Karyn Simmons and Malcolm Knight are destined for each other, or so their shared dreams of lovemaking tell them. But while Malcolm has no problem accepting fate, Karyn does. She's had far too much heartbreak in the past to just blindly trust a dream.
And she may be right not to...
Even though Malcolm sees her as his one true love, he is hiding a few things from her that threaten their chance at happiness. He is a vampire, and the brother of a deranged killer. Will Karyn reject him, or will her desire turn into love as well?
This is not your typical vampire romance. K Lynne Duvall's story turns these mythological beings from dark, savage monsters into creatures more human and real. The drama amongst all the characters keeps you engaged and wondering what will happen next. The passion will have you begging for more.
Parental discretion is advised: This book contains graphic description of sexual activity and violence.
Duvall has created an imaginative world and creative modifications to the vampire mythos with this steamy paranormal romance.
The story opens with a confused, stalking and murdering vampire trying to find "his" Julia who is enraged when the women he thinks are Julia turn out to be someone else.
Karyn, the female lead with serious trust issues, thinks she is being paranoid to keep a gun but women are being killed; women who look a little like her. In the midst of this, she has a dream lover — he seems so real and the things they do feel so real. When she meets her dream lover in the flesh she is astounded and inexplicably drawn to him. But she thinks love doesn't exist. She's had her heart trampled on once too many times — never again. She pushes him away.
Malcolm, the male lead, has been having erotic dreams about Karyn and "never realized he'd created a link with her". Could she be his "own true lalid", his mate? He's able to project into her mind and make her feel as if he is touching her, caressing her, making love to her even when he's standing across the room from her.
Marcus, twin of Malcolm, is in the final stage of a deadly disease, ARS, and has lost his mind and run away. Malcolm is horrified to learn Marcus has become the "Sparkman Stalker" and can now see Malcolm's dreams again. Malcolm must stop Marcus.
Both twins had loved Julia but she had betrayed the love of her fiancé, Malcolm, and now Marcus, her true mate, in his sickness is obsessed with finding the long dead Julia.
This is a good story which I read in one sitting. I look forward to reading Duvall's next book. I think paranormal romance and vampire fans will like this story.
Warning Spoiler Alert!!! This has a HEA ending for Karyn and Malcolm.
first of all whoever edited this book should be shot in the face. second the author had some creative ideas but lacked the skills necessary to make them a book. bonus point for a new take on vampire origin myth but otherwise awful. the sex scenes ranged from unbelievable (really who uses the word snatch) to grotesquely awful (outside of the adult film industry who has used a soda bottle as a sex object). unless you like tragically awful writin do yourself a favor and avoid this one!
It was nice and short. Some details in the book (like the children part) still remained unexplained and I thought Ronnie and Alistair would have their own book, but maybe not.
When began reading this book, it felt like I missed either a few chapters or I had missed reading a previous book that would have given me more context to the story line. Checked and seemed like this was the authors first book in this 2 book series. 🤔🤔
When I was reading, i had to figure out who and what Malcolm and Marcus (and Veronique) were. The language (probably made up) that the author suddenly used with no translation as to what the dialogue means. And trying to read this made up language within the sentence became annoying with no meaning.🤔😒
Malcolm's constant and persistent mental / psychic violation of Karyn came across like "rape." He continuously forced himself (psychically) on her even though her says he means her no harm and just wants them to be together after dream sharing. So he (again mentally) violates her on the job and demands she give into their link.
The transition from Malcolm and Karyn's interactions to his then scenes with his sister Veronique is very choppy and disjointed... It will have you wondering how you got there when reading. The author doesn't make it a some read. 😒
The short back story of Malcolm's origin is cobweb thin that I was like "Huh!... is that it?" Then the revelation of who and what Malcolm is (with some mental persuasion) and his search for Marcus was just accepted after a few days of the silent treatment at being lied too, with another flimsy backstory of how Marcus progressed into his madness at some acronym disease (A.R.S, again NO context!!!). All which led to reunion / forgiveness sex at work (on her desk in her classroom, with a storm raging outside) 🤔😕
So glad when reached then end and I will NOT be buying the next book in the series. Veronique and Alisiter can keep their story if it's weak like this one... Don't and won't recommend. 2*

I had my moments reading this, the storyline was very interesting. However, I am willing to read another one of her books. I learn, through my own experience that it takes time to develop and be educated as an author. My first two books were in need of professional editing, so I am willing to give K. Lynne Duvall another go round with her second book.
