John J. Nance is an American pilot, aviation safety expert, and author. He served in the USAF during the Vietnam War and also as a Lt. Colonel in Operation Desert Storm.
Recently discovered this author by getting one of his books on kindle unlimited have now bought 3 more every one just as exciting as the last will be purchasing more. I would definitely recommend this author you never guess what’s going to happen next so keeps your interest long may he go on writing I will be keeping a lookout for any new ones, it’s been a while since I discovered such brilliant writing.
I'll be honest. I'm into techno-thrillers and read a lot of Clancy before he just started mailing in his efforts, Brown, Cussler, and others.
I only read this book because there's a C-141 on the cover and it's mentioned a few times in the story. I was a flight engineer on that airframe for several years so I was interested in that aspect of the plot.
The story was good, packed with action. However, I am not sure if it was the writing or the narrator of the audiobook, but I found it hard to get into at first. The action scenes also were not as exciting as the should have been considering the content. I was at first going to only give it 2 stars, but the end picked up so I upgraded it to 3 especially since it had me laughing out loud during the last action scene.
A wartime aviation novel by the procedure proflic writer of aviation novels. JJN has written a novel about the war in Iraq and the events that are being employed to offset the insane ranting of Saddam Hussein. The Iraqi leader has planned a massive air strike to disperse a virus which will kill millions. The plan is discovered and two Colonel Roy to the rescue. This is an excellent read for The genre.....DEHS
This was such great fun through the whole story that I couldn't put it down. I love the technical detail Mr Nance puts in for us aviation fans. It would probably not go over well with someone who doesn't fly. But I'm sure people who read his work know what they're getting into.
There's no big twist here or anything like that. Just great drama and suspense, and a fun military tale. Bravo!
I have now read every single one of John Nance’s books! Sadly! They are all great reads, and I have never read novels about Aircraft thrillers before. I loved all of them, and give high praise to the Author for these great reads! Highly recommend them! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Scorpion Strike is another in John Nance's line of strong thrillers. The action is intense and takes unpredicted turns. The details of authenticity are very good and contribute highly to my level of appreciation and enjoyment.
I have read most of this author’s books and enjoyed each one. This one was no different. Loaded with action and suspense, it was a book I found hard to put down to attend to necessary duties.
It was an interesting read but it was just too long with parts being played on for long periods of time that seemed repetitive. I got 60% of the book read and then just had to give up.
Had second thoughts when I started the book, it was kind of "How many times can you say 'C-141'?". However as the book went on, the plot got better and was quite good by the end.
A work of fiction - As the Gulf War draws to a close, word reaches the Coalition forces that Saddam Hussein's scientists have created a super biological weapon. This weapon is able to live not only in the air, but also in water. It has the ability to decimate a population within days - there is no cure or prevention available at this time... In order to protect humanity from the madness that grips Hussein in these final days of the war, a recovery mission is hastily put together to gather and destroy this biologic weapon. This mission is put together by Air Force Colonel Will Westerman. His plans for the mission are tragically changed by a crash of the necessary aircraft and the death / injury of her crew. Westerman must now fly this mission himself with a commandeered crew captained by his childhood friend, Air Force Reserve Colonel Doug Harris. Once the strike team reaches the secret lab and destroys the virus, the real 'fun' starts. The plane they are flying ends up crashing in the desert and the four member flight crew are presumed dead (Will, Doug, and two engineers). Fortunately, the flight crew are blown clear of the crashed airplane and survive. In order to avoid the Republican Guard forces and ultimate capture they must walk across the desert in hopes of finding the Saudi border and an American or Coalition base.
John J Nance has used his knowledge as a Air Force Reservist (activated during the Gulf War), and his extensive knowledge of aircraft and flying to make this a thrilling story. The writing seems to take you into the cockpit with the pilots and gives an understanding of what happens to keep a flight on track. This is well written and exciting. The scenario is believable...
A raid into post Desert Storm Iraq to secure a deadly chemical weapon by a Delta Force team. Problems arise of course. A pedestrian but readable story.
