Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.
Many submissions and rejections followed.
In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.
In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.
She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.
She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.
Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.
People really seem to love these books. And yes, they have really hot erotic sex, but this was just over the top for me. I was fine with all sex, but the sex while shifted thing was just too much... I'm just not quite sure what to do with that. For me, that is just too "sex with an animal"...no thank you.
I'm surprised I didn't find that mentioned anywhere in discussions of this series. Perhaps I’m the only one bothered by that. I am actually hesitant now to buy shape shifting erotica. I have started seeing warnings referring to this on book descriptions, which is nice, that is definitely something I would like to know ahead of time.
It’s been forever since I first read of Anton and Stefan! Such a different take on shifting and sexuality; a really unique voice and point of view.
This book focuses on the two main packs - Anton’s in Montana, and Ulrich’s in Colorado (although it should really be Keisha with Anton and Mille with Ulrich). The grasses Keisha planted in Golden Gate park to help future Chanku, let six people realize their heritage and find a semblance of living that embraces their full natures. And having acres of wilderness to run and play in doesn’t hurt.
The larger threat of discovery has been mitigated by the death of Milton Bosworth, but there are still the ones who followed his directives out there. The disregard for privacy and property are still a threat; given how easily Daciana Lupei infiltrated the sanctuary of Anton’s surroundings. So that knowledge is still problematic.
Just a word to the average reader, be prepared to step into a different shifter world. And, this series is so hot it should make an e-reader melt! I don't even know what abbreviations to use for the relationships in this series.
The Chanku are a lost race of shapeshifters. Slowly, the core group of Chanku is discovering other Chanku and helping them make the change to being a shapeshifter. While the books center around a couple, the rest of the pack are supporting characters.
In Kate Douglas' latest release in the Wolf Tales series, we learn about the lives of six young, new, Chanku. In the beginning of the book they are split up. Three of them go to stay with Ulrich and Millie in Colorado and the others stay with Anton Cheval and his pack in Montana. A chunk of the book takes place in Montana where there is still a fear that, after the attacks from book seven, all is not quite "right". When an intruder is discovered and identified, will the Chanku give the person time to explain the reasoning for spying on them, or will they just go ahead and kill them? In the meantime, in Colorado, who is really teaching whom more, the elders or the new youth? This book was a "growth book" for all intents and purposes, and a lot of lessons were learned by both old and new Chanku. I can't wait to see what Douglas will have in store for us with future releases in this faublous series. Highly recommended.
This one didn’t hold my attention like previous books in the series. I wasn’t really sure what the book was about. And the ending left me wondering even more. I own the rest of the series, so I will continue reading it. Plus, I like a lot of the characters, so there is that.
This book is divided into two parts. The first part I thought was a little slow, but maybe it was just me. I really enjoyed the second part. Great ending. Looking forward to the next installment!
In this chapter of the story we meet and learn all about Daci and her life. She comes to find out the truth about what happened to her father but is she really prepared to find out just who he was.