This book was a nice spin on Vampire romance. I liked the language and the absence of the stereotypical vampire. The story was good, though there were a few grammatical errors. It was still an easy story to follow. Now then, Veronique and Alistair?!?!
This book has a different take on vampires as they are basically from another world and don't actually feed on blood per say. The storyline is that Marcus is very ill (as in homicidal-ly) and is looking for his girlfriend, Julia. His twin brother, Malcolm, is trying to win the heart of a very suspicious with trust issues, Karyn. They also have a sister called Ronnie/Veronique who is a prize bitch. Now you know the basics so let chaos commence.
I enjoyed this novella as it was certainly hot but it still had a story. The only difficulty I had was speaking the vampire language but I ended up skipping over that to the translation that was usually given anyway.
A bit confused because I have read two reviews on two different sites that give different names so I'm not sure if the names in the book have changed or if the reviews have been put in the wrong place.
So.. not a bad book. Some definite issues, but overall an okay way to pass the time.
Pros:
I love the world she created. The story was interesting. I liked the characters and I really liked her language that she made up for the vampires.
Cons:
The random kids that never got explained.. did I miss something? I assume they were their kids, but there was nothing tying that all together.
Alistair and Ronnie.. wtf? Was he just a dick? Like, I don't understand the point of that part of the story. Flesh that out, or take it completely out.
Typos/grammar. Definitely need an editor.
Flesh Ronnie out more. Why was she such a bitch? Did they ever reunite as a family? Quite a bit of unanswered questions, IMO.

I didn't expect to like this story as much as I did... I'm not normally a paranormal romance reader. I downloaded this from Amazon because it was free and the reviews seemed to be good. I was able to make it though the book, despite the poor editing and my ambivalence to the genre. It was actually enjoyable, I don't mean that to sound as condescending as it does, it just surprised me is all. Typically the paranormal romance can't hold my attention.
Pros: Unique paranormal elements Decent plot pace Decently hot sex
Cons: Editing A little predictable at times, but not too bad
I'd recommend that the author flesh out the story a bit more if there is a future re-write, and obviously find a decent editor.
I never thought that I would like stories of vampires but my prejudice against them is disappearing as I read exceptionally good stories like Awakened Desires. Malcolm was one sexy man/vampire and such a good lover, even in her dreams, as she becomes his Lalid. The use of the vampire language added to the story and the twist at the end helped make it such an enjoyable book for me. If all vamfir are like Malcolm, I will be reading more stories about them in the future. The character development, story conflicts and the love scenes were written to describe the details to make them seem real for the reader. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to other paranormal story lovers.
I am soooo jealous of the dreams Karyn has. They are hot and heavy and then she learns that the guy is real...as in all muscle and man!!! My dreams are weird and go in many different directions that I have no idea how I function as a semi-normal person if my mind is that crazy. Anyways back to to book. It was a good story for being only 240 pages. Not enough to get me completely lost but interesting none the less. More back story would help about Malcolm and where he comes from would be a nice interesting addition however. I wish I could say more but it just might give something away.
The beginning was slightly intriguing with the dream like state turned nightmare. As for Karyn's sexual dreams, I thought that they were slightly interesting. I just found a lot of parts to be very lacking or poorly written. Lots of part could have been written better or had a better flow. I just thought that some parts would jump around and not have a good transition. I also hated when they spoke in their own language. I also disliked how it didn't translate the meaning of his nickname for Karyn.
This story started out with Julia running from someone, and a man being killed. Then enter Karyn, she is watching the news on the tv and feeling paranoid, that when she sees her lover standing there and start having sex..... no that all a dream.
Very well written, I couple times I had to go back and re-read the sentence because the writer confused the brother. Keeps you wanting to keep reading all the way the way through without stopping.
I didn't love it, but it was a good book. I don't know if maybe there are other books that came before this one, but I could have used a bit more background. After the characters were figured out, though, their stories played out well and I was able to enjoy the book.
I enjoyed this book not one of the best I have read, however, I liked the characters I though Brook with her potty mouth was fab...I read this and the sequel in a day and a half.. I would recommend it as an easy read/
I found this rather odd. that's all!! it just didn't grab me! a twist to the vampire thing, from the book you get that they are not of this planet but no explanations as to where they came from or why.
Finally a paranormal romance with characters that look like me!
This was awesome! Great twist of the tale of Vampires. Finally brown characters! I love when I find books in the genres I love that feature characters that look like me and I can relate to. Great job 👍👌🙏
I love the way that the book kept you guessing, especially with marcus , I'm glad that malcolm decided to not give up on karyn and to finally come out and tell her that he was a vampire.
