Hoping to keep his affair with a beautiful journalist secret while he campaigns for the presidency, Senator Jim O'Connor finds things becoming complicated when his mistress is murdered and he is named the prime suspect. Reprint.
I don't know why this was such a tough book for me to get into, but I am glad I stuck with it. It was a good read. I am guessing all the other books I have been reading were by my usual authors and this one just kept getting a backseat; plus not many road trips. So, I just wanted to clarify my reasons for not reading it in a timely manner. I never forgot what had happened in the time that I was not reading this book.
I don't know if it is his first novel but the one thing that bothered me was his way of going into the past. It loses its flow. I like the story line. Not sure if I would read another one of his books.
This book will long remain in my memory--as the worst book I have ever read! It opens with "the senator" finding the murdered body of his mistress and goes....NOWHERE! Certainly a book that should be rated with MINUS STARS.
This has been in My Digital Library since I downloaded it in January 2015. I enjoyed the twists and turns as a murder adds suspense to an election campaign.
I have been wanting to read a good mystery for awhile so when I saw Senator on Free Friday on my Nook I decided to give it a try.
Everything started out with a bang, the popular Senator Jim O'Connor finds a dead reporter in her apartment. Things quickly fall apart for Jim as it appears more and more that Jim is the killer. The beginning pulled me in but the story line quickly moved to a bunch of fluff and got super slow. If not for the fact I wanted to know who the murderer was I would have stopped reading at around the half way point.
Sad to say I am still on the hunt for a good mystery.
This book gives a detailed look at the daily life of a politician forced to deal with a threat to the success of his campaign. How to deal with the possible revelation of secrets from the past, defend himself from a murder charge, win the election and save his marriage? Not as seedy as it sounds, it does raise some moral questions of right and wrong in the age of situational ethics.I found the character of his daughter to be very interesting.
When married Senator James O'Connor is in the middle of a reelection campaign the unthinkable happens - his lover is murdered, his wife is having an affair, his staff is questioning is innocence, the district attorney dislikes him AND his brother is a loser who once sold guns to the IRA. In his mind, closet skeletons aren't just rattling, they are dancing in the street. The quest to find the true killer is a painful journey that he eventually finishes.
The story of Jim O'Connor's reelection campaign is fraught with more than just political drama. The murder of his lover/biographer starts the book down a crooked path of lies, deceit and family crisis. Because it is written in first person, the story drug along a bit, but all in all, it was a good book.
A very exciting mystery and real page turner! I couldn't wait to get to the next page. Lots of twists and turns which kept you guessing and wanting more. Can't wait to read another book by this author.
The was a quick read and a good "who done it". However, I found the ending was just too long. Every time I thought all was answered, there'd be another chapter addressing something I didn't know needed addressing. Overall enjoyable read.
Somehow with the main character we wander and wonder. We become immersed with him, his family, staff. But while the author looks for the murderer, it becomes lost in the characters. And it is difficult to tell if this is how it should be or not.
This is a book that keeps you turning pages long after normal lights out. Plenty of false leads to keep you guessing. The teasers look like the standard is being maintained.
A US Senator is running for re-election. A woman is murdered and the Senator is a suspect. There are villains and many people with ulterior motives. Politics as usual. A terrific read.
I thought it well written. It made you wonder how it was going to end and once you reached the ending what you would do if you were in the same situation.
Very good! Finished this one in about 5 days. A good mix of politics, murder, deceit, etc. I didn't have it figured out before the ending which is always nice.
