended a little too soon for me. I wanted to know what happened to Sebastian in the end. Did he ever move on? Take my advice, this a great story and just the perfect read for those who like ghosts and mysteries.
Back-Story: I had just bought a Nook HD and saw that this book was only 99 cents, so I went ahead and bought it. Usually I read the sample of the book first, but the description talked about a ghost living in the Brazils room and being a huge fan of Meg Cabot’s Mediator series I went ahead and bought the book.
Review: I was a little let down about this book. There was a lot of cussing and name calling that I didn’t care for. The ghost isn’t in the book all that much and he doesn’t end up as a main person like I thought he would be. The book is very long which I thought would be a good thing, but the book just kept dragging on and I was just wanting to finish it to get it over with.
Looks: The cover on Goodreads is different than the cover from the Nook. I like the Nook cover better (it’s a girl in a swimsuit on the beach), but it doesn’t look like a very professional cover. It looks more like someone took a picture and used an app from their phone to put the tittle on.
Content: A lot of cussing and Brazil puts herself in a dangerous situation with a guy that doesn’t have a good reputation.
Likes: The ghost and his story of way he’s still lingering on earth.(I just wish there was more focus on his story).
Dislikes: The language, the ghost doesn’t get as much attention as I thought he should have.
Overall: This book was cheap and long which I liked, but the book overall was disappointing. I’m glad I only spent a dollar on it and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you can’t find anything new to read and just want to kill some time.
Safe Landing was not a bad book, but I don't feel it was a great book, to me it was average. Nothing special but something I will probably forget down the road. I liked Brazil, she was a good character that had flaws and accepted and tried to grow from them.
Brazil meets Sebastian, the ghost who lives in her house and only bothers her. He is stuck in limbo wanting to know if his long lost love Emily truly loved him before she left. I liked Brazil and Sebastian's banter, it brought her perspective and it was nice hearing about an attractive boy. And then there is Seth, the town hottie, who unfortunately has a girlfriend. However there is an immediate connection between the two. I liked the play out of the story but I felt there was so much that could have happened but it all felt rushed to me. The book is very short and tells the story, but to me its with limited detail that I felt could have been added.
This book was a pleasant surprise. The MC, Brazil was a very strong character who's not afraid to speak her mind. She was a little stuck-up in the beginning but I'm chalking that up to being a teenager. Her character's really funny too and I loved the whole deadpan humor. My one gripe with this was the fact that Sebastian's story (I really liked him) ended too abruptly.
Also, what is up with the covers?! The first one has a girl in a long flowy dress, with flowy hair, leading a horse, all dreamy-like and my first reaction was: mediocre historical romance novel and then crappy romance novel. The edition I have looks more YA although a blue bikini would've been more fitting. The covers made me realize there was a lot going on in the story - family, the beach, starting over, boys, horses and a ghost but it all made sense. They seem to have had a problem with what to focus on when they made the covers though.
This book was a fun, quick and easy read. I liked Brazil's character for the most part because she always had a nice pinch of sarcasm and wit to her conversations. Though at the same time, she did whine a bit too much at times. I feel like the story was more about Brazil somewhat finding herself and coming to terms with her new life, than it being a paranormal romance. I say this because there wasn't much of a love story between Sebastian, the ghost, and her. Their relationship was more about friendship. I absolutely loved Sebastian and really felt for him. He made me want to read an old 1800's love story because I loved the way he spoke. I wish people still spoke with such emotion. The only real complaints I have for this book is that the love story could've been more developed and the stories needed more closure. I felt the ending to be a bit rushed. Overall though, Oliver wrote great characters with great appeal for the reader and created a world I'd love to live in.
I really enjoyed this book. Up until the end I was thinking it was definitely my favorite from this author. Then it ended and...well I was left feeling like there should have been more, or better or something. I just was disappointed. I loved Brazil and her interactions with everyone made me laugh and she was such a great character. The first day of school when she speaks to Seth I just loved it! I loved the conversations in the book, and really I was set to give it more stars but the ending was just lacking. For how amazing I thought the rest of the book was it was really a disappointment. Oh well I would still recommend reading it. The ending wasn't the worst I just felt it could have been much better.
I was really excited about this novel. Mainly because I really enjoyed Tess Oliver's other book, Camille. Unfortunately, Safe Landing didn't read nearly as well as I remember the writing from Camille. The characters seemed a tad forced, the conflict resolved fairly anti-climatically and there were a lot of extraneous details that never really incorporated well with the story line.
Tess Oliver shows promise. Unfortunately, in this book, she also showed quite a bit of immaturity in writing skill.
This had such potential.... I loved this story, a family going through divorce moves to an old house supposedly haunted. News for you, it is... Love stories like this! Sebastian is the said ghost who died in 1880 but the events surrounding his death are a mystery to him, all he remembers is his Emily. Brazil (yes that's really the characters name!) can see Sebastian, and vows to help him discover what happened.
See sounds good right! Unfortunately Sebastian just leaves, no idea if he found peace, just gone
I really liked this book. I loved the whole concept. Some parts were a little predictable but that doesn't take away from the plot. I only had one problem with it, though. I feel like a major part of the plot was not wrapped up in the way I wanted it too. I don't want to put any spoilers in this review so I won't elaborate any further.
This book has a lot to offer: romance, mystery, suspense. And for .99 I think it's well worth it!
I really did enjoy this book and it was worth the 99 cents i payed for it....... Im glad Brazil ended up with Seth and that Emily really loved Sebastian.... ANd I think that Sebastian really did like Brazil as in boyfriend girlfriend thing if only he were still alive
Tess never disappoints me and I am soon going to post the interview with her and I have a signed copy coming in.... So I cant wiat
i would have so rated this 5 stars if author would have given this book an ending! i understand authors want to leave things open if they plan on writing sequels but a true reader who enjoys the writing will buy a sequel anyways! i really enjoyed this book but may not read any more from this author again...i dont want another disapointment.
I was looking for a nice, light read and that is exactly what I got with Safe Landing. I thought the story was so cute and I loved the female main character. She was so witty and sarcastic and totally knew how to stand up for herself. I also enjoyed the slight paranormal aspect with Sebastian the friendly, heartbroken ghost! He was different and very funny.
I bought these for my vacation on my kindle and they were the right price for a quick teen read. And they are very teen. A little silly and over the top, but the writing was ok and I did want to finish it to see what happened. I wish the swear words would have been left out tho. A handful of F words thrown in for color.
Great book with a paranormal twist not really written about as of late. I thought Brazil, the main character, was a little self-indulgent brat at first, but she did get better. She reminded me a bit of the attitude I had at that age when my parents had divorced. Sebastian's story did wrap up a bit abruptly. Sthis book was a heat surprise for $0.99 at Barnes and noble.
The only reason that I give this book a four instead of a full five is because of the ending. I had so many more expectations for Sebastian and Brazil for some reason. I expected things with Seth to be a little more progressed than they were. Other than that, I really did enjoy the book, lol. I will have to get more into the author.

Pleasant, quick read. Nothing Earth-shattering. And it never really peaked for me. I think this author writes enjoyable stories with likable characters, but she has trouble reaching a real climax in her stories. But it was a nice way to pass an afternoon and I think others would enjoy as well.
I really liked the book. I just wish there had been a better ending between her and the ghost. Sebastian should have had a more important role in the book in my opinion. But overall this sappy romantic was definitely good :)
its a ghost book, but i found myself drawn to Tess Oliver, because she does fantasy the way i love it, which is: A big menacing over hanging plot line involving this girl and this guy who beyond all odds fall in love and through hardship find their happy ending, its great i love it
