Miss Pickerell gets involved in an archeological dig that becomes a lot larger than anyone expects when Indian artifacts are discovered on land that is slated for a new building site in just days.

I have absolutely no idea how to classify these books. They were sold to children, but Miss Pickerell is the Jessica Fletcher of the day, a busybody into everything - but with connections to go anywhere and do anything seemingly. She lives a quite full life, this book case in point, and is eccentric enough to think she can manage anything - and usually does.

In typical Miss Pickerell style, this dig becomes a fairly big deal very fast (and in today's terms would have shut down the building project completely). Fast paced and fun to read, I'm still not sure who the audience was. But I for one, enjoyed reading it.

When a highway construction project turns up Indian artifacts, Miss Pickerell gets involved in order to stop the construction from damaging the site further.

Before Miss Frizzle on the Magic School bus, there was Miss Pickerell. The story features the eccentric lady herself alongside a cast of equally quirky characters. Some of the information is obviously outdated, some of it is a bit “teachy”, but overall a fun, quick read about the ins and outs of an archaeological dig.
